Took the fine shipbuilders of Southport to see it done but, with great pleasure, word has been sent that the "Heart of Wander" has been completed.

Now to ready it, and with others, for a trip either down to the Suthyrn Reaches or to the Everwinter. Depending on if it is I or Lady Kaia deciding first.

I have spent the evening in the shrine at house Thrax. An invitation from Her Highness, princess Alarissa. It has been some time since I have fasted and spent an evening in prayer. I always forget the clarity that it brings. For the first time in a long time I feel peace. The undertow of emotions and worries that have sat upon me for sometime seem to disappear and I can see a way through the fog. Perhaps the thirteen days will bring about a new me.

I miss working the forge. My knowledge has likely dwindled in the - oh, eight years it's been since I last swung a hammer at steel in earnest, but I bet I can heft the hammer quite a bit better know than when I was a gawky stick of a thing.

I keep telling myself to try to get back into it, but... well.

So it goes.

Grandchildren,

Peace is something never given, but earned. Remember in your wars and battles that blood and lives pay for the amount of peace you want. The longer you wish for peace, the better you should train for and carry out war.

For there's always a monster that lurks in the deep that wishes to crush your boat and send you to the dark depths below. Only fools think everything calm on the surface means there's no currents below.

It has perhaps been too long since I have fasted. But in conversation with the Blessed Avary, I agreed to her request. A breaking of the fast permitted in the evening, after sundown. As a household we are observing such, and Lady Azova and Donella were passing through the estate and heard word and have committed to joining in prayer and fasting for thirteen day’s. Even Victus joins in. Astrid wants to but she is too young. Though we sat and compromised and her own food will be simpler. With instructions that should she wish to cease at any time, that is fine. Her desire to join is well enough for me. Though I wonder if it is more her need to emulate those around her and partake is the ongoing of adults moreso than a true desire to be closer to the faith. Or just capriciousness. I never know. We will let her partake in a fashion till her little five year old mind can bear it no longer. Three days I would imagine.

A war must be regarded not as separate battles of which it is composed, but as a chain of linked engagements each leading to the next. If we succumb to the idea that the capture of certain geographical points or the seizure of undefended provinces are of value in themselves, we are liable to regard them as windfall profits. In so doing, and in ignoring the fact that they are links in a continuous chain of events, we also ignore the possibility that their possession may later lead to definite disadvantages. And in war the advantages and disadvantages of a single action could only be determined by the final balance.

Of all things, the moral elements are among the most important in war. They constitute the spirit that permeates war as a whole, and at an early stage they establish a close affinity with the will that moves and leads a whole mass of force. Unfortunately they will not yield to academic wisdom: they cannot be classified or counted, and they have to be seen or felt. Yet it is paltry philosophy if in the old-fashioned way one lays down rules and principles in total disregard of moral values, for as these appear one regards them as exceptions; however, if one appeals to genius, which is above all rules, then one must admit rules are not only made for idiots, but are idiotic in themselves.

Attended Feast of Remembrance last eve. I enjoyed the idea, of bringing a loved ones favorite dish and sharing a memory. I naturally shared one about my father. It was also enjoyable to listen to others as well.

Also. I'm sorry for whomever's clothes I ruined. Sorry about that red wine incident. It just kind of spewed out of my mouth. Literally.

I wonder how the public perception on the topic of the improbable has shifted after witnessing Prince Cerdic's ship going around soaring over the Thraxian ward. I've tried asking around but, it almost feels as if when a Prince of Valardin brings up the topic it almost always turns towards the polite and least scandalous.

I'd just like to know how the thing, against all conventional understanding, flies as it does.

It feels as if adversity has dissolved my mortal psyche and opened my skull to "The Truth" just by looking northeast at the wrong time.

It's been a busy week! I've met new faces and said hello to old friends.

I did run into Bree earlier this week - she is as chipper as ever! And has grown in skill as a Knight - she does Harthall proud. But I do wonder if I'm going to have a cousin-in-law sooner than I ever expected!

I also managed to spend some time with my dear friend Adelyn; now only to meet her new husband.

I attended a dinner last night with Princess Sabella Grayson acting as host, with the promise of other Eurus in attendance. While Prince Kenjay was unable to join me, I was pleased to meet several nationals from my homeland, just as the Princess promised there would be, as well as other prestigious Graysons.

The food was wonderful. I brought a dish of my own, and with the combined flavors of both traditional Arvani and Eurus to be had, it was a night of much flavor.

And conversation! I learned much and shared more, and while I was told the Crown Prince and the King of Arx himself had been invited and subsequently unable to join us, I still had a wonderful evening full of companionship, story, and shared information.

Another bit of progress towards an alliance that I hope is as fruitful as it is promising. It is good work we do.

In the world of small triumphs, I am pleased to declare that I can nearly plate food on my own, even if unfamiliar with the dish. It was only a little messy this last time. I will get better.

Relationship Note on Apollo

Enjoyed an evening on the Judgment Green hosted by the Princess-Consort of Maelstrom. Though I missed most of the games, I had the good fortune to win a tapestry painted by Apollo Oakwood. Both the subject and the presentation are exquisite, and among the priceless treasures found in the palazzo, it will stand out as a masterpiece.

Relationship Note on Talia

Although I still have reservations about the sigil our house inherited, I have to admit that she captured our juxta-contrast-ition perfectly. It's beautiful.. yet, a little hard to look at! I wonder how long it'll be before ALL houses are scrambling to have a Talia Baseborn original on display in their Great Halls, too. It's THE new status symbol.

Relationship Note on Bree

Imagine my surprise when I found out Dame Harthall had expressed wishes in the whites that I take a rather memorable merchant's son for a squire. I don't think she realizes that I already have a follower, and she does not. I wager that I would be more apt at enduring talk of finances than she would be. Perhaps I should send her a little test of patience just to prove my point. I do hope the lad is amenable to the idea.

Relationship Note on Kenna

It's hard to fathom the journey of a woman started out as the daughter of a common merchant family, toiling away in the Mercier wine mines, who followed her half-brother(scribbled out) uncle(crossed out) distantly-related-family-friend(big 'x' drawn over) her Silas into nobility. Then, despite not ever having been raised with the proper priorities in mind, rising to the station and marrying for duty over love. Were our roles reversed, I don't know that I'd have the strength of character. I mean, I probably would, though.

Really, I couldn't ask for a better friend to live several doors down the hall from me.

Relationship Note on Elora

I owe my wife's cousin a debt of gratitude. Although the outcome wasn't what was desired, her skills with animals have brought much needed clarity to a situation rife with uncertainty. It's also pretty convenient that she wasn't eaten. All-in-all a success!

It was both an honor and great pleasure to see my husband knighted at the Ceremony of Thanksgiving held by the Carnifex of the Faith, Sir Preston. It is scary to consider how close it came to Lorenzo not returning from the events at Sungreet. I am so proud of his accomplishments not only there, but also for House Redrain these past few years. To see one of his deeds recognized before a gathering in the Grand Cathedral is something I will never forget. How fortunate I am to get to call this amazing man my husband.

The words of those after the knighting about their experiences at Sungreet, and what they are grateful for, were humbling to hear - and yet they were also quite inspiring. I remain dedicated to fighting those who threaten us in whatever ways I might manage. As Sir Filshiar wrote in his own remembrance of the event, the blades of the North shall ever rise.

Knight Lieutenant Bree Harthall, Dame Emily Deepwood, Dame Icelyn Acheron, Sir Bhandn Yvar.

These brave knights are to be recognized for their bravery and skill in the face of those who would do travelers of Arx harm.

Each handled themselves excellently, protecting the charges without a single injury to the faithful. Mostly. Sir Bhandn's armor excluded.
