The Riven line breeds courage true in their offspring. I am not sure that I have the courage to shout 'No' at you, Marquessa.

Cascade Springs Mint-Chocolate Pudding! I do not believe anyone has ever sent me food before. I received a rubicund broadsword for a gift, but never food. I am writing this down in the journal, because these are things that people argue about when they are older. I want to proof when I am old man on the order of events. I gave you my Great Mug to hold in your house, then you sent me some pudding.

Relationship Note on Dycard

I feel like I should write something of this man; and yet, I find myself utterly dumbstruck.

I shouldn't be surprised - and yet, I am:

Utterly and completely dumbfounded.

I think there's a drinking contest I'm supposed to judge.

I would like to write here a name for the sake of posterity: La'viena.

She was brave and she was selfless. She sacrificed herself long, long ago, to give her people the gift of time -- time to escape chains that would bind them. Some were not so lucky, and lost their names to that foe. Because names are important, I write hers here again: La'viena, poet and hero.

In her name, I vow to do whatever I can to stand against slavery and to uphold liberty.

Unfortunately, I have no gift with weapons; whatever small talent I have is with the quill, and so I am putting together a collection of poetry, with the help of Lord Rysen Crovane, on the matter of liberty. I do hope all poets of the city will send me a work or two to include in the anthology. Proceeds will be donated to the Liberators of Skald, of course, to benefit former thralls and former slaves in remaking a life for themselves without chains or fetters. Anyone reading this is welcome to contact either of us with queries or submissions.

Relationship Note on Vanora

It was good to renew my connection to my niece. With the Oathlands continuing to strain beneath the pressures put upon it from within and without, our bonds of connection with our blood families become ever-more important. As my life continues toward its inevitable end, I would bring family close regardless of past quarrels. What is the point of building if there is no one there to benefit from my legacy? And so I commit myself to the work of maintaining and restoring bonds of fealty and birth as I committed to the work of rebuilding roads and walls.

I won a beautiful pair of stained glass windows from the Templars auction that Princess Alarissa put on, and while they are indeed lovely and a testament to the skill and craft of the artist, I am at a loss of where to install them. At first, I thought perhaps the Auction House, but no, that won't do. There is a theme in place there already, and while these windows would add an interesting element, it would be a discordant one. Such are my woes and worries these days, reduced to a pair of windows, that it makes me wonder if perhaps I have grown too soft, too fat, as of late off of my success within the city.

He wouldn't approve of this stillness, and I still cannot shake not living up to his standards of me. Such are the troubles of this gilt bird, nothing as big and earthshattering as the troubles speeding toward our shores.

One of the little quirks of the Eurusi language - ask me, dear reader in the future, how I know; of course, you will know already - is that it does not match the alphabet of the Compact precisely. I cannot tell whether they have developed their letters in a different way from our own, but some things are quite difficult to bring over.

An example will serve. There is a letter that was used in some regions of the Northlands and which matches the particular sound that we might render "th" as in "throw," "Think," and "there." This sound does not quite exist in many other languages, although the "th" letter did not become part of our standard script.

In Eurus, there are several regional groups - our equivalent of the Lycene, very loosely - whose names are quite crisply rendered... in Eurusi. At my current count there are seventeen mostly-accurate spellings of one, and a potential of ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN of the other. I will not attempt to render those here.

A reminder to all: eat well. This does not mean to eat in quantity nor to measure your consumption with a jeweler's precision. Food is fuel for our humors, and too little harms as readily as too much.

I have a new companion in the form of Daisy the pygmy goat. So far she has shown a talent for eating everything she possibly can.

I have watched her eat several weeds in the Shrine, Keski's lunch and the wig of a worshipper after an errant gust of wind blew it off his head.

I am thoroughly enjoying her company.

After an extended time away, I have finally returned to Arx. Hopefully, I will have a chance to reconnected with old friends, and the opportunity to make some new ones. It seems that Lydia has been busy, I was looking forward to seeing her, hopefully she will have time soon. And I need to hunt down that Uncle of mine, I have missed him dearly. It is unfortunate that Sigurd was not able to return to the city with me, hopefully soon he will do so. I always feel better surrounded by my family.

I'm not a fan of cheaters, those that purposely break rules so they can come out ahead. In the end you are only cheating yourself, and doing a disservice to your honor. Which makes one wonder, do they even have honor if they choose to purposely cheat to get ahead?

A few sayings my father taught me as a little girl about cheating:

“I would prefer even to fail with honor than to win by cheating.”

“You’re words mean nothing if your action shows differently.”

And of course. "Cheaters never prosper."

Having seen both Thea and Kaia return from their recent scouting they came across quite the disturbing sight it seems. But taking swift action with the others there, the party had to make a decision that would have been hard.

How utterly exciting to have the Pathfinder Lou Grayson as one's patron. Already Guido, the good courier of mine, has come back with a stack of papers higher than I sent him carrying. A path to adventure, at this stage in my life, awaits.

Say what you will about my family. We're a colorful lot to be sure. Cut from a hearty and wild woven cloth of many, many different threads. Bold and bright. Dangerous in a fight. There's a lot of heart and honor there, too. And more, if you take the time to really look or get to know us.

But most are too lazy or suspicious, sticking with old stories and sometimes downright lies. It's easier to believe what you hear, to swallow saucy gossip with your fancy wines rather than to question things that may lead to a much less scandalous truth.

But regardless, whether you believe the ill talk of us or not, one truth always stands. We care about our people, the Lowers, our realm and the little ones no matter on which side of the bridge they land.

Life is a bloody business at times. But kids? Don't mess with the kids. It makes Torian particularly annoyed. And that's not a good thing if you like breathing.
