Relationship Note on Mabelle

I am not usually inclined towards tea, much less tea shops. Still, it must be said that I am convinced that Lady Mabelle is by far the finest companion one could hope for in what is normally a dull atmosphere, turning it into something rather lively.

It's commendable that there was so many who assisted in the recent incident with the caraval crashing into the dock. I am concerned though at the ease that it managed to do so. Surely there should be greater protections in place to defend Arx from the sea?
Maybe I'll draft some plans.

There is much to be concerned about in Arx these days, and indeed across Arvum herself. It feels as if there is always one disaster or another happening, a great deal of unrest and social disorder. I was pleased to find House Mazetti offering a short reprieve from it all with their wintertime gathering and telling of spooky tales. While scary stories might not seem much like a reprieve at all, there was an unmistakable camaraderie to the people who came. I shared one of my own. One I have not shared often in the many years since my youth.

I wasn't alone, however. Lord Theron Mazetti and Lady Braith Sanna also came bearing tales and proved an utter delight to listen to. Lady Braith in particular has a flair for the dramatic. One can easily tell she is well-practiced in the art of spinning a satisfying narrative out of thin air.

It was a good choice to brave the night's driven snow for the sake of some much deserved merriment.

I have little love for the winter of Arx: spoiled, too much, by the potential lure of Setarco's winter. But I will stay, close to the fire where possible -- those who know me know I usually whole up for the winter and will, I'm sure, forgive me for that.

Sadly I will be forced to make an exception for the Tournament of Thorns pre-game. Unwisely, I have chosen an outdoor setting -- probably not great forethought on my part -- so I imagine I won't spend a great deal of time outside. But those that want to find me should come by the Menagerie in the weeks before the Tournament, to admire my painting.

Maybe you'll even win a Thorn from it.

For the Unmarked Graves

The star-filled sky looms o'er sea
Night cools the sun-warmed shores now
On this beach please do bury me
To return to her my vow

Dig the grave in the soft sand
Leave my blood and bones in deep
Twas not the death that I had planned
Yet I beg, don't let her weep

I am at peace, for me don't fret
Some songs to remember, some songs to forget

Countess Mikani and I traveled to the docks in the Lowers the other day in search of Rukhnis. While we were there, a large ship that had taken fire was rapidly approaching the dock. Instantly, the Countess raced forward, and dove into the frigid water. She climbed aboard the ship and managed to drastically slow its advance and reduce its impact into the dock, upon which were still many people of the Lowers, despite the best efforts of Lady Acantha, Juniper, Sir Calaudrin and others to get those nearby to safety.

Sir Merek and Lord Ahmer also got aboard the ship, and managed to help the crew and passengers get to deck. Amid the flames and wreckage, Lord Ian did not hesitate to dive into the water, and helped many to reach safety on the docks. Lady Thea and Dame Irisa Wainryte helped to carry those who had been wounded to a makeshift triage set up by Rukhnis Al-Katibi, and many lives were saved due to her skill and diligence.

We managed to see the crew and passengers of the ship to safety, but it was clear that they were unwell, and it has since been revealed that they have some kind of previously unknown illness. The infected have been taken to the Saving Grace Hospital, and are under the care of Marquessa Reigna Keaton, and it is said that any with medical knowledge who might wish to help should send a message to the Marquessa.

Change is fueled by choice. No one chooses hoping for the worst and healing... healing is always change for the better. I chose to help the low, to heal with my own two hands, and left greater heights behind to do it. But from on high, the path is wider. More lives touched.

I have other choices to make. I want to make them. But I'm in the fire now and everything hurts. There's time. There will be time. I hope there's time.

I joined the Harlequins today. It was time, it really was.

I've already had a chance to help someone, even if in truth, I mostly just listened and offered some encouraging words. It doesn't have to be more than that, does it?

I am sure that this cold winter season will come soon to an end, and things will start to grow again. And yet, rumours are troublesome things. I think I may have to go visit the Shrine of Gloria and see if there is anything I might do to assist.

I will watch the thralls wrap the land around themselves
in their ancient work, in field and meadow.
I will address their baffled queen and mute princes.

I will bribe their seraphs and sully their shrines and
they will expose me before the most powerful
of the statues in their keeping.

Everything is her, and everywhere
the sweet daydreams of a woman
who smiles as she puts on her jewelry and combs her hair.

Everything is him, and everywhere
the sweet daydreams of a man
who smiles as he puts on his jewelry and combs my hair.

(a scrawl continues in messier handwriting, apparently unrelated to the above: "You left me there you left me there 'They leave me there, shutting the mausoleum gates behind them ... ' The black snowfall of a plague ship drifts through the Lowers and becomes our breath ... black snow and black sand and the Queen of Death wearing her jester's cap who whispers riddles to the faithful and speaks with a terrible clarity to those who don't believe.")

Where are you Ariella? Are you safe? What adventures have you had? I miss you so much and Luis, too. My twins won't even recognize their aunt, my twin. You missed another of our birthdays and … we used to always try to spend those together even if we did not celebrate a formal party celebrating the passage of years. Come home, Ariella, come home soon. You are missed.

Maman,

I will be staying in Arx until after the winter, I think. But I will send a copy of this letter with uncle Gregori, when he heads out next week. I just wanted you to know that things are going pretty good for me here in Arx! I have started exploring the city more. I met some very famous people this week, Maman! And they were all REALLY NICE!

First there was Princess Sorrel Thrax, the Bladesong herself! She was so nice and she asked if I would teach her some dancing! And the Mockingbird of the Bard's College told me I should try to join! And then there was Sir Jeffeth Bayweather! He's so nice! And he shines like the sun!

I also met Legate Grayhope, the Shepherd of the Faith, and he was so so so charming!

I only hid from a couple of them at first. But they were all very nice to met. You would have liked them!

Other than, things are going well. I work on the streets entertaining people with dances and stories (I told Princess Sorrel the story of Magpies, and she seemed to really like it!), and am making enough to get by right now. But I might try to find something a little more steady. Oh! I also met the Sword of Lenosia, and he says he works for Yasmine-- THE YASMINE --and that I if I need work I should write to her and tell her that I know him!

I might get to meet Yasmine, maman!

But I've written too much and have things to do, so I will close this letter now.

Love you always, maman.

Yours,
Parisa

I hope people in this city have skill with ropes and nets. I have the feeling I'm going to be in need of their aid to invent something fairly lightweight and portable that can nonetheless be set up over a fairly wide area, and tolerate a person in armour falling on it.

Like me.

The qualifying games for the Tournament of Thorns start in two days and continue up until the day before the Tournament! If you'd like to try your hand at one (or all) of them, here's a preview of what you can expect:

Princess Marisol's game: Princess Marisol and Prince Tyrval will hold court for those seeking the copper thorn. The challenge is that each contestant must compliment Prince Tyrval somehow. His Royal Highness will get to judge each compliment and those found wanting will not receive a thorn. They probably won't receive a blood curse, but we make no promises.

Lord Michael's game: Prank wars! Lord Bisland welcomes skilled pranks pulled on him. The best pranks will win the bronze thorn and entrance into the Tournament. Please try not to maim him.

Archlector Etienne's game: Blessed Etienne's game is a game of the Faith. He will give contestants a topic and they must then compose a stirring sermon on the spot to inspire the public. Those who are sufficiently Faithful (or good at faking it) will win a coveted golden thorn.

Lord Sebastian's game: Lord Pravus will be camped out amongst the forestry of the Menagerie. His game will require contemplation of a detailed and distracting painting. Only those with skills sharp in perception and deduction will figure out where he's hidden his steel thorns.

Princess Alarissa's game: Do you have what it takes to meet the Princess-Consort of Thrax's meticulous standards when it comes to setting a table? Is that a grapefruit spoon? Where does the butter dish even go? Are you SURE you want to use that fork for your fish? If you know your etiquette, you could win the brass thorn.

Lord Rysen's game: Lord Rysen's retainer Lygeia is known for her great composure. Contestants are charged with telling a story that will make her laugh. It can be funny, surprising, wondrous or witty - anything that proves a chuckle or laughter from the dour Lygeia will grant a pewter thorn and entry into the Tournament.

Lady Monique's game: Lady Greenmarch's game is two truths and a lie, and just as it sounds. You will tell her a lie, paired with two truths, and she will attempt to guess which one is the lie. Those she cannot guess will receive a silver thorn.

Anytime the Committee members are out in public <OOC - with their LRP flag set; see Events bbpost 77 for rules> the game is afoot! May success be with you.

Last Will and Testament of Eddard Clement

If I fall from this world and leave it behind, know that I probably died doing what I loved. Or stabbed. Probably the latter. I hope not to die, but circumstances seemed to shift around me and beneath my feet. My coffin is purchased and prepared already, remove all the clothes from it first. They are the clothes that are dead to me, feel free to burn them in my pyre.

First, and foremost. Baron Norwood Clement is charged with the care and consoling of Tycho, the Reindeer.

Give my cutlass to the next best fanciful idiot with red hair and an incurable lack of sense.

Give my waistcoats to the community gardens scarecrows and my frockcoats to the bearers of my coffins. Do not expect my uncle to be able to tell the difference.

For my dresses, they must go to the leggiest, sultriest blonde in the Oathlands ward. Baron Norwood Clement must be the one doing the looking and judging. I expect a written white journal as to why she was chosen.

I expect everyone in attendance of my funeral to wear flannel. Even the King. Especially the king.

I would like a Redrain throat yodeler to 'sing' as I am laid to rest.

All compliments must be spoken in the form of insults. For example, "He was the human embodiment of a puff pastry. Tasty for a moment but without substance or sustenance." Also, "He used his wit like a bull uses its horns, he slammed them into everything to see if it would fall over."

I have nothing to give to whom I may love in particular, because I never hesitated to give when I was alive.

Please note that the scholars may take some time preparing your journal for others to read.

Leave blank if this journal is not a relationship
