Relationship Note on Branan

The Lycene Poet I have met a few times, mostly during his visits to the Grotto (which he seems to do quite regularly). He certainly has a way with words, but it is his colourful imagination that has impressed me the most. Even if being a scribe appears to be his calling, his painted art is lovely also.

Relationship Note on Aldwin

Though he was the first person I met properly when I returned to Arx, it has only been recently that I've spent more time speaking with Aldwin. The Archscholar is wonderful company, and as kind as he is wise. Now he has been convinced to spend more time away from his work I am more than happy to help see him relax away from the Academy and Shrines, a little more often at least.

Relationship Note on Selene

Radiant of the Whisper House. I could not think of a more apt description than that of her title; Radiant. I have only met the woman the once and it was a brief but inspiring introduction. I look forward to speaking to her more in future, and too for her to visit the Grotto.

Relationship Note on Sylvie

The first time that I met Lady Sylvie Zaffria, at least to my recollection, she accidentally forgot to return my cloak. An unfortunate event, of course. Much to my surprise Lady Sylvie went out of her way to commission a new cloak, lined with fur and made of fine silk. Receiving a gift from her in the form of a new cloak, far nicer than the simple wool thing that had been misplaced? That was quite an astonishing gift to receive. Apparently, from the corner of the eye and across a room, I remind her vaguely of her husband.

My training rates, to whom it may concern:

You're likely to fall on your sword = 2000 silver
You know how to hold your sword = 4000 silver
You can hurt me = 6000 silver
You can actually hold your own = 8000 silver
You beat me = 10000000 silver for wasting my time

Keep in mind I can only focus on one person per week - I can be a busy man - but anyone is free to drop by to watch and take notes.

I received the most amazing gift from a new acquaintance. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to give something quite so thoughtful to them in return.

After returning from some time away to check on the fleet I have found news in spades. My cousin and the heir to be is to marry a Grayson. There has been two Bringers killed and this is all occuring. Having learned the price of the Tenid I question why should we continue to pay it? After all these generations the knowledge of this was lost and it is a matter of time before it happens again. Why not face it instead of forcing some generations down the line to the slaughter? We know of it. We can bide our time, make a few rounds of sacrifice and then confront it. But some day it will fail. Why let it fail upon the world unprepared like we were? Why not learn this lesson and heed its tale? I'm am a man bent to action. I do not see the other side and admit I have a flawed view by nature.

The Nox'alfar are as different from us, as... well, let me be frank, they're not all that different. Certainly they have an ethereal beauty, and live for millenia, but they have personalities just like ours. They have structure of families and Houses, just like ours. And they have secrets, just like ours. I'm intrigued by them, but as I am of our own people. They are a part of our lost history, and worth studying... but they are not meant to be feared.

Relationship Note on Anze

Ah, what can I say about my sweet cousin-in-law? He is a true man of the North -- strong, fierce and wild in his way, and by all accounts a bit of a jester. Delicious.

Also to his credit, there is clever and good-natured warmth there that cannot be denied and always makes me feel at home.

I trust him completely, adore him entirely, and am proud to know him. Being in his presence fills me with the greatest of joy and I am pleased to find myself there often.

Though, perhaps he could do with just a ~little~ more southern refinement and flare. Tis a work in progress, but we'll get there. I have faith in him.

I've always like the Lady Regent. She's a sensible lass, and that seems so ridiculously unusual in a noblewoman. She doesn't have to pay me any heed, and, yet, she does, and in a way that's not the least bit bloody way patronizing.

She's doing well as regent, too. Even if it feels disloyal to Alaric to say. There are--a lot of things that feel a bit disloyal to Alaric these days. Right down to living.

And yet--

Well, I feel tremendously sorry for her, and I'm not sure why.

I probably shouldn't have said that. But it's in my white journal now and I can't take it back.

Like many others, I have learned so very much in recent weeks. This knowledge makes me at once wish I could forbid my kin from following their inborn nature in order to assure their safety, and to follow my own despite the inevitable danger of where it would lead me. How weary being this sort of hypocrite must have made my father.

Relationship Note on Aislin

For someone better suited to the wilds, she's certainly trying to trap herself in the city walls: first it was managing Ashford business, now administration of the Society of Explorers. She's said she's surprised by the outpouring of interest; I said I was surprised that she was surprised. There is such a will among so many to drive back the shadows. She's played no small part in bringing forth light, from gathering like minds to freely sharing knowledge. I am glad to call her friend.
