Relationship Note on Rohran

It's always great to catch up with you, my good lord!

You should come around the shop sometime, share in on some of our fine wines and luxuries.
Indulge in the decadence of the south with us, yes?

Relationship Note on Martino

The Mirror Masquerade was amazing!
So many great costumes!

Such a great dancing partner!
I was glad to have gone with you my love.

Shame we couldn't stay longer.
I hear things got even more interesting after we left!

This winter has left me dwelling inside more than out. I should fix that by perhaps getting the Bear Scouts together for some snow games. I admit that I'm stealing this idea somewhat from Artur, but I'm sure he won't mind. At least not until it comes time for snowball fight practice. They'll need to work on their aim after all!

Relationship Note on Alaric

We become nameless when making love;
signatures scrawled in the tattoo
of dirt in the folds of your elbow
and the wrinkles of crow's feet around your eyes.

Your voice roughens as you tell me,
A woman like you will put her heart into her lover's hand
like the imprint of a shadow of a leaf on the forest floor.

Weightless? I ask.

Holding your body, you say, is like returning to the village
under papery skies
and gathering, along the road, a basketful of berries
that later my father will simmer into jam.

From the beginning, you wrote fables on my skin
in dirt and wrinkles,
and signed your name with the shadows of leaves.

Two entries thus far for the design of arms. It is interesting to see what some focus on, what they think that I desire. One, aims to give me back that which I have lost. Another, to give me choice and freedom. There are still many days and there are others who I know are working on something to submit. Functionality aside, I am looking forward to see what Jayus inspires in them. To see the art that can be produced, to wear. What people will think these pieces should look like.

I know not what this silence is, or who it is or really anything and at this point, I do not care. I can say, that I have never thought that I would make something to which people would quite literally die to protect, much less something that someone would send people after to steal.

My ribs are very unhappy and Brigida lifts her staff if I think of getting out of bed and gives me a look that she gives to wayward acolytes who are not following her instructions.

Although a minor note. The winters here are far more harsh than those at Artshall, Wish I had come better prepared for that.

Quite an interesting city. Many have been kind and welcoming. Not at all the worrisome place my mother described. Perhaps it will take time to see that side of things.

Everything is hard work, in it's own way. Being a guard was hard work, especially if I had to draw my weapon. When I was learning a trade that was hard work too, but different. Teaching was another kind of hard work, and now that I spend most of my time as an up and coming merchant, it turns out that's another kind of hard work as well.

At least I smell better at the end of the day.

Who could have predicted that I prefer tea to wine? Certainly not me. Everyone else hates this particular brew, so my hopes of opening a shop are nil, but perhaps I'll find a kindred spirit with a similar taste for swamp-leaf. Oh, wouldn't that be lovely.

It's better than it sounds, I swear.

Relationship Note on Gwendolen

The Hundred grow stronger with every new recruit. We look forward to Dame Gwendolen joining our ranks, continuing an unbroken chain from the time of the Reckoning.

While we stand.

Hosting a large event can be difficult, something that is both rewarding and stressful all at once. I decided since I did not get a chance to dance at the Mirror Ball between all my hosting responsibilities that I would at the next available social gathering. I did not have to wait long as the Grayson's opened their home a few days later. I took advantage of their dance floor, and kidnapped Marquis Hadrian Mazetti after he had unknowingly volunteered. It was beautiful, and I might have forgotten how much fun it is to dance. I will do it more often.

It was a good release to lead troops into battle again. They may not have been Southport soldiers but the men and women of Saik acquitted themselves well and proved themselves excellent to lead. Baroness Lucita should be proud.

Well fought in the Rite of Gloria. It was a short but brutal fight and I thank you for reminding me to keep my head in combat, least I drop my guard and get well and truly thrashed by you.

I nearly forgot to mention. Ryhalt told me Ciaran has arrived in Arx. That rogue! He didn't even tell his baby sister!

Well, I suppose there might be reason for that. Maybe.

But now I shall have to find him and give him a big hug. And scold him for not telling me he's here!

It is very easy, when one is a pragmatist above all else, to be lured into cynicism as well. But thank the gods that I have treasures beyond compare in dear friends who can lift my heart in its darkest musings with their seemingly irrepressible brightness, or the lightness of their being, or their stubborn pigheaded optimism that one can scarcely avoid being drawn into due to their charm. There are times I confess that I have oft wondered what sort of world this child will come into in just a very short time, but it seems the answer is much the same as any other time during the ages: an imperfect and dangerous one, made worthy by the love and beauty one finds in others around you.

The Rite of Gloria was a wonderful event to attend. It was a bit chilly, but the drinks and the honour shown warmed us all.

I really enjoyed the opportunity to chat with Ryhalt for a bit. I miss my big brother.

I missed two of the balls, but did make it to the Grayson ball. I shall have to come up with something fabulous to wear to the Fire and Ice ball, as well. It was lovely to see the King out and dancing once again, even if I arrived late and did not get to dance with him this time. Princess Liara throws a wonderfully good party.

I remember a Mirror Masquerade event Prince Talen hosted 4 or 5 years ago. Beyond almost fighting, Prince Talen and I spoke and he asked why I would not take part. I gave an answer then that being confident and happy in who I was, the reflection would only show this. That I had no need of doubt. Strangely though, that was the night we got over a desire to fight one another over what happened with Fawkuhl. Perhaps it was still a time of self reflection, even if I did not stare at a mirror.

It was certainly an honor watching all the competitors in the Rites of Gloria. From what I did I see. It was also an honor to tend to everyone.
