I think your father would be proud, if in a very grudging fashion. -_-

Cold days are juxtaposed by warm fires and warmer company... I quite like the snow. So long as it stays white.

A couple weeks off - some time away from my office, as even the highest beauty can grow stuffy - has left me fresh and renewed. I have a small stack of messages waiting which I will need to attend to, but thankfully, it is not as tall as I had feared.

It's nice to see a new winter. A winter that doesn't have any green in it. I hope I'm not speaking too soon. But it would be nice to have a green-less snowfall this year.

For you?
I always have the time. No matter what I am doing, no matter what is going on, I am available at your beck and call. Merely say the word and I (and my curls) will be at your side.

Several days ago, I attended the revealing of the new statue in the Hall of Heroes commemorating the life and deeds of Darrow Darkwater. I did not know him, but it was clear he was a hero and worthy of such an honor.
What stood out to me more than the statue were the comments from those who had taken the time to get to know him -- and the comments that suggested this was no easy task.
It made me realize that so often we value highly those who let us see their true selves easily and readily -- as we should.
But there are those who are not so easily understood. There are those whose true treasure lies well beneath the surface. Much like the most valuable metals and jewels hide deep within the earth's crust, the truth of some people's personalities lies far beneath the facade they present to the world.
It is absolutely worth the time to find, and more valuable than any gold or diamond.

Marquessa Pudding is the best dog in the Compact and I adore her. I bet she looked so cute all covered in snow and crumbs.

Since Thrax women eat a different....sort...of food. One which is alive and wiggling and squishes and crunches in the mouth, how does one tell if one's Thrax wife is pregnant?

I want to ste...I mean borrow a Caraval. No one wants to help me with this. This makes me a bit sad. I think it would be a great adventure. I would give it back.
Eventually...

There are few I know as skilled as the Mirrormasks in refining ones patience, in honing it into a skill rather than a setback.

The random meetings one has in Arx are a plenty and I realize how lucky of a thing that is. In Sanctum I would never have the good fortune of random chance meetings. Not a high probability that is. Here? Here we are a melting pot, the testing ground for something greater. A meeting of minds and purposes and it all reveals itself in some great tapestry that frays, unravels and yet still manages to hold together.
It may look like chaos and disorganization but turn your head at a different angle and you can see the pattern unfold. There is reason and purpose. There is a measure of order and fate but there is also freedom that makes itself known in different hues and splashes of inspiration.
Keep weaving. Arx lives through each of us.

It might be the little things. I have been wearing far too much black as of late, though umbra is beautiful, I feel it is time to add some color to life. The little things are sometimes what keeps you grounded into the here and now, and not lost in the endless what ifs.

Always love it when a contract is completed, you know. One of the things, I do like about the Great Road? The people you meet going down it. Organizing patrols isn't my usual forte unless we're guarding a caravan. But there's always that charm when traveling rural areas. Especially when it's quiet. I think there's a good potential for business here.

A chance meeting in the Shrine of the Thirteenth led to a very interesting conversation with the Countess of Fortezza di Iriscal. She is extremely generous -- I am anxiously awaiting the luxury brocade piece that is being made from the bolts she sent Lady Margret and me. I only hope I am able to do its beauty justice.

It's always fun when a family dinner leads to new meetings and curiosities. I will have to learn more about this southern style of fighting and see what challenges it presents. Something to look forward to.
