Relationship Note on Oliver

I recently commissioned an outfit from Master Oliver Arterius. His work was phenomenal and I'm extremely pleased with what I received. He was also professional and much speedier than I anticipated. As promised, there was no overt bedazzling to my pants! I would surely recommend his work to anyone.

Relationship Note on Alis

You should have him tell you about the time Uncle Muiryn took all of the cousins out on a hunting trip, and bears got into all of the food supplies and the only thing they had left was whiskey.

But maybe don't tell him it was my idea.

It's more nerve-wracking than I'd previously anticipated. Suddenly being Sword of a place is pressure enough without having never even been there. I hope they'll take to me ..erm, to us. Should just put it out of mind until it's done. Stop all the fidgeting.

I really, really do hope they like us.

I have managed a copy of The Baron's Muse Part I by Storm Knight. While I don't often get time to just sit and get lost in a book, I will need to do so much more often. Already? I am hooked and will probably find myself pining for a Part II far too soon.

The highlight of my day, however, came in the form of the most thoughtful gift from someone I hardly deserve. A stunning silver birch leaf necklace with the darkest sapphire I think I have ever seen. It is like having a little piece of the night sky for my very own and I will probably never take it off.

Met Lord Redtyde today. It was a rather enjoyable and educational experience.

I look forward to knowing him better.

Were you trying to document that Aunt Esoka thought you were boring?

And she has a point. We're both lucky you got her! She gives better hugs.

We're not? Oh. I meant...we're not. Of course.

Relationship Note on Preston

Now that you mention it, you could use hobbies. I have advice.

Have you tried sketching? That was the hobby Calaudrin picked when he realized he was boring and needed them, and it's worked out well. Or you could take up the banjo. That's usually funny, even if someone is very bad at it.

You could also get a pet. Cats are popular now. And people say they're lucky, though I've always liked dogs better.

Don't worry, Sir Preston, I'm sure if the Templars put our minds to it, we can find you many hobbies.

There are some perks to not being grandmaster - no-one tries to make me have hobbies.

Thank you all for the suggestions of hobbies. While some involve far too many animals and while the Legate of Concepts tends to object to any hobby that might end up with me 'accidentally' wounding someone, there were several possibilities worth considering.

Child,

As you grow up, you are going to hear a lot of things about love. There are different kinds of it, each with its own quirks and various ways it should be approached. Familial love, love for friends, love for your home, romantic love, love of self...and I may be missing some. There will be people who try to tell you which of these is the most important, without consensus. Ask ten different people, and you might well get ten different answers. So I am not going to try to push my own opinion of that on you here. There is something much more important about love that you should know, and it is one thing they all have in common. Love is difficult. It will hurt you sometimes, and I can assure you that pain is unlike any other. However, the other thing that I can tell you for certain is that it is worth the pain, the difficulty, the frustration. All of it.

Relationship Note on Monique

It is a testament to the exceptional Lady Monique that every time I hear about an upcoming book, it is completely snatched up from the Gilded Page. Truly, she runs an amazing bookstore that is surely the must-visit stop of near everyone in the city. It seems near impossible to purchase a book at times - I've half a mind to camp out before the establishment! Though I jest. Still, The Baron's Muse Part I sounds so intriguing! I am envious of all those people who managed to fetch themselves one copy.

People trying to "fix" the lowers by throwing money and / or soldiers down from the sovereign bridge has been an occasional political foray since time immemorial. Every time a member of the Peerage dies down there it starts being noised about, as though no murders happen anywhere else and as though none of the existing social institutions or any of the past political forays or charitably intended vanity projects ever happened.

For the people who live and work down there, it is worth an eyeroll or a thrown tomato and little else.

Crime happens everywhere, in every fealty, in the Compact and out of it. Murders happen. Titles don't make you immune.

The Iron Guard once again did a service in cleaning and tending to the statue of Mangata after some fools defaced it. You have to wonder at why people would act in such a way? Still. The guard were on the case quickly, and I have posted a reward to help, and some of my Templars as there is an altar there which should not receive similar attention. The posting however is because it is a religious matter and thus it is our duty, not theirs, to protect the altar and the statue. It is not because I doubt their abilities.

In the recent Assembly of Peers, offers were made to help the Iron Guard because of recent high profile deaths. I understand these desires. But I would ask people to consider these things carefully. For an army in the thousands, the addition of 50 or even 100 more guards per fealty is not a huge impact. And, I fear, I must point out that people die. Regularly. Constantly. Wagons coming to the city will bear the bodies of Knights of Solace who have died on the road defending their charges, of pilgrims where sadly they did not make the Waystation, of men and women in various reasons. It is not because the Knights of Solace lack number or skill, it is because threats will eventually make it through. Eventually, something which will only win 1 time in 1000 will manage it. You can of course make it harder and harder for the opposition to succeed, but you can also reduce their chances to test their luck. Ask Dame Thena suggests, the Lowers are a place only to be entered with reason if you do not belong.

Relationship Note on Derovai

Foolsbane is toxic bile. It makes your eyes cross whether you want them to or not, and the subsequent misbehavior of your body can all be blamed on what that shite does to it. Your toes curl, your hair straightens, one eye -has- to squint while the other bulges out obscenely, just to swallow it down.

I had three shots of the awfulness and didn't throw up once. The look of respect from this man didn't dull the agony of my insides then, or later, or the next morning, but I do have the admiration of at least three large Northern men.

Everyone should try it at least once. Unless you're with child, and then save it for after the baby is born. I'd hate to think what it would do to a growing bairn. Probably come out with a full set of teeth and an ingrained resentment towards its mother.

In regards to Oathlands beverage preferences: In the Greenwood we've always preferred whiskey. Maybe I shouldn't be airing that since it makes us seem like a bunch of lushes running around in the woods, but there it is.
