The knight games ended with lovely ball. the dancers were amzing. I don't dance well but someone is teaching me. Perhaps someday I will wow a crowd'

The most recent shop gossip is about Fel and the question she put before the Assembly.
Most of what I've heard is mixed, but it would be: wagging fingers because we never speak of our family's past, doubt that we have any ties to nobility, jokes about not forgetting our friends and neighbors in the Lowers when we're elevated, irritation, well-meaning and on our behalf, I suppose, about the path being made so difficult as to be impossible.
What I've heard is most clearly and consistently is pride, though. I've heard so many variations of Marquessa Mia Riven's words about Felicia that I feel I can draw out most of the truth of them. That my sister has done so much to help others that the Marquessa would give Fel her time and would speak in her favor...

I heard about the decision at the assembly. Every bravo and fishmonger's wife is tittering about it as if it makes any true difference.
I actually don't think anything has changed. Other than it will take a little longer for those who have friends in high places to be elevated, it's always been this way. The only thing different is that they're just stating it openly. I actually don't mind the clarity.
Though, I suppose this means my lofty dreams of lady-shipping are lost. Whatever shall I do?
Honestly, I was never under the misguided assumption that a commoner like me would ever be so loftily placed for all my childhood daydreaming. I am what I am and I like it that way.
And, why should I not? I'm one of the illustrious and fiery Queens of the Lowers. Our numbers are many. Each lass a fierce and formidable, glorious example of our own nobility in their own way. We've got dozens down here and we don't need some silk's approval to affirm our position or passions.
So, I don't know what the whining is about. We all know that most of us are not marked for that. So, let's just get on with living our lives and doing the best we can to do right by our own just as we've always done.

I do not know precisely what it is about Lord Eurion that I find most aggravating. But there is something. I can't quite put my finger on it.
I think he thinks he's too charming and handsome and therefore I should find him amusing.
I do not find him completely unamusing. He has his moments, I suppose.

My second Assembly of Peers as Voice of Pravus in as many months.
I am pleased to say that the proposal put forward by Pravus seems to have been accepted by the other Great Houses without too much contrarian sentiment - that we are asking for a pause on matters rather than insisting upon a change of law to require such certainly helps. It is good to see that we can work together and find common ground as befits our Compact, with larger struggles waiting for us on the periphery, while still allowing for those who /do/ rise to the level of meriting such an honour still being able to pursue it.
We are, as a Compact, stronger when each of us understands, and accepts to uphold, the burdens placed upon us.

Been a nice, social week! I went to Mockingbird Nina's lovely singing lessons. I do apologize to everyone, I had a small break down. All good now! No more smashed lutes in the near future, or far future either, hopefully. I best not make any too large promises. Who knows when a bard needs to smash his lute on something, after all?
Went to Lady Medeia's and Cesare Whispers LOVELY birthday party, brought some gifts even. It was VERY nice, with a few grumbly discontents around and this mysterious woman who I am sure to not forget any time soon.

I am excited about the Beggar's Ball coming up! The Bard's College even contacted me asking to play! Oh, I do hope they show up! That would be amazing! I have this old fox mask that I have never used. I decided to make the party a masked one so I could use it! Now, I should go on a fox hunt to get a tail to wear at the party. If this is a success, I will do this as a regular event! Honestly, I think there should be more commoner events. People tend to look to me to make it happen though. I get tired! But, that's ok. It's part of being on the Council I suppose!

Family. It is not about bloodlines. Sure, there is that undeniable connection that will /always/ be there when one speaks of bloodlines. But, bloodlines do not make a family. What makes a family? It's the bond between people who have each other's backs during their most trying times. It's the shared laughter at the meal table over some old joke that outsiders would never get. It's that bond that makes people share tears when someone's heart is broken. THAT is family. Cullers understand that. Most of us do not share any sort of bloodline with each other. But, we are family. We do not see each other any other way.

What's love got to do with any of this? My answer is: Everything. What is a marriage without love? Bondage. It is bondage especially if you cannot break free of it. They use the word 'responsibility' and 'sacrifice'. See, this is why I turned down nobility not just once, but TWICE! It's a trap I tell you. I love being a commoner.

The idea is absurd that a head of house in their own right might suffer punitive action on behalf of the rest of the peerage for activities concerning their own lands. If you disagree with the politics of a particular house, speak with your trade agreements. Let them feel your disapproval. Let their allies feel your disapproval. Hire the Whispers to foster understanding and navigate difficult social terrain. To do anything more would set a dangerous precedent regarding the autonomy of our rulers.

When I became a Duchess-Consort of Westrock Reach, I figured that I would have to deal with sensitive diplomatic issues at some point. I never realized that those sensitive diplomatic issues would be between my own children. I have tried to teach my daughter, and heir to the duchy, that just because she is upset with her younger brother she cannot simply turn her back on him. As the future Duchess of Westrock Reach she must, at times, put aside her own feelings-- good or bad ones --to support her family and her house. This is the duty of a noble. Sometimes we are not our own people.
Of course, we always have a choice. She could, of course, set aside her noble titles and forsake her oaths for the freedom to do as she pleases. Still, I advised her that giving up her nobility because she was upset with her brother for ruining her favorite coat was perhaps a touch overdramatic.
She's a smart girl and agreed.

Just wait until autumn, and in the right forest, your cloak will blend in. In other seasons, though, I won't be offended if you take off the cloak when you need to. Also. The cloak you made me is beautiful, I love it, and it will be brought out as often as I can manage to be worn and fussed over.
