There was a lot of scolding over the lecture and question answering the Imperial Emissary gave. And honestly, there were some people that even I think were being needlessly hostile, or, at the very least, very /unwisely/ hostile. That said, I've given it some thought, since.

Sometimes things need to be said. Sometimes things need to be challenged. Sometimes you can't do that in a very polite fashion. And sometimes it shouldn't be polite anyway. I think there's a balance that can be struck between fawning over someone and shouting over them.

I don't claim to have managed it, but I think it's possible.

It's been some time since I held a poetry reading, but it's time for another. I look forward as I always do to hearing the voices of our fair city give wings to fairer words.

The theme is The Thirteen, our gods and goddesses of the Pantheon. They need not be prayerful but inspired by in some way.

Of course, all poetry can fall under the auspice of Jayus, so all poetry is welcome, whether fitting the theme or not. Gods know I can never turn away an earnest effort at poetry. It makes my heart sing to hear it, whether novice or professional, rhyming or free verse, lyrical or narrative.

I hope to see new faces as well as the familiar.

Book,

Its spring, thank the GODS! I've set out upon the waters as often as I can lately to either conduct business from my ship or to take people out on a leisure cruise along the coast. Whoever reads this, let this be a standing invitation that should you wish to take a leisure cruise along the coast (I suggest at sunset) I am more than willing to take you and your party out, provided I do not have some pressing matters at the time.

The Inverno presence in Arx is surprisingly quiet. When I journeyed from Caina to Setarco, and then from Setarco to Arx, I imagined a different world. I will have to start increasing our prestige in the city, if I intend to see anything done.

One Alejandro Rossetti is quite skilled with the guitar - and has made me wonder if I should pick up an instrument. Mmm. No. I may just hire him to follow me around playing instead.

What does one do when they stumble across an impromptu royal summit in the marketplace? Enjoy the show, of course! Discussions of tradition, gender roles, honor, all peppered with a little bit of silk shopping make for a fine afternoon.

If anyone has some very cheap but shiny jewelry or trinkets. Things of little to no value, that you no longer want or need, I would love to talk to you soon. Please write me.

Relationship Note on Domonico

Breathe. People have been becoming parents for as long as there have been people. Keeping an infant alive isn't terribly difficult. Just pay the appropriate people to do the heavy lifting and love them.

It is done.

The benches and the wall display were delivered and installed. The craftsmanship is exquisite but of that, I had no doubt. The office and storehouse are ready and I have some inkling of what lies in store for the auction house over the coming months.

I am satisfied but know there is no time to rest. There's always work to be done.

I think, perhaps, that it's time to put my woodworking tools down. I find myself more and more attracted to gems and silks. Maybe I should stock the shop one more time before I move on to other projects?

Relationship Note on Silas

It is a pleasure to be back in the city, and an even greater pleasure to be working under Baron Silas once more. I quite missed the place.

I am always amused to see my son Kyrios playing with Prince Asharion Grayson. He had a fantastic time at Asharion's jam birthday, although everything is still sticky. I don't really understand how after so many baths and launderings Kyrios can still be sticky, but he is. He can't stop talking about how fun it is, and he can't wait to see Asharion and his "Aunt" Tikva again.

Plus everyone who wanted to got to hold Lilah like she was a good-natured sack of potatoes. A good time was had by all.

I am filled with anticipation. Winter has finally given way and spring has returned with the magical scent of blossoms and the promise of beautiful things.

For some reason this spring feels different to me, thought I cannot say why. It is as though something unexpected and wonderful may come of it.

I wholeheartedly admit that that sensation of such brings many a secret smile and thrill to my heart.

What this may be? I do not know, but something sings to me that it will something I will adore.

I cannot wait!

Relationship Note on Adalyn

Weeks ago I went with Lady Jael, Lord Kedehern, and Lady Shae to try to round up some of the wild horses that live within Duskshire.

They were a wild bunch, but there was one in particular that caught my eye. (And threw me from his back, I would do him no honor to not mention this fact.) He was no horse though, but a long eared mule that strongly favored his horse ancestor. He was tall and proud as any amount, and smart to boot in knocking me off his back.

This inspired a desire to perhaps tame more of this herd, or breed and tame the younger ones to begin a line of mules.

"But Papa," my daughter Adalyn said, "You can't breed a line of mules!" Of which she is right. However, with the right progenitors I think we could make a solid breeding stock in mules. Horses aren't as sturdy, and donkeys can be dull.

A steady mule however? Very solid.

Now I just need to catch the rest of that herd.

Also, no, the will eat from FIELDS. My daughter lives under the threat of her life if she should let one of them into my garden.

Eddard too. Now that I think of it.

Relationship Note on Amari

I can hardly take much credit for the sword or even the bow, beyond putting to metal the incredible details you gave me for their crafting. Any time you visit the shop, I find myself inspired and with some intriguing new project to work on. So, thank /you/ for trusting me with such things of importance and letting me have the opportunity to attempt to bring them to life!

I spent some time with one of my lovely cousins, at the coffee shop. The ginger cake was delicious as usual, but I think I promised to plan an event at Farshaw House. I suppose I had best talk to Ryhalt and Clover about that first.

But it is summer so a garden party would be lovely.

While it is good to feel wanted, it is even better to feel that one can actually be helpful and fulfill the desired role. Though my researches have often yielded results quite different to the ones I had thought I was pursuing, they have pleasntly often proved to be fruitfully helpful in either the short or long term. And now that I am once again embarking on excursions into historical curiosity and obscure trivia, I find myself more than a little hopeful - optimistically excited, even.

While others have returned with fosterlings, I seemed to have returned with the cutest little puppy. Hungry little thing she is too. But that will make training her fairly easy as she is motivated by food. She has the same sort of look about her that Amari's dog Barf does. Now, to find a fitting name for her.

Part of me is offended and deeply angry at how a child can treat a person they call mother or father, and then the other part of me hurts at the thought that the child has been left in such a manner to act like such. I can only hope that in time she will come to find that not everyone would just leave her, and that those that do care should be given respect for trying to make their life better. I know that she is in good hands, and that my step-father will treat her fairly and raise her right.
