I know this will be news to no one, but one should never underestimate a fighter from the Green Wood. They are swift and deadly, and even with a shield and spear to give myself breathing room, I could not keep the man from striking like a coiled serpent and escaping my reach in one swift motion. Relationship Note on Alessandro
My first official Mirrormask sermon was a fascinating experience, especially after spending so much time in the Shrine of the Thirteenth just recently. What better way than to be introduced to it by my patron? I have of course heard some of the ideas and concepts in more private conversations with him, but apparently if you give Lord Alessandro enough time to think about a subject he will leave a very lasting impression in his wake.

I am compelled to write despite myself. This will be brief. When I came to Arx it was Winter and a cold followed me from the west. I had nothing. In this Spring breeze much has changed.
The Dead Crows are nearly all gone.
Word reaches me that Lieutenant Dvorak is dead. Hanged from the neck for desertion. Never saw him quit before. Though I consider something he once said to me, both of us seated at the campfire. Stars behind the smoke, some falling, cast to dust and nothingness.
"There is sanctity in blood and in the spilling of it," Dvorak spoke strangely at times and there was rumor that he had once been in a Scholar, disgraced. We Crows were all of us disgraced in some way. I do not like that kind of highfalutin talk but he had me at a disadvantage--for I was very drunk on whisky.
"There is sanctity in games, too. War above them all. For the price you must pay, again and again, is blood. I will always, gladly, pay that price." His voice became melancholic and desperate, I felt sorry for him and I could not see his face well behind the shadows when he said, "For I have no doubt in the value of my life, which is what you learn when you fight and you kill; the value of your life. Is it worth anything at all?"
I guess the philosopher found that he could not pay it this time.

I was so happy to hear of my brother's betrothal to Princess Gwenna Redrain. The uniting of houses is always something to celebrate, and on a personal note, it makes me happy to see the both of you so happy together. I look forward to many visits and back and forth between the wards.

I am sure we will manage to get everything done in time for the wedding and I have even already received a couple of messages from some of my dearest friends offering help. The best thing about a July wedding is that it is the same month as my birthday, though I already have the best gift any woman could possibly hope for.

My courtship with Princess Gwenna is official now. We've been looking forward to it and talking about it for months, but now that it is actually happening, all I can see is all the work that has to get done for it. At least a July wedding will be plenty warm. And I'll have three months to get used to the idea of my name changing to Lorenzo Redrain.
I want to also thank Sir Jordan Ober for his serendipitous matchmaking. I haven't the slightest idea how he managed it, but somehow he knew, without knowing either of us that well, that Gwenna and I would be perfect together.

The Archlector has always been an especially a wise and guiding figure among Petrichor's faithful, and I'm happy to know her - and to enjoy her advice and leadership. It's wonderful to have her back from a very well-earned trip home, particularly at a time when the Lodge seems in peril. Just her presence makes the whole thing a fraction less worrying.
