Eirlys
It would seem we have about two more months to go, and then we can met the baby. We have names picked out, so we are prepared there. There are times it is hard, I miss Eirlys. I admit she would be my first choice for the baby's Witness. I know she would love them just as much as we would, and they would be family, no if, ands, or buts about it. I admit I would love to name the baby Eirlys, if we have a girl. But I think perhaps something with Eirlys in the name would be better, to honor her, but also to give the baby their own name. I pray that she or he will be as brave, compassionate, loyal, and kind as Eirlys was.

With ship traffic from Arx's port limited, 'ware traveling the Great Road to get around the blockade. Any who know of the whirlpool will certainly also know that trade will be heavier along land routes until the strange... weather passes.

Some very pissed off sailors in the Murder this past week. A few fights and broken bottles, lots of booked rooms. And boredom. Lots and lots of boredom.
Take up some knitting, you scabbers' dogs. Crochet is good too.

The moment when all of your hard work has paid off. It was a long trip. There was rain. So much rain. Almost fell off a bridge, almost got eaten by wolves...Large large wolves. But--it was found, my focus for almost a year. And I owe thanks to the team of Messeres Thorn and Maeve, as well as auntie Eirene, Lord Vitalis, and Lady Kaia. It was treacherous, but fruitful! I rarely voice my excitedness in the journals, but I am now!
Now on to the next adventure. Getting it to thrive.

I promised not to say anything to anyone about -a thing-. So, I'm just going to vaguely (the horror) thank the person I talked to at the Pits the other day.
It was nice sharing a thing that I'd bottled up for so long, and it was nice sharing it with someone who could sympathize. I hope sharing your own woes with me helped, and I hope you find your little slice of happiness one day.
You deserve it. Few are as kind as you.
Do apologize less, though.

All this talk of demons, and monsters, and terrible things...no one has ever thought to ask: Where did the birds go?

I have a tendency to call the babies mutant tyrant gnomes to be funny to Svana. Yesterday she said they're not mutants to which I stated, "Fine, they're tyrant gnomes." Someone else happened to hear about the gnomes and mistook it as me knowing gnomes. It was hilarious but I best be careful if gnomes exist, they might take offense at the comparison.

Little cousin. One with the brains to his brother and eyes on the prize we both admire. Went by his shop today and it's looking great. Donatti name everywhere. They'll remember us for that cousin.

Well, the morning today was spent unloading a boat that I loaded that ended up turned back. It's like the day started itself all over again but backwards. Now hearing that since it didn't leave the docks far enough, it's not a different job? Not sure on that one.

I have arrived in the capital. It is my every intent to become indespensible to my house or a more notable faction, with a position well suited for my talents, and then find an appropriate bride to carry on the family name.

If you go far enough into the Everwinter, the seasons are strange. ...And there are seasons, though sometimes it's hard to tell them apart from each other. In the summer, the days get longer and longer, but far longer than they get down here, or even down near the Bonespire. They get so long that for at least one day, there's simply no night at all. It's damned hard to figure out when anything is; mostly we just knew to sleep when we were tired. We only spent a few winters that far north, only when we had to, because Winter itself rules there, and Winter is a king that has never known mercy. But in winter, the nights eat the day instead, getting longer and longer until the sun simply doesn't rise. That's when you huddle into as many furs as you have, you crowd around a fire and you hope that you have enough things to burn to last until light comes again. It's also good to hope nothing comes to eat you during that night, because everything is hungry in the Everwinter and a fire draws attention. It's not always enough to keep predators away.
It doesn't snow as much as you'd think, either. It's usually the wind biting at you and pulling the snow up with it. But when it does snow, it's a raging storm, and all you can do is try to hide from it. Only idiots stand outside when that happens. Those idiots turn blue and die.
You see the lights a lot more often in the Everwinter. They'll dance across the stars. We used to have a lot of stories about what the lights were, though I doubt any of them are actually true. But you never know. There are much stranger things in the North.

"My darkling love."
I found one of your letters today. The faintest of traces of your tobacco laced cologne wafted up from the page like a ghost appearing. Or, perhaps, a memory coming to life. I prefer the ghost analogy for you are haunting me lately.
I was your darkling love. It wasn't just that that is what you called me but because that's what we made each other.
I have known envy only once in my life, and it was watching you, with the utmost care, take my duchess' hand and place a kiss upon her palm. Never before nor since have I wanted something that someone else had.
I never asked what caused you to end your affair. I would like to say that I assumed it was why all relationships between commoners and nobles eventually end... But the truth is that I did not care.
I cared only that you would be mine. And, if I am being honest, I still don't care.
I know I said would I cut out your heart if you ever hurt me-- but it was a joke. I don't care where you have gotten off to. I care only to be your darkling love again.
Come home to me.

I met Lord Rysen's uncle today. He seems like the type of man who I ought to find some way to help but it's always difficult to find a way to really help people in a helpful way.

Perhaps we should introduce it as new distraction strategy for war.

Well, tonight is not at all how I imagined it would be! Snowball fights, and I was too dressed up to even participate.
If nothing else, I proved to myself that I'm capable of wearing a dress without much of anyone batting an eyelash.
... I suppose that will do.

Whirpools and rain in Winter....
Two years ago... or was it three, didn't we have funny colored snow?
Interesting.
Is this a pattern? Every other year, weirdness happens?

I am so glad so many came out to celebrate what makes Redrain, well, Redrain! The second running of the Tankard Run was a smashing success. We had quite a few runners and watching them make their way up and down the course was thrilling. In the end, High Lord Victus Thrax took first place followed by Lord Rysen Crovane in second, and the third-place spot taken up by the impressive Lady Katya Grimhall. Lady Katya is one to watch out for! I've not seen such spirit in someone not of the northlands in some time.
Of course, I can't go without thanking those tireless people who lent their aid to this year's Taste of Arx--Lord Rysen, Lady Brianna, and my beloved sister, Helena. Each made such wonderful contributions to the event, be it a game or just showcasing their talent. But on top of that, there was also my favorite cousin Gwenna who lent her aid in the form of adorable cow plushies! I am truly blessed to have such wonderful family and friends within the fealty.
It is my fondest hope that everyone left with pleasant memories and perhaps a new friend or two made. Princess Sabella was wise to want to put this on again, for it is important to be reminded of what makes this Compact so special. I look forward to passing on the baton to someone else if there is to be a third Taste of Arx, it'll be nice to see what someone else can do.
