Today. Today I learned a very important new lesson about relationships. When the raven calls your husband a foul name, you apologize. When the feathery toddler lands on the taxidermy specimen of the sailfish and shits on it - and the bottles of rum beneath it - you take ownership. You also make journal entries about it. And you promise to learn how to train birds. Accidents happens, Cheese.

The life she's led would have left me for dead years ago and in five minutes of conversation it's clear there's yet much she intends to achieve. Truly she's a breathtaking example of what a person such as myself can strive for... though I'll have to find other routes. Those she's taken would be impossible for me to follow in kind.

Lady Monique Greenmarch asks, "What would you like to know about?"
I'll send a list, once I'm finished with my book for the book contest. It's really quite spectacular, although I'm afraid it might not be as anonymous as she might hope.

When it comes to accepting compliments, he is as slippery as the silk he wears. But such grace! Such warmth and compassion, and I've not yet met anyone who can match him for the care and consideration he shows others. Would that I can be so serenely contained and yet so available to the needs of others; if I ever manage it, I'll have achieved more than I'm presently worthy of in life.

I took Mongoose on a walk today around the city. I made two dozen or so small blankets that I thought would be good to donate to the orphanage, so the dog joined me on a trip to the Lowers. We stayed for a bit after, there were a few children playing outside that wanted to pet Mongoose, and it's impossible to say no to several pair of large eyes blinking up at you at once. Mongoose was a good girl for the kids and they seemed to appreciate my training her to fart on command. The two of us had them laughing for a good long while. It made it hard to go.
I think Mongoose and I'll make it a habit of going down there more often.

I fear this is the sort of tale that doesn't translate properly through written dry reports. I think I should best give it to you in person. I shall spare the poor readers of the whites from the more graphical details of the event. Suffice it to say it was another very busy night at the clinic.

Dare I ask what had transpired or shall I wait for my daily report? I heard there was another incident. I have written to the Minister of Civil Development, but I am penning a proclamation currently.

Not your fault, I could well understand you weren't aiming at me, besides I don't know many who have excellent aim with a bucket when feverish. If anything I blame the ones who were irritating you enough to throw buckets in the first place.

Earlier in the week, Mistress Mirari Corsetina made an announcement about the future of the Mirrorguard, in which she opened membership up to the rest of the Compact. I am honored to not only be among the first non-Lycenes to be offered a place within that elite order, but to be among the Voices of my fellow Sword. Knowing how important this organization is to the Archduchess and Archduke-Consort, I could not be more pleased to offer my talents to them, given their longstanding friendship to the Mourning Isles.

I have worked with the physicians guild now for a while but this mess happening in the lowers has taken more of my attention recently. Having been there from the start I worked with the first victims of this illness, and for all their violence they truly are victims. I have seen good friends succumb to it's feverish heat, and I worry. The attacks becoming more frequent, the almost planned manner to spread this as far as possible. I only hope we can find the source soon.
Also, note to self: never allow buckets of material near irate sick people if you don't wish to end up wearing the contents. There are some memories I could be pleased to do without.

I have come to realize that there are far too few hours in any given day and the things that need doing multiply with reckless abandon. All I can really say is thank goodness for fantastic helpers and hobbies, truly they both are worth their weight in <insert material you find most precious here>.

I had a wardrobe built and sent to Tyde Tower, since I'll be moving there soon anyway. It felt very strange. I know I haven't lived at Keaton Hall for more than a few months, but I'll miss it. I'll miss Kael and Reigna sitting by the hearth and our late night discussions, I'll miss Aeryn, Talis and Kata, dear Aunt Margerie, my long lost brother, my wonderful cousins, I'll even miss Veronica's snoring (but only a little), the Laurents and Moores, and Marie's cooking, I'll definitely miss that. I'll miss everyone, even if I'm not far away. I'll always be grateful for all the kindness and I'll be leaving with a great trove of fond memories from my time with them.

Sir Jordan Ober may just be among the city of Arx's best unknowing match-makers. He mentioned that he thought Prince Lorenzo and I might have some things in common and should meet up. It was an in-passing remark at an event several months ago, which he also apparently noted to Prince Lorenzo at some other time. It seemed to us that the least we should do was meet, which we decided to do at the Jayus gallery one afternoon. He inspired me to paint him something after that meeting and while perhaps dreadfully cliche to note? Has perhaps simply inspired me since. I doubt at the time either of us thought it would lead here, but it has and I could not be happier. My sincerest thanks, Sir Jordan, for the suggestion. I think we are both immeasurably grateful.

Know that one thousand and nine years have passed since the Reckoning. Today is the twenty-sixth day of the fourth month. I am writing from the city of Arx in The Bakery in the Ward of the Compact. I am Candace Corvo, proprietor of The Bakery, and this is my white journal.
It seems I am not the only one who has developed a taste for sweets now that the weather has turned fair. Apricots and strawberries are already beginning to appear favourable at the market, so perhaps pies are in order before long. I also have a surefit of preserved cherries and jams, so perhaps a cobbler? There are so many options.
At any rate, I will have to follow up with Leon, the butcher, for more of those savoury sausages. I am quite sure he appreciates the custom, and I appreciate spending a little time with him.
Someone asked me today why I charge so much for a cake. While they came in, a caravaner stopped by to lay in a larder order for an overland trip due north. I indicated that they, the questioning party, ought to listen in with discretion. For a party of sixteen, including ten soldiers who would be guarding the train with their lives day in and day out for twelve weeks, I was able to supply their needs for eight hundred silver. That is fifty silver per person for the entire trip. Half a silver a day, thereabouts. They will have hardtack, hearty journeyloaves, and cookies enough for their trip.
For a cake that cost five thousand silver, quite literally years of wages for most commoners, I will spend days testing and perfecting ingredients. Testing the recipe. I will bake that cake five times over to make sure that it is the best cake that I am capable of making. I will spend no less effort for that caravan, and having been a caravaner myself, there may be a bit extra in their order.
When the order was laid in and the date delivered, the caravaner thanked me and left, and I returned my attention to the young scholar who asked the question about the cake. He looked thoughtful, but he was still upon the precipice, not quite ready to arrive at his conclusion without one last prompt from me.
So, I asked him this question, "What is the difference between art and craft?"

Proud of you, even if my interpretation of your sermon is the furthest thing from what you actually meant.
Still there is a great deal to think about, and the fact that I see everything in thirteens these days is something to be explored.
