Relationship Note on Emrys
When I was a young Apprentice Whisper, I was surrounded by some of the greatest beauties as fellow Apprentices. As is the case with many young girls, I was ever conscious of my appearance, desiring the beauty, attention, and acclaim of those around me. The moments not consumed with such thoughts were spent in study under the ever astute and watchful eye of Whisper Emrys, who undertook with great diligence the education of the lot of us.
During one such afternoon spent learning about the relationships between the Houses of the Oathlands with those of the Crownlands, I interrupted to ask, plaintively, "Emrys, do you think I'm as pretty as the other Apprentices?" To this day, I'm not quite sure what possessed me to ask such a question of Emrys of all people, for he was and is well-known for an adherence to giving honest criticism no matter how tender one's feelings might be.
I remember he closed the book he was reading from, narrowed his eyes, and grasped my chin in his hand. He turned my face to one side and then turned it to the other, scrutinizing my visage with his cool gaze. Finally, after what seemed an interminable amount of time, Emrys released my chin and said dismissively, "No, you are not, but you're clever and that will last a good deal longer."

Recently I have decided to try my hand at sea shanties. While my audience seemed /very/ impressed and even finished it after requested, I might have to gain a bit more experience.

When the call for aid goes out it amazes me how many have answered. The Oathlands finds ain't from every quarter when the need arises and I can not be more proud for the allies we have cultivated. I am glad to work with every one of these honorable members of the Compact.

I am not at all sure what is going on, but it seems there is sickness from the ship that was in peril in the harbour. I am no healer, so I thought it best to stay well away from all the goings on there, so that I am not slowing down the healers, and also so that I do not get sick as well.
I hope that is enough help. I could perhaps send food - or something. Would that help at all?

I was sorry that I could not attend the first of Vellichor's renewals, organised by cousin Sparte. I need to try and make sure that I attend the next. I truly approve of the concept that he has not only put forward, but also taken forward into practice. Huzzar! Archscholar Sina approved the construction of the tearoom at the Academy. I have no idea of what I wanted to look like but my desire to make it perfect has hindered the actual plans to make it functional. My goal for this coming week is to make sure that I finally start putting things in place to make the tearoom functional. I promise.

Amidst the seemingly never-ending troubles afflicting Arx - and all too many parts of the Compact - there is a lot to be said for taking the time every now and then to relish some of the simpler things in the world. Among those, I personally find snow to be something that merits appreciation. It can certainly be exceedingly uncomfortable, awkward, and unsteady underfoot... but as a privileged aristocrat, I have the chance to enjoy it from within well-heated rooms, while peeking out from beneath a fur-trimmed hood, or while following in the footsteps of kind assistants clearing a path for me. The pervasive quiet, the changed quality of the light, the softened shapes, and the sensations of stray flakes upon the skin... perhaps it is a sign of having lived among Northern prodigals for so long, but I am delighted to have the chance to revel in them all.

I have always been told a busy mind does not allow for someone to dwell on their worries though I think it to be false. Worries never truly go away and they tend to need to be thought of lest they drive you awake in the middle of the night with their incessant chatter. Here I am, tending to troubles I should not even be considering and writing away in my journal to try to quiet the thoughts that steal the precious hours of sleep I do get.

Great. Now there's plague or some kind of contagion in the city. Guess it's time to take a nice sabbatical back in Setarco, the most beautiful city in all the world. I don't know that I'll miss much while I'm away but I am almost certain I will miss a great deal of the happenings.
