shy, lovely beside the carriageway.
My mistress gathers the stalks in her arms
like so many sheaves of daffodils
across her dark shoulder, green, gold.
I remember the alley beneath
my childhood window, rifted with sourgrass.
One by one I scraped their stems across my teeth
shivering with the delight of winter
along my tongue,
and with the dreamy expectation
of my master's carriage crushing them
beneath his heavy wheels.

Mistress Karina is a very talented artist. I am glad I was able to pick first among the paintings displayed before they sold out completely.
A fine addition to the Laurent Gallery.

It brought to attention something which might be keeping people from joining the Harlequins; though a major part of a Harlequins work is midwifery, councelling the bereaved and offering funeral services, there is room for much more. I mean, look at me - Second First Harlequin, one of the voices of the discipleship, and I don't know the first thing about midwifery, I make an awful grief councellor - though I suppose I'd perform an outstanding funeral service, I wouldn't be anyone's FIRST choice for such a thing. But I am passionate about my godess, and I want to spread her word across Arvum. I embrace life, Her gift to us all. Between birth and death, there is a life to live and she wants us to live it and not squander this gift. I take joy in talking about her, and to help the Harlequins in other ways; collecting money, hosting events, spreading her word. So, if you ever thought the Harlequins interesting but felt unsure? As long as you have the Queen in your heart, you are welcome. It is not up to anyone to decide what god or godess you want to follow and become a disciple of. The Radiant Bliss Whisper proves this. I prove this. If there is a longing in your heart, then follow it. Your God or Godess will know your love, will they not?
I don't know quite how it happened, but it seems I'm spending more and more time doing research lately. Some personal mysteries, and helping others. The scholars at the archives know me by first name by now, we have a jolly good time discussing all sorts of topics, musing over old tomes and interpreting the words. I suppose I caught on to a thing or two by mere exposure and these days I don't even find it THAT boring. Must never be afraid to change your views!

I believe she mentioned wanting to try her hand at the joust. I will have to see about making sure I am properly outfitted for such. After the match, I think our teasing was momentarily sidetrack by a comment made in poor choice.. but easily overlooked as a tease that didn't exactly go as planned. I know she did not mean to offend, and I took none to it after I realized that.
She is a remarkable woman, and I'm glad I got to meet her.

The Bard of Aleshire
Aleshire is a small village near Farhaven. In this village, there was a young man. He was quite the energetic young man, that would while away his days with stories and song. Oh, he loved to sing, and dance and entertain. And many thought that he would go to the Bard's College, and become quite the star - spreading the tales of Redrain far and wide.
At night, it was assumed that the young man was in the arms with some lovely lady, or plotting the tales of his next story, or writing his next song. But Aleshire had a problem. There was a thief in town - that was stealing from the town mayor and the higher ranked officials. Silver, expensive items, all of it was being taken by an unknown person or persons.
And then one night, there was a scream from a merchant's house. The thief had struck again! They chased the thief through the streets of Aleshire, and when they finally caught up to him - to everyone's surprise, it turned out that their town's hope - the young man with the golden voice, had turned to a life of crime. He was the one that had been breaking into the homes and stealing their silver and valuables.
The next day, the young man was dragged before the court in Aleshire. As he faced the Mayor and the Lady of the land, the charges were read, and the Lady frowned. 'These are serious allegations against you, young man'. she said to the thief. 'But I have been told of your voice and song, and I will give you a chance. Return everything you have stolen, and I will make sure you go to the Bard's College to be trained.'
The Mayor looked at him seriously and said 'Boy, you have a choice. You can be a bard. Or you can be a criminal. Which will it be?'
The young man was in fear for a moment, and then after a few moments of thought, straightened up, looked at the Lady and the Mayor and stated...
..I need to think on the Prose and Cons of it.

I think I may have confused a couple of people, but I thought it was a good story! It was a great event and you should see Mistress Seabright's artwork sometime. Maybe I can inspire her to work on a piece for Redrain.

To these few there is only the chase.
The chase is what gets them out of bed in the morning, and keeps them moving well beyond when all others are tired and must rest their aching legs. The pursuit is all there is, like a hunger that never stops, something that crawls up the throat and chokes, until one day the old wolf gets too close to prey that is stronger and faster.
The wolf chases because he must, and he chases forever, because he knows in his bones that this is what he must do. A creature with clarity of purpose and devoid of all chatter, living by its own code, and ultimately undone by it. There is no shame in the life of a wolf, only purity.
I tried, especially in my childhood, to see Carmella as a tragic figure, dousing herself in oil and leaving this life in a screaming pile of charred flesh and bones, not a single coin to her name. I do not think I am able to, and the realization is unsettling, somehow.
Carmella did not choose her path, but she was wise enough to find it by being true to herself, and in the end her requiem took the only form it could: absolute purity.
That is all to say, I have enjoyed the latest installment of the Tragedies from my most recent visit to Setarco. I would rate it far above average, and a great victory for the company involved in its production.

Went to make some payments today, and found out (one by one) that the same person has been gobbling up my debts. I liked them separated. I could keep the payments spread out across the month, stall with one debtor a little while paying another. Those days seem to be behind me, a half-dozen cronies being replaced by one.
Meeting with them now. If this is to be my last entry, the reasons why will be obvious.
