Ah, I thought you meant conformity as in conformity with the Faith, conformity of worship. Now I understand your meaning. Still, I do not think I have argued for a bland acceptance of the world as it is or that following the crowd being a virtue either. So I am unsure of the point.

I'll admit that I haven't searched the archives for every entry between yourself and Shard. That said, I think the point being made is that some choices are not choices at all but the will of another being forced on you. And that for a great many Abandoned tribes, this is their view of the Compact.
There's been centuries of conflict, that we are where we are isn't surprising. And that someone would take advantage of those fissures isn't either.
I was there with Shard when she met that family in the Gray Forest. We saw other dark things along the way. But this was the worst without a doubt. It's the kind of thing that creeps on you throughout the day, constantly reminding you of its profound horror.
They were told they had choices too, but the loss of everything, one way or another isn't a choice.
I think I really went off the point I was trying to make. This is why I don't write long shit like this in the whites.

The auction went well. I had hoped for more people to show up so I could reveal my winter plans to them, but this will have to do. Selling the lots was more important than attracting a giant crowd, and I accomplished that, at least. If people want to help, they'll help. I'm content with doing whatever I'm able to do.

I don't need a lecture about how life is cruel or unfair, or how choices can be lopsided, or how actions have consequences. We're both adults, we're both well aware of all of that for our own personal reasons. But there's a difference between life shaking out as it will, between the consequences of personal choices, and people with a great deal of power using those realities as an excuse to ignore how inconvenient, or uncomfortable, Skald can be, for the sake of stepping all over the freedoms and choices of other people.
Let me be blunter; the family I met in the Gray Forest worshiped the Enslaver and saw the Horned One as a savior for all peoples everywhere, because they had no ability to think anything differently, any more than they could think differently from each other. They were the perfect example of conformity that no one, anywhere, should ever want to be like, no matter how happy they seemed. It was one of the creepiest fucking things I've ever witnessed, and I've seen some damn creepy shit.

So, the dedication has been done for the Mausoleum of the Faith Militant. Its ground consecrated to hold the revered fallen of not just the Templars and the Knights of Solace, but the Mercies who fall in battle, those sworn knights who fell at Stormwall and Setarco and those sworn knights who will fall in the future fighting alongside us.
The complex is all we had hoped, with the white marble and gold, and it sits at the heart of the Faith's history, at Sanctum. I cannot thank Dame Thena, Father Orazio and Prince Edain enough, along with Cybele of the Mercies, Princess Alarissa and Prince Victus. I have chosen the first guards for the complex, drawing Godsworn from all of the fealties, from Sanctum itself, but also from Maelstrom, from Setarco, from Farhaven, from Bastion and from Arx. It seems right the first guards should come from the capitals of the fealties, and of the Compact. For those that wish to visit it, a special waystation has been built for Dame Thena's Knights of Solace so pilgrims can be assured of safety on the roads.
Now that the past is honoured, and our fallen interred, so we can look to the future of the order. To returning to our strength and preserving the Faith from all threats.

You mistake a statement of reality for a statement of approval. I do not like that the world is unfair, but it is - and sometimes your choice is down to how you will die, or between which unhappiness you might have. Yet, often that itself is driven by choices you took, perhaps without thinking, even if the consequences were lopsided. The choice to go left or right in a road, the choice to join a warband or not, the choice to answer the call to arms or forsake your oath. The world is cruel and unkind, and screaming that Skald promised choice will not mean you get to also pick what those choices are. And remember that maximum choice for one person might mean curtailing the choices of many others, removing their agency. Because none of us live in isolation from the world, from our peers. That is why we each take such avid interest in one another, and why the harm one does ripples through society.
As for the question posed: If this family lives in compliance, and are happy, then I am unsure why I should not be content with that? I am also unsure why, if they are happy, the should want or care for my approval or endorsement. That right to live in compliance in Redrain lands for those who integrate Shamanist ways into their worship of the Pantheon is granted by treaty. If I may answer what I think your real question is: Do I /like/ shamanist practice? No. I find it odd and unfamiliar, for these ways to be alongside the things I find so familiar in the worship of the pantheon is unsettling as it would be to see a cat riding a horse. But. I also guard the lives of Mirrormasks, and Tehomic shrines, and I do not find comfort in the public worship of Tehom in the Grayson or Lycene style either - I find it unpleasant, that public doubt. That does not mean it is not true worship, and Prince Talen and I have debated before the difference in these things. He finds himself closer to the Gods in worshipping as he does, and I can like and be happy for him in that even if it is a path I myself would never wish to take.
There are several paths to the Gods within the forest of the Faith, and everyone has their preferred way - the path in their eyes that is most beautiful. Providing people do not stray outside of the forest, they do not abandon the ways of the Faith to seek answers without guidance or protection, then I am more than happy to live with that diversity of opinion.

I've returned after a long absence and a time of self reflection. So much seems changed, and yet so much is exactly as I recall. Perhaps it is not my home that has changed, but rather me. It will take some time yet for me to fully take up the remnants of my old life, but I feel confident I will find a place here. As I told Cybele, from teacher, to student, in an ever-changing spiral. But I am getting ahead of myself. I met one of the Shaman today, one Cybele. They seem much more outgoing than I think I could ever be. And yet there is a warmth about them, too, like the warmth of good drink, or a harthfire. I feel there is much I may learn from them, and perhaps help I might offer them as well.
