This has been an incredibley busy week but I am so proud of my husband for showing me what a capable Duke and leader he is. The cheers and praises from our staff seems to solidify how Inigo is so well received by our beloved Toreans.

I noticed this morning that I'm not able to see my toes. I can still feel them when I wiggle my toes by there is nothing when I look down. All I see is my belly that is swollen with child.

It was lovely to have Princess Alarissa visit for tea again - Thrax is much stronger for her joining our ranks. She has brought a new perspective that is refreshing, and I am wish her and Prince Victus all the best.

The Lodge Rides.

You may be aware of the coming of the enemy. The Lodge will stand against it. We offer sanctuary to all who flee them as they come. Some will be strange. Remember, hospitality is a virtue of Petrichor, and show courtasy. Some of you will be moving out to fight; I ask you to lead folk well, for those who come to aid us may be less used to the forest than we. Many in the city think well of the Forest Lord.

We must show them our worth.

So many beautiful things were displayed in honor of Gild and the Knights of the Solace. Even a chair. I confess to not fully appreciating it until I sat in it, but now quite understand why a knight would want one on the road. Of course, there were also works honoring valor and sacrifice and protection of the weak from war and strife, not just chairs. The strength of Gild's charity and structure of civilization was a virtue I confess I did not fully appreciate until coming to this city, where needs are so great and the protection those structure provide so vital. All honors to Dame Thena and Whisper Saedrus for putting together this beautiful exhibit.

In one of my texts, I have stumbled across an intriguing alchemical process -- of producing an oil extraction from such minerals such as quartz -- that has left me wondering over the practical purposes of such a thing. Perhaps in less traditional perfume applications. I'll need to experiment.

Relationship Note on Aislin

I find that I'm seriously enjoying my discussions with the Lady Explorer. She has a certain eagerness to explore and to share information that is familiar to me, in a way, and certainly helpful in my studies.

When Crownbreaker occured, the Faith were killed. And in that moment of weakness, a false Dominus elected because we could not resist the pressure. That is a past the Templars will never see repeated, never again allow us to fall to outside pressure. That said, it does not mean we should reject ideas just because they come outside, or not to listen to voices from outside the faith. We should consider all those things. But, we must find solutions that first work for the Faith and the Faithful. And show those temporal powers what friendship with us can mean.

Inadvertently, children, I have found a way to bring together three great northern houses; house Halfshav, House Sanna, and House Nightgold through trade and development. Never had I thought that working as minister would have afforded me such an opportunity. That is what Arx is. You may at first feel betrayed that you are being sent far away from home but trust me, like in the woods and the mountains, Arx is where houses are created and you should always strive for more than you deserve. Come to Arx, find your cousins, have them introduce you to their cousins, and so on. Always write home, especially to your grandmother. Take a class or two. You will never have another opportunity like this one to meet people of other backgrounds with skills naturally unavailable to you.

From love,
Your father.

Things I've learned the last few days:
1. I tend to procrastinate making Journal entries.
2. King Alaric has a greater capacity for alcohol than I. At least I had the common sense to stop before saying or doing something would regret later. Staggering would have been so very ungraceful.
3. Romantic rose gardens sometimes inspire sad songs instead.
4. Merry tunes please the spirits, or so I have been told.
5. Marquessa Cambria's cheeses pair very well with Granato wines.

Relationship Note on Tessa

I want to say how incredibly proud I am of my vassal Lady Tessa Moore. Her goals are inspiring and her vision is something I very much look forward to assisting her see to fruition. The gods are truly wondrous, and the way they work to set us all on our path... Lately I have been struggling, but when I look at this and I think of how difficult things had been, and now, through the efforts of the gods and those of their devoted... I am awed.

Apologies for any vagueness, I simply must take care not to steal any of the Lady Moore's thunder when she reveals her efforts to the world.

To the Faithful Reader:

Every once in a while, I am reminded of how tremendously lucky the Faith is for the quality and competence of the people it attracts, from disciples to godsworn, all the way up to our Archlectors. Events like the recent art shows give me the opportunity to see our people at work - which is, one might be surprised to learn, not something I often have the opportunity to do as Legate. While an art show is not the battlefield, the pride taken in the work is obvious.

In other news, we have welcomed two more godsworn to the Faith - Brother Driskell and Dame Vesper - and I have every confidence in their success.

I am happy to report that in the span of a month not one, but two of my cousins have made the arduous journey from Ostria to Arx. Both Dianna and Vitalis are here, now - the latter of which I am sure brings a great deal of joy to Marshal Valerio's heart. They could not have timed their arrival any better, either. For as much as I am overjoyed simply to be surrounded by more of my family again, I cannot but admit that they are needed.

Relationship Note on Daemon

From the moment I first met Sir Daemon Dracone, I determined he was a knight I wished not only to know more about, but someone I believed I could empower. It took a few months, and perhaps what you'd even call a little adventure, but I have since extended the offer of patronage to Sir Daemon, and I am happy to write here that he accepted.

Once again, I have found myself acting as audience to the artists of Arx -- this time in the name of the Knights of Solace, their efforts organized by Dame Thena Grayhope and Master Saedrus Whisper.

And once again, the pieces were moving and meaningful, albeit in an entirely different way -- though as much should be expected, when considering the difference between the Kind Goddess and the First Choice.

So many of them conveyed the strength and determination that we -- each one of us, regardless of rank or station -- may find it within ourselves to dredge up in the face of the most impossible odds, when all seems hopeless. That, there, is the heart of valor. It is found not in the soldier who rushes headlong into battle without fear, but in the resolve of the warrior who, terrified in the face of the foe across the field from her, marches forward anyway. It is found in the ministrations of the healer who, despite a weariness that grinds into his bones and more heartbreak than many of us can imagine, taps the reserve of compassion necessary to continue on and tend one more, and one more, and one more. It may even be found in the darkened eyes of a child that goes hungry, so that their siblings may eat. True valor is sacrifice on behalf of another.
