The more I learn - The more I realize I just don't know.

Knowledge can be just as dangerous as ignorance.

I am slowly ordering inventory for the shop. New items should be available next week. I've had several nobles stop by to place orders and we are delighted to have your business. By the middle of next week we should be fully stocked and ready to serve the public. I can't wait!

It cannot be overstated the delight of being served breakfast in bed.

Especially when beautifully presented.

Recently I have been finding myself get back into the game of Conquer. Now, while I may not be the one out at sea, thinking moves ahead is a trait both brother and I share.

Conquer is giving me a taste, again, for military development, deployment and exposing your opponents weakness. Perfect then, no?

Daisies are pretty,
Daffies have style,
Your face is capturing,
And so is your smile.

Wonderful things about summer:

Fireflies, watermelons, thunderstorms where the sky cracks and booms while the rain drums so hard on the ground that it bounces, fishing in the early morning, bathing in the evening in cool water, noon sun reflecting off the water of a hidden pond fed by a forest spring, summer markets heavy with the scent of freshly harvested herbs.

Terrible things about summer:

Sticky and sweaty days, my hair going POOF in a very undignified way, thunderstorms with wind that sends the rain straight through your windows to make a big puddle on your floor and soak your favorite shirt that you were TRYING to DRY, and insects.

Especially the blasted insects.

Another week of adventure and sailing to far away places. Well, not that far, but still far enough that coming back to Arx made me realise I'm quite comfortably at home in the city by now.

Went by Joscelin's shop and drooled over the new jewelry that I somehow resisted to buy.

Mostly don't feel the stab wound any longer, but it left a nice scar to forever remind me of an amazing woman. I hope I get to meet her again, but preferably with less stabbings involved.

Looking forward to getting back to playing at taverns, singing the song about Copper made by the amazing Princess Sorrel.

Today I met Mirari's father, Ari, at the Mercantile where I was engaging with a customer at the time. I do not think I have made it a secret that meeting her changed my life. I grew up an orphan in the Lowers with as much kindness as anyone down there had to give, which anyone who has grown up down there knows is not a lot. When Mirari found me I was aging out of the orphanage with not much aspiration to anything, something which changed when she hired me as her personal assistant and messenger. I am utterly grateful for everything she has done for me, but none more so than trusting and valuing me enough to adopt me into her family. It's something I've never had before, a group of people to rely on, who call me one of their own. It may seem such a small thing to have someone call you a sister or a daughter if you grow up hearing it, but I am nineteen years old and this is the first year someone has called me a sister and today was the first day I have heard someone call me a daughter.

I am determined to make my family proud.

My Sally,

I reckon I would not have done you proud last night. I got into my cups. It's my own fault for being poor in my wording in my search for viddles coin.

I got a bag a silver the likes of which we never seen in a message. I mean thousands of them silvers. Don't reckon I could count them easily.

But the note and job offer spoke of you. You'd get one silk dress every year. And you could have your own place, no leaks, and the like. I tried not to cry Sally, I tried -- it was your dream to come here. A dream I'm livin' and I just couldn't imagine the look of pride on your face we was set up like that. I guess I didn't make it clear you are gone from here and waiting for me on the other side. I always wanted to get you a fancy dress and have you feel like you was a princess. You was always my queen, Sally.

I got into my feelings and my cups. I drank myself rotten missing you fierce. Angry. Sad. All full a pitty and junk in my belly.

I'm sorry, I'll do better. You know its hard for me onna account I gotta do this without you. I'll do better, I promise.

Yesterday at Bold Espressions, there were good drinks, good treats and good company. I did get something to worry about from Lady Amari, with respect to marriage that I had not thought of before.

I do hope that is never an issue.

I had occasion to go to Guildmaster Joscelin's shop today on an errand, and found while I was there the loveliest gift for my Peri. Also quite a number of Eurusi-inspired designs; I shall have to ask her how she came to craft such pieces.

To say I have been busy is an understatement! Though it was a bit overwhelming, I did enjoy watching the goings on at the End of Spring Fling. So many happy faces even in such trying times. On an unrelated note, I'm quite looking forward to the new mantle I'll be sporting. With things being in such disarray for my family, it'll be good to get the records squared away and folks getting what they need. This'll keep me quite busy!

Relationship Note on Gunther

Met a really sweet old man today.

He spoke about his beloved wife and you could see it on his face as he spoke of her, the love he has for her. They must have shared quite a love and a life together. He'd tell you she was the unlucky one to have had him and that he was the lucky one. To be so humble and to respect someone so...

We should all dare to dream to have such a love.

I know that one day when I'm gone, I should hope that my own husband - poor sod - would look back upon my absence and days together as this man looks back upon his sweet and departed wife.

His 'Goddess'.

You set the bar high, Gunther, for all the husbands and husbands-to-be.
Very high, indeed.

As we mull over these offers of help from various quarters, I do wish to say one thing. Which is that we are not powerless as we are now. These are offers of help, but they are not offers of rescue. Times are dark, but we have fought and won our battles, won our tomorrows. The death at Stormwall, how close the enemy came to Arx at the Lodge, during the Siege - it is easy to look at these things and decide we can no longer go alone, we cannot keep paying that price. Yet, we won those battles. With steel and sinew and blood for the most part.

Perhaps we need to remember that we can fight on our feet, that the burden of our losses is not yet so great that we cannot grip our sword and stand. And regardless of whether we take one of these deals, or indeed none of these deals, we still must face the problems that exist in the meantime. Oathlands and Lyceum vassals engaged in a border war. Purposeless killings of Shavs in the Oathlands. The yet unresolved killings of Templars and mercies, of Solace, of the breach of guest rights. And still the rise of our enemies on our lands continues.

In the coming days and weeks I hope to have an answer to some of this, and show that we are not yet so broken we cannot pick up our sword.
