That is what we strive for, that is what we sacrifice for, the belief that despite the horrible things that have befallen us and the terrible prices we have paid, we believe we will find it. Our new ward is wonderful, our people and especially Eshra outdid themselves.
What we find is our culture blending with that of the city, and though we all miss Riva, we are settling quite well. We will have our peace, and we will also stand for the Compact when needed, Rivenshari will render respect where it is deserved, and there are many within this city who are deserving.

You know my fellow common folk like to chide the peerage about their responsibilities but the truth is, and I guess that's why I write this, for the historical record. The truth is it is a burden. Got a mate who's not going to marry his love because of it. Some guy accuses another guy of taking his goat or something and then a noble has to sit and hear them and decide. Who wants to answer so many questions? And people always trying to scam you, take advantage of you, insult your house. They can have it I say.

I sit here on this fine evening, enjoying a smoke and looking out over the Rivenshari expanse, I find my thoughts drifting to the river and the life we used to lead upon it. It was only a few years ago but it seems like a dream -- and like all dreams, the memory of it is slipping away no matter how tightly I attempt to hold onto it.
My husband.
My child.
I still see their faces but I can no longer recall their voices. I dread to think what I will forget next.
But we are forging a life here and we despite all we have been through, we -- the survivors -- stand proud. I cherish the family I have left and I will protect them until my dying breath. The Rivenshari will be strong again.

Know that one thousand and eight years have passed since the Reckoning. Today is the twelfth day of the tenth month. I am writing from the city of Arx, in the small room I can afford at the Badger Boarding House, in the Ward of House Grayson. I am Candace Corvo, former sellsword and current proprietor of The Bakery, and this is my white journal.
Count Amadeo's cake is complete and I have sent a messenger to ask him for the disposition of the pastry. I hope it is well received.
I watched the sellswords ply their trade in the market square today. I needed to take a break from the day's baking, so I took a roll with me and ventured to the butchers for a cut of the corned beef he has been selling this week. It was a satisfactory sandwich.
I miss it. The fighting. The adventuring. But what I don't miss is the loss. I have offered a modest discount to the Crimson Blades, Society of Explorers, and Valorous Few, because I understand all too well that small luxuries and respect make the life a little more bearable.

Let the record reflect that an extremely pregnant wife can still scale a rigging quite swiftly. I am still in shock that at the Sailor's ball my wife put everyone but Felicia to shame as far along as she is with child, should I have stopped her? Well...I already kept her from doing other things, and someone as strong, beautiful and smart as she knows her limits better than I.
I think I shall now have the entire military doing climbing drills, myself included!
