On another note, for those of you who might find themselves in the possibility of facing a Folly, I am not going to tell you to not do it. Others certainly will, loudly and often, but I will simply say to you that if your boon request is too boring and ends up with you in a Folly, then you are probably too boring to survive a Folly.

Don't feel bad. Die having fun if that's where you end up.

You must contact me. I need to know what I am allowed to write about in the first volume of my travels.

My cousin is full of life, he has always been. We rode together in Setarco, and we will do the same now, until the curtains close at last.

Hunting for thorns

I will never ever volunteer myself for something like this again. I needed to have budgeted for new clothes, for loss of sleep. There has a fair mix between mean and kind pranks played upon me. My favorite is waking and looking out my window to see artwork. A large tortoise, and what I can only assume to be myself riding upon the back with a carrot upon a stick in front of the mouth of it. Truly wondrous.

Some of you have ruined my clothing, and my sleep.

My steward is back in the city, and not a moment too soon. The manor has been uncomfortably quiet without all the yelling in the hallways... though he might be glad to have missed that phase.

Sometimes, you can be entirely certain of what something is and then realize that it is something far greater, even past that. Our first impressions are rarely everything, and there are always more questions. Always more things to worry about. Always new things to be excited for.

Life never moves at the speed you'd like it to. The unpleasant parts move far too slowly, the pleasant ones far too quickly.

To a wonderful patron,

I wouldn't normally come to white journals to write something that might be better off in a letter. But you have offered a rural boy a glimpse into wonders when he might not ever have gone further than the largest town. Granted, I put my own feet on many paths but you opened paths that would've been closed.

I enjoyed our adventure, it was something I needed.

They were big shoes and great minds that came before me. I now step into them, and tread the path that they did. I can only hope that I do not disappoint. It will take many hands I think, to live up to the standards of Joscelin. Time will tell if I was the right choice.

Brunch with the family and friends was fun. I am wondering if really I just want a rocking chair, maybe. Not a swing after all.

Although, I have always enjoyed the swing back at Farshaw House, so much so that my cousin Alban calls it Lisebet's swing. Perhaps it will be Ivy's swing now, as she'll soon be old enough to enjoy it.

Book,

I had a meeting with Sir Preston this week. I have to say that I was very pleased with the man, it was suggested I speak to him by Dame Thena Grayhope about some topics that shall not be written. In conversation, he is direct and wise which are two things that I respect greatly. I look forward to engaging him in the future.

Though I am considered a Prodigal by the Compact, we were not so far removed to have forgotten the traditions and ways of its people. Honor is not a foreign concept and we will prove it whole heartedly to any that look upon us.

Relationship Note on Preston

A silver tower rises in Arx, city of golden stone, with a crystal globe in every room. Looking into the first globe, you see a blue stone city with a pewter tower, the model of a different Arx. These are the forms the city takes when Aion rouses from slumber for a sip of water before returning to interrupted dreams.

In every age someone, looking at Arx, imagines that the city is eternal: "Asking /why/ the tower is copper serves no purpose." Carnifex Alora worshipped the gods and gave obedience to the royals, yet before even so lofty a personage as she installed her model into a crystal globe, the stones of her Arx changed hue and the tower grew a new skin.

On the map of your empire, Templar, there must be room both for the big, stone Arx and the little Arx in crystal globes. Not because they are equally real, but because they are equally unreal.

(In a vision, my Master told me: "We are certain of this much: the dream we can interpret is not Aion's dream, the principles we can obey are not Aion's principles, and any doubt that is born of virtue is not Aion's doubt." Upon waking, my Mistress added: "None of that is true.")

I was approached by messenger from Lady Celeste regarding my assistance on a rather ambitious project to oversee building a Shrine to Gloria at Setarco, the project promises to be a rather bold and impressive one, with a very artistic bent to it. It sounds rather interesting, and something different than my attention had been spent on so far to date, and I think one that I will gladly take up.

It's done.

With a sigh of relief I pass on my position to capable hands, Josephine Arcuri will be a brilliant Guildmaster. From a collection of worthy nominations for successors, any outcome would have pleased me. My relief is in that it's over and I don't have to worry about my Guild as their leader, and can simply be an artisan and a mother for a while.

Still, there are projects to see through, ends to knot and situations to tie off. But I'm pleased, well beyond please, to see this work done and this chapter close. For now.
