Relationship Note on Rey
It isn't clear always, or even usually, to me why one road is more 'right' than another. It's simply up to me to choose as well as I can when the time comes and make the best of those choices.
Lady Rey and I are ending our betrothal.
I could cite the poetics of sea and moon, ebb and flow, wax and wane, and have, but it feels hollow. There is scant comfort in pretty words. I already miss her. I am sad for the people of Pearlspire who will not grow to love her has I have. On the pilgrimage, I couldn't shake the sense that we are meant for different paths. She will remain Laveer and steer her House through troubled times, bright beacon she is, Lady of the Lighthouse.

To be clear, I now know that having to wield a sword to be in the Guard was wrong. That said, I'm ninety percent sure I would be bad at other weapons also, do at this point I'll stick with it. Also I really love my sword. I'm experimenting with sleeping with it on a peg or in this pillow sheathe Sparte gave me.

This winter has been particularly hard on me I feel and I didn't get out and about as much as I wanted due to the cold and the snow. The journey to the Northlands to deal with the Seraph took a lot out of me.
No matter now as I've decided that the best way not to stop and plant roots is to get back out there and actually do something and make a difference.

Seeing to the wounded and ill, including myself, while limited to the use of one hand is... inconvenient. Another layer of empathy for those I look after. A better understanding of why patience frays, with body and self and those around.

Iron Guards come in all shapes and sizes, as do their blades. Or maces. Or bows.
Learning to defend yourself -without- using a weapon is also invaluable in our line of work, but I realize one can only be an expert at so many things.
