So many wrong things said to me.

So many things that are twisted.

Children of Sun and Moon are no threat to the Compact. They live very very very far away. Must go past many /other/ tribes of Abandoned to even reach the ranges of Children of Sun and Moon.

Why make comment at all? Why make threat?

Then misread what I write. Threaten me more with your 'choices' as if it is /I/ who am in the wrong when your own holy warriors make excuse to force horrible choices on people who do you know wrong.

And /I/ am at fault?

Your life in Arx doesn’t surprise me at all. You’re still the same rock. Whatever needs doing, you’re always there! I missed you terribly and am so happy to have you around again!

I'm not even pregnant and I feel as if I could put away a plate of fried potatoes with goat cheese and plum preserves.

I really have been out of touch with food for too long.

I just stopped in to copy down a few missives for posterity's sake, and now I'm hungry.

The objective truth of any given answer is not necessarily relevant. We learn either way. Not simply of the other's trustworthiness, but more importantly what they choose to show, how they wish to present themselves. That is telling in and of itself. We don't always lie to deceive. Sometimes, a lie is a hope, a belief that we might, for a moment, be something other than we are. Let people be as they desire to be seen. There is always a truth in that.

It is perhaps not the questions that are asked that matters as much as the honesty in which the other answers, is it not?

Any answer given honestly and thoughtfully, as in, beyond simplest terms, is quite revealing, whether the question be - what is your favorite food? - or - What are your thoughts on faith in regards to the Pantheon and that of Spirits?

However, if the answer given is misleading or, well, a straight out lie... well, it can still reveal a few things, but mostly that the person is untrustworthy, does not trust you, or is hiding something... or possibly all of the above.

Well, that's convenient. You could make an argument for just about anything using that, and say that Skald actually supported it. You could say that it's a choice to live in slavery or die, so anything short of enslaving the mind is perfectly fine and should be legal. You can impose any restrictions on someone else and say 'I'm not actually going against Skald's wishes, I'm just giving you /different/ choices'.

I met a family that lived in perfect conformity a few weeks back. They were so in tune with each other that not only could they finish each other's sentences, they could speak for each other, and do each other's work without exchanging a single word. They were so similar, they didn't even have names to tell each other apart. They seemed very happy. They claimed that living like they did involved no pain and no strife. I suppose you can't argue that the group they're a part of is weak. And yet, somehow, I suspect you'd disapprove of who they worshiped.

I cannot claim credit for this marvel, however:

A bacon wrapped pickle. I was given this at a meeting held by my cousin, Princess Sophie, Mother Mercy. I do not know where she came up with this culinary delight, but I can tell you. It was salted heaven. Anchovies and blueberries on crackers. Fried potatoes and goats cheese with plum preserves.

Normally I have quite the sweet tooth, but when I am pregnant all I want is salt.

Once, I was in my garden working in the flower beds and the smell of the dirt, that rich, loamy scent of fertile soil made my mouth water. I did not eat it. I thought about it. But I certainly considered it.

I once had a pregnant patient tell me she ate a whole block of clay. She had some impaction issues that she needed treatment for. Figs. Lots and lots of figs.

Dear Mom,

Hopefully the letters that I have been sending are making it back to Leaholdt safely, and I hope that you - and father - and especially Cady are doing well. I look forward to showing Arcadia all of the places that I have discovered in the city so far. She might even like some of them too. Like the Charter Hall of the Society of Explorers. That's where I met my patron Pathfinder Lou (or just Lou) for the first time. She would probably make a very good Explorers. But, you know, I wouldn't want to worry you. I'm not one. (YET. I will be.)

You know, it was a very busy week. I met several more important people that spoke to me and the conversation was pleasant. I attended a couple of parties that were almost pleasant. I am working on a design (and treatment) of a few bolts of umbra fabric that I will eventually have made into a dress for higher-end occasions, such as balls, although I hope that I am not expected to wear slippers - I do prefer my boots for safety purposes. Although you were worried that the steel cap would curl in and cut off my toes if I dropped my jeweler's anvil on my foot -- and I showed you that that was a falsehood -- do you remember? It made the best ringing clang.

(I don't think that I need to remind her about the further testing I did.)

OH! Before I forget, Mom, if you could send me the taxidermy and clockwork sparrow that I made? -- Yes, that one. Yes, the one that made you faint. I think I still have the key with me, and I think I can fix it so that it can move a little more smoothly. I am still sorry about the head, Mom. But you also helped me test out my new alchemical smelling salts, so it wasn't all bad, was it? All for science.

I'll write again soon.

Always,

Elly

That's why I'm coming down for a drink!

I can be a fucking idiot about a lot of other things, though. But I'm very serious about my drinking. And I missed the last drinking and darts night, which means I owe the place a visit.

Someone save me a seat. I just have to get my post-morning nap in, first.

I'm craving a damn sandwich. Heaped with meat and cheese and spreads topped with crisp bacon. And maybe some red and green stuff thrown in for 'healthy' sake. I'm blaming the baby for weird cravings at odd hours. Like egg salad. I can't stand the texture but this kid seems to love it.

So I wonder what's the weirdest thing any of the other preggo ladies of Arx have ever craved. So far I think mine is sugar-donuts dipped in mustard.

A filled, up to date archive is a happy archive.

Research goes well, otherwise. Though I'm starting to understand the plights of those who've never enough time to do everything they wish to do.

Sadly, information about King Alaric the Third remains elusive. Might need to handle that myself, soon...

Nearly every day someone dear to me asks 'How are your plans for your tavern coming along'? Or 'What will you name it?' Gild be good, but those are such hard questions to answer. So I'll answer here and let the Whites record my exciting endeavors.

I want it somewhere in the Crown district, which makes it trickier as I'd likely need a noble sponsor to intervene with the Crown for the rights to lease the land. And seeing as there's nowhere near there to stay I know of, I'd likely want it near the Cathedral and the Shrines, for those making pilgrimages or seeking somewhere peaceful and quiet to stay but with the comforts of a simple country inn.

I want a garden patio with a little fountain, and a cowshed with a dairy and a little vegetable garden. And I'd want it two stories, so I can sleep above it and have nice cozy rooms for guests to rent. A kitchen. A large pantry with a water-sink to keep things cool. And then a nice big common room with a bar and cozy tables and perhaps a fireplace with couches nearby.

It's a -lot-. So the funding to start such a thing will take quite some time to put together on a simple barmaid's salary. I suppose I could gather investors but I'd hate to be obligated to somebody.

As for a name? Perhaps Gods' Grace, or Country Hearth. Either sounds absolutely dreamy.

It is my firm belief that Death adores both rainbows and jingling bells. The darkness we cover Her in (that She covers herself in?) is to only better allow the colors of this world to compliment Her.

Of course, I am no Godsworn, nor am I Death's Voice. But I stand behind my belief!

Relationship Note on Cleo

I do not know you, but I see the ripples you cause. I hope you will, should you see this entry, take it in the spirit of advice from a watcher - for I hold no malice.

Choice is a very fine and delicate thing. Sadly you do not get to pick which outcomes one must choose from, life and the world and the actions of the past determine this. Sometimes your choice is only between how you will die, well or badly. Sometimes it is more meaningful, to lose as an honourable man or win as a monster, a tyrant as you say. Sometimes the choice is stark. To bend the knee and cease to be a threat, or to accept the consequences of hostility, and thus, accept the return of your soul to the wheel.

Skald says we shall have choice, he does not say those choices must be easy, or they are fair. Remember though, those in Redrain who chastise, they themselves made a choice some time back to bend the knee, to join the compact and to sign a treaty with the Faith that holds them responsible for their shamanic populations, that they must worship and integrate that worship to the pantheon. Lord Arik joins that responsibility. And it is a heavy one. For no House ever wishes to break a treaty with the Faith, or allow for those below them to do so on their behalf. So if you feel others are zealous in their enforcement of conformity, understand that they are obeying obligations undertaken long ago. Obligations that are important to ensure the strength of the Compact, and the safety of her citizens. One of which is yourself.

Nothing is quite the pick-me-up after a divorce like chasing nobility out of the Murder of Crows. If you want to be treated well, go drink somewhere else. I don't care if I hurt your precious feelings. Commoners have to play the part everywhere else. It's not exactly something we enjoy.

If you're a noble and you come into the Murder of Crows thinking that an attitude and some sharp words will protect you, prepare to be scorned. There are dozens of drinking holes around the city, but this one is ours.

And really, what business did a Malvici actually have down there in the Lowers anyhow? If it was shady Lycene business the mark was missed.

Not that I have a problem with the Lycene people in general. One of the crew on my ship is from Caith. We have a lot of mutual trust! At least, I think we do. I hope we do. He does always wait for me to eat first, now that I think about it.
