Relationship Note on Sorrel

I was awestruck by Princess Sorrel today, she did such a brilliant job in the jousting lists and frankly I have never felt myself fly quite so well as I did with that final hit. Very well done, you did an incredible run and deserved that win!

Princess Tikva, wow you were an amazing opponent, pure grace on a horse. I remember the horse race and how you flew, that is the only word I could describe it as, flew down the lane. Today was no different, well fought!

I won a joust! It was amazing! I didn't think I'd win, since I don't sit a horse very well, but apparently I pack quite the wallop with the lance! I'm giddy, absolutely giddy, and all of my competitors were amazing.

I'd like to thank Sir Jordan, Princess Coraline, and Sir Corban for putting on a good show with me. It was a delight and you were all worthy opponents.

Books, books, and more books. I should think I will never stop swimming in books.

I need to take a page from Princess Alarissa and go longingly admire the umbra, and presume to spindle myself in the glorious weaveries and fashions of the nation instead. That, at least, will let me sleep well at night.

Well now, Aeterna is divine but this Umbra? Transcendant. I am not often prone to dark shades but I must confess dear dragon that I have found something that will finally go with the coronet of the Princess of Maelstrom.

And there were slippers to match.

So delightful.

You'd laugh to have read Victus' letter when I asked him to send me an additional twenty thousand for the slippers - because really, you can't get the dress and just leave the slippers there on the shelves so lonely.

Take it you damned vampire.

Is that respect? Love? Adoration? He bought me pretty things none the less.

I think he's buttering me up so I won't say no when he makes noise about getting another alacrite axe. Something about how he needs a new one because the old one doesn't match his jacket.

he is using my own tricks against me Dragon.

I am rescinding the ban on Princess-Consort Alarissa Thrax in the Gilded Page, and issuing a public apology to her for letting my emotions get in the way of fair decisions. Princess Alarissa is welcome any time she would like.

Maybe I should spend more time in bars to keep up on this.

Day 5 of being stationed at the murder.

The children wanted to hold an assembly of peers, but ran into difficulties when faced with the fact that few of them shared royal blood. Other methods of determining leadership were had. The Booksmart child put forth his own intellect as his reason for being crowned king of the orphans. But a challenge arose from a child who claimed he was the eldest and had lost most of his baby teeth to show for it. I personally checked and indeed, he was quite old. Their challenge was counter-challenged by a third child, claiming that as he was the biggest, they should all follow him. Indeed, he was very big.

Anarchy was soon to break out and this was no way to run a kingdom. I put myself forward as regent as I was not only the oldest, but also the biggest. Both of these factors made my coronation unanimously celebrated. However, once the parchment crown was laid on my head, I was suddenly pricked in the side by a wooden dagger. It was the booksmart child. He proclaimed that while I was the biggest and the oldest, I was not the smartest, as I didn't see my assassination coming.

I am afraid that I am now dead.

Spoken like a bookworm, Corgi. More accurately, spoken like a Scholar of Vellichor. You're going to be an excellent addition, brother-mine.

Today marks my last day in the Shrine Of The Thirteenth. What was strange, and honestly slightly creepy when I first arrived I now see as beautiful in it's own way. While I was here I was asked a question, by someone. I was asked that once I take my oath what if I found out about some horrible world ending thing happening in a black journal, what would I do? Would I break my vow? While the question took some thought. I came to the conclusion that, no, I don't see myself breaking it. We already prepare as much as we can for such a scenario also, I firmly believe that if we hold onto the things that makes us human. Like compassion, honor, bravery, kindness and yes, vows. Humans will always prevail. I believe it down to my bones. I believe it because because we're capable of so many things the Enemy is not. We're capable of putting others before ourselves, we have literal armies of good people who would and often do give their lives for the benefit of others. Because, every one of them understands that our civilization, our way of life is bigger than one person. One of the ways we ensure this is through The Scholars Of Velichor, we make sure that knowledge will be passed down to future generations, we understand that the passing of that knowledge is one of the major things that separate us from animals. It's what allows civilization to function, many of us make a joke of being a bunch of bookworms. While this is true, to me at least, we're also one of the cornerstones of our civilization, without knowledge passed down through the years we couldn't possibly achieve the level of comfort and knowledge that we're at today. The scholars know better than anyone what is lost when knowledge is lost. Our vows as scholars is what holds that together. So what would I do if faced with such an impossible decision? I would pray to the gods and trust my faith in them, and my faith in humanity. Also, can one honestly take a vow that they think they already have intention to break with good reason? I don't think so.

How long is it until the masque, Scholar? [ note: Lord Karadoc Saik glanced at Scholar Suman for an answer to the question. ]

OH. Not that long then. What do you think I ought to attend as?

[note: Scholar Suman shrugged. ]

That's not particularly helpful, Scholar.

[note: The Scholar suggests that the nobleman stop talking and continue dictating, because the Scholar has better things -- ]

FINE. Be that way, Scholar. Please put down that if anyone's fool enough to read my entries that I am taking suggestions as to a costume for the masque. Otherwise, I will be taking up space at the Tower that evening and will open the music chamber to anyone in the city that's generally against the idea of a masked ball or was too lazy or indifferent enough to create a costume in time. A bottle exchange, I think. As though I needed another reason to lounge around and drink.

There is nothing quite like ones husband striding through the maw and throwing down another trophy.

This one with far less blood and ichor, but no small amount of sand and dampness. Preening like a peacock. For he has brought home shiny things for which to please the mistress of the house.

It seems auspicious and I shall have to think long and hard on what these ingots should be turned into. For I'll be taking some of them and having them fashioned into items for auction.

Even the claw preened on his shoulder.

I have been occupied of late with collecting legends for the Gala -- the stories of heroes more and less well known are fascinating, and it has inspired me to research even further into some of these inspiring figures. I am excited to see what I shall find next.

For anyone on the fence about whether to attend this event or not, I urge you to go; you will not be disappointed. Without a doubt, it will be a night to remember.

I have been very fortunate to have been kept very busy this week! My birthday was amazing, as I'm sure I have posted before! Princess Tikva gave me an amazing tiara that makes it look like I have stars in my hair and Prince Niklas is getting annoyed I don't even want to take it off to sleep! I then attended the Explorer's water gauntlet, which turned out to be a terrible mistake! Please don't get the wrong idea, gentle reader, for the event itself was very well put together and people were certainly having a lot of fun climbing and falling from the rigging, but my inability to be on a ship without being ill coupled with this all day sickness was not the best choice I ever made and I spent most of the time below decks until we were on blessed land again. Still, the company was quite good and Princess Alarissa was a gracious, understanding hostess who made sure I was as comfortable as I possibly could be while vomiting profusely into a bucket!

Then I attended the opening of Duke Harlan and Lady Olivia's Orangery and I was completely astounded at how many different types of flowers and plants Lady Olivia has managed to cultivate! The whole thing was very impressive and the people at the part were absolutely delightful! We played a card game provided by Master Saedrus, who had done the lovely illustrations all himself, which got everyone chatting and getting to know one another and it was truly a wonderful night!

And then last night was the first night of the Tournament of Swords and it was absolutely glorious! There were many games, lots of winners, and I think everyone will be telling the tale of that second song the Nightingale sung for weeks to come! I remain impressed by those who competed in the swimming competition--not one person turned to ice, which speaks to their great fortitude!

Tonight is the last night of the Tournament of Swords and there is to be jousting and a melee and an archery contest! So I do hope that everyone shows up! Come to play or come to watch and mingle! It is sure to be a night to remember!
