You have been much on my mind. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the gift you gave me. I cannot accurately explain what it means.
I hope we will speak more soon.

Could you believe the music? The Nightingale of the Bard's College really outdid herself!
I heard she wrote the whole thing. Astounding.

However complicated our paths became, and wherever yours takes you from me now, just know I have forgotten none of it.
I never will.
I love you.

What is clear is that the world is changing. That another friend has been lost, will be buried, one that I believe was dearer to me than I dared to realize until it was too late. The absence he leaves behind is a chasm that I'm not sure how to find the way across. I feel broken, and I expect to feel this way for some time.
I will miss you, all of you, so much more than my words can say.

...you're in the wrong profession. Any moron with half-assed training can pick up a sword and sell their "skills" for coin.
When the job is done. You cash out, go buy yourself something nice and shut the fuck up. That's it. Easy money.

Yet this does not excuse a Faith that routinely fabricates truth for its own convenience. A fallen discipleship is no lighthouse for the Church.

People may love those to whom they have given their fealty, but when times get scary, the common folk seek the refuge and comfort of the Faith.
Times are getting very scary. Peers would do well not to challenge their people to choose between them and the sixth great house.

I suppose I have no legitimate reason to continue shaving my head daily. I am no longer in the field, do not have to worry about the omnipresent threat of parasites, grime, or overly bored compatriots with malicious nocturnal dying habits. Still, such worries have been replaced by their own forms of anxiety. If I no longer keep shorn, where will it all end? Baldness has become a rote process to me now; I wake, I shave. I start at my chin and work my way up. If I change this, how will I know when to stop? At the ears? The temples? Will I end up with some great, foot high crest like some sort of demented rooster; or will I find myself only attending to the parts I can see easily - resulting in a formal clip in the front and long, albeit festive, locks in the back? Perhaps I will forgo shaving altogether - but what then? Shall I be relegated to naught but a pair of eyes peering out from within a luxurious globe of fiber? Will the knitting guild suddenly take an interest in me and being pursuing me at all ends? Shall I awaken in the middle of the knight to find a gaggle of courtly ladies clustered about my bed, commenting on color, texture, thickness; complimenting the staple length... Actually... wait...

So many messages to answer, and lovely thick letters from people talking about their experiences on the roads throughout the Compact. Markets to visit (and a trade fair to organize!), and writing has already begun for the next edition of the Almanac. I would never have guessed, ten years ago, that I'd enjoy sitting at a desk for hours, just looking through notes (both my own, and those of other experts), and turning those notes into helpful advice, commentary, and the like for merchants from those on their first caravan, to the larger merchant houses of the great cities. But I do! It is a little like putting the world into order - not a stern, rigid order that has no flexibility and doesn't let people be people - but order nonetheless.
If anyone passing through Arx happens to read this journal, and wishes to share their own road experiences, never hesitate to send me a letter! It may not be included in the Almanac, but I love to hear about people's merchant adventures, either in writing, or over drinks - my treat, of course. What good's a story if you can't even get a free ale out of it, after all?

It is the product of earnest, steadfast belief in the gods and a desire to see Their will done. That much is commendable, but those possessed by zeal often begin to see themselves as direct instruments of the gods. This arrogance leads them to forget that in Arvum, only the Dominus and their Legates speak for the gods. Their instruments are the priests of the Faith, and the priests are assisted by the Faith's discipleships. Only those acknowledged and guided by the Faith of the Pantheon can say they enact Their will or speak with authority when it comes to interpreting Them or granting Their forgiveness. To think otherwise is dangerous hubris and something we must all be careful not to encourage.

I put an arrow through the throat of a woman that turned one of my people into red goop. If you want to blame some spring rheumatism, fine, but I find my knees aren't feeling so penitent right now.
And I'm sick to death of being lectured for keeping secrets by the people keeping secrets. A little daylight would do us all good.

You say you will stand with the Crimson Blades, fight with them, even during this period - in that you choose working with them over the Templars. It is a choice, of course, one you are free to make. But even if we ignore the questions of right and wrong and take this as a practical matter, it might suggest to the King he needs at least a Lord Commander with the basic skills in mathematics. To forsake working with a military order numbering over 100,000 across Arvum for one numbering at most a few thousand seems military planning on a level of trying to lick a Shav Warlord to see if that would work. Especially when you the Crimson Blade commandant undertakes her atonement, with grace and honour that may well see her emerge with greater respect from the Faith Militant even if we cannot quite forget, so you could simply have stayed out of the matter.

Let me publicly congratulate Prince Niccolo for his accomplishments with the Black Fox. Entering that esteemed venue is rather like coming home.
Please note that the scholars may take some time preparing your journal for others to read.
