Relationship Note on Snow

Master Foxpaw is a curious young man who promised to create a fragrance that would be most suited to me. I agreed to this, though the whole idea had slipped my mind. Then a bottle arrived filled with a lovely whisper of a scent.

He does splendid work and I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes overworked with the number of requests that he'll be receiving.

Now, I will record one more thing here for posterity. There has been a great deal of hand-wringing and bickering here in the whites (nothing unusual about that) about Mirrormasks and worship of the Thirteenth. Particularly among Oathlanders, who seem to wish worship of the Thirteenth would be swept under the rug or only done in dark closets where no one else has to see it or something. I am from Lenosia. The Pantheon I pay my devotion to includes the Thirteenth. Not above all others, but I have been known to enjoy the Mirror's Masquerade as much as any other Lycene prince.

But I'm no fool, not to recognize that this debate happens just as my brother, a Mirrormask, joins an Oathlander house. I wonder if some of those who protest the most loudly haven't even spoken to someone who honors the Thirteenth. I would encourage those who frown or look askance at our traditions to approach the issue with open minds and hearts. Perhaps speak to a Legate or Archlector about it. We who claim to be civilized all worship the Panetheon across Arvum. No one should be criticized for honoring the Thirteenth, any more than someone who performs a rite honoring Gloria instead of Gild, or Jayus instead of Limerance. Let's all practice a little more kindness and tolerance here, in the whites and in our daily lives.

Mistress Lottie says her drains are clogged. It might be the lichen. I am going to find that lichen.

Relationship Note on Alessandro

Last night I attended the wedding reception of my dear brother Alessandro and the lovely Lady Margret at the Greenmarch Lodge. Of course the party, which I am told was planned entirely by Lady Margret, was amazing fun. I had not ever thought to ice skate at a wedding reception, but I have to admit the skating was fun, even if I was entirely terrible at it. It was my first time meeting many of the Greenmarches, and I must say they are delightful and welcoming people. If I had to lose my brother to any family, I feel lucky it was them. They were very kind to me and to Princess Gwenna, who did me the honor of accompanying me to the party. We both said that we should visit them on a quieter evening, perhaps to check out their famed hot springs. Also, the moment I stepped out into the street to depart, I realized I forgot to ask anyone about the legendary war elks! Yet another reason to visit again.

It is both exciting and maddening to be close to uncovering information you have been chasing after for some time. It's like stretching for an itch in the middle of your back -- if only you could just reach it!

Hopefully: scratching it will provide relief and not just make it itch more.

I know I am supposed to be offended by this, but I found it quite entertaining. Especially from a man who can't even throw a snowball.

Thank you, Master Voss.

Thoughts from the latest Journal Day:

To dine at Academy Hall,
one needs be a student; that's all.
But to listen to Leary
will make one quite bleary,
And thus do I write to forestall.

Marquis Leary, I await the riposte. Make it worth the read.

Relationship Note on Norwood

As sure as Sir Norwood Clement is one of the most dutiful and capable men I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing take to the field of battle, so too is Marie the finest cook I have ever had the pleasure of dining under. I second this honorable man's assessment of her skill in the kitchen. No matter the day, I am made whole once more after she feeds me.

I could go on and on, but I won't, for the sake of saving myself some embarrassment.

I am sure that this will upset someone, but I freely assert that the Keaton chef Marie is the most talented cook in all of Arx.

My favorite part about coming home after a long, hard day's work is settling down for a good, hearty meal. That's it, nothing controversial to report. Although I do believe I am becoming quite the chef.

There is something to be said for having your family close to you, people you can depend on, that you can trust, even when the enemies of the Compact seem to be surfacing in greater numbers, as the world grows stranger and stranger than you ever could have imagined it is. That is saying something, considering how strange a place the world can feel, sometimes.

I count myself thankful for being a Keaton, for knowing the strong bonds of trust that are shared in this family.

Yes, there is something to be said for having your family close to you.

Let me preface this by saying, for those reading who are unaware, I am a Templar. A Godsworn priest and knight of the Faith. I have watched public worship of the Thirteenth, and no it is not to my liking. The questioning and introduction of doubt where none existed before, it is not the way I was raised to act and believe.

That said, the style of worship in parishes is up to Seraphs and their flock. For public order reasons I would tend to agree that it is immensely unwise to hold a Lycene-style rite to Tehom with all the cavorting and what not it entails in the middle of Sanctum. However, worship is a matter for the Faith. And I am quite certain Prince Edain has not outlawed anything to do with the Faith, because I would be getting missives from the Seraph of Sanctum for the Grandmaster.

Relationship Note on Marius

He received a missive? I do not understand how a missive to one person constitutes a fealty-wide ban of the Thirteenth's doctrines. Only the Faith may ban the worship of one of the Thirteen gods of the pantheon, and I have not seen any announcements from the Dominus stating that adherence to the doctrines of the Thirteenth have been officially banned anywhere.

If it has been banned in the Oathlands, I would think there would be a more public proclamation posted somewhere, either from the Faith, or the High Lord in question. But correct me if I'm wrong.

Relationship Note on Aleksei

I'm impressed that he managed to hold a quill long enough to opine considering how much he's getting pinned down and slobbered on. I'm pretty sure even if Aleksei's knees work correctly again, Peanut isn't letting him out of bed anytime soon. Those of you who know this little household know that Peanut is generally a pretty happy dog, but I invite you to imagine the transports of delight he went into when his master returned after his long absence.

If it doesn't improve your day, I'm not sure you have a heart.

Worship of Tehom is not banned in any parts of the Compact. There are people who wish that it was banned and people who choose to not partake in the worship. But it is not banned. If you received a missive stating something to the opposite, I would like to think that it was poorly worded one and/or that was misread.

All this talk about the Dominus' proclamation. Don't have that much to say about it, except that you shouldn't take a door slamming shut in your face as being locked out of an opprotunity completely. There's always a window, or a hole in the roof, or a back entrance somewhere. You just got to get creative with it.
