Relationship Note on Verity

A hedonistic warzone made of cake.

(Delightful.)

If people are comparable to a food, Verity Lock is a raspberry cake. With lemon pie hidden inside. And the whole thing covered in icing.

I've never been an ambitious man, Scholar. It's hard to have dreams when every day is a struggle to survive - and if you don't have dreams you don't have anything people can use to destroy you with. But, just lately, my world has turned upside-down with things I never realised I wanted.

I always knew I wanted respect. Other than that, it was the little things that I craved. Being able to eat, having somewhere safe to sleep, getting a shirt that hadn't had too many former owners or picked up too many stains. The little things came, in time and with effort. But now some big things have come too, hot on each others' heels after very little changing for years.

A wife. I never knew I wanted a wife, but now I can't imagine life without her.
Status in the world outside the Lowers. One or two important people know my name, and seem willing to tolerate my presence, even ask my advice.
Respect. Real respect from those around me, from those who share my world and understand the path I walk.

It is so very strange, and yet not an unwelcome thing.

As we move to and from the wheel, what if we were not just in bodies of men and women.

I have all this cloth brought to me, and I just wish to flop into it.

I wonder if one could have been a feline in another life. Or perhaps I was once a hedonist obsessed with tactile comforts.

Either way the servants have brought fresh towels and linens still hot from where they were dried over stoves. This shall be delightful.

Something I have learned today.

Don't be so serious at a Lycene party, even if you win second place. Sometimes, games are meant to simply be fun and not overthink it.

Secondly, there are invisible horses in this world. Invisible horse assassins. Who are experts in fighting with knives.

Between war and what sounds like blood sacrifices, the matter of a landslide that reportedly harmed no one seems insignificant. After the Taste of Arx has run its course, I think I may go out to Westrock and see for myself. I have not had an adventure all year.

Besides, I need to make sure to secure the coffee trees against crazy, pyromaniac business partners and vassals! Just in case. I mean, I did find out that there are such things as invisible horses that kill people with daggers in their teeth.

I just heard a whinny, what was I supposed to do...

Sod it, running now!

Relationship Note on Rukhnis

SOMEONE stole all me left shoes, apart from the ones I was wearing. No names mentioned. It was not Rukhnis. She won them fair and square.

It may be that I am willing to pay to get them back.

The trouble with making so much food, like for the party, is the fear that there will be too much left over. Fortunately, some tall scary fucker gave me the great idea of cooking even more food, passing it around the Murder and the soup kitchens when the party was done. Seemed to be well received, and I don't feel like anything was wasted. Hand-pies keep well, and so does bread, and if you have cups or mugs or buckets, stew is easy enough to carry off.

I have cakes on order, now, and my business plans are going right along. Nothing is perfect however, and I'm very well aware that the world we live in? Far from that. I'll keep working hard and keep the Murder in semi-decent order, do my best to be the bringer of booze and joy (and cookies, that's a new one). With the turn out the other night, I gotta say: it was humbling in the extreme to have so many take the time to wish us well. And gifts! Holy tits, I have no idea what to do with it all.

The past few days have been such a horrid mess and I feel a lot of sympathy for those who feel like they need to turn to drugs and alcohol in order to manage their emotions.

But, honestly? As cheesy as this may sound.. friends are the best cure of all, Scholar.

Friends can come from all walks of life. Sometimes, you'll be pleasantly surprised how far some of them will go just to put a smile back onto your face, especially those you least expect it from.

And unlike my real parents, these friends did not abandon me the moment I showed weakness. The moment I no longer had use, the moment I became difficult.

In fact, in some cases.. I feel closer than ever to them in a way I don't think I ever have before.

Trust. I think that's the word for it.

Trust.

Corrigan, you suck at words but thank you for what you -did-. Thank you for the smoke, it helped the the edge off. Yardstick is the best dog, by the by.

Dycard, would I be overstepping if I called you my best friend? Thank you for the hug, I needed it more than I realised. Ladies of the Peerage, /please/ snatch this one up. You'll want for nothing, and he deserves that happiness.

Sirius, it still baffles me that you even want to spend time with me since I seem to use most of it wiping my snot off with some expensive cloth or another you hand me, but thank you for making me laugh when I needed it. Thank you for the kind words you shared.

Rinel, I don't think you needed to apologise for anything, but you still did. That was very big of you. Thank you, and I am sorry too for getting so mad back then.

Scholar. Does this mean I no longer have to be alone?

I won something at Tanith's and Raymesin's reception. It was pure luck, as I only did as well as I did by following in Corrigan's wake - it's amazing how willing people are to talk when they want somebody else to lose.

Speaking of the Confessor, I should probably return his badge.

So, there I was, yeah? I know, I know. I know - you know - that I was there, okay? But, THERE I WAS:

In the den of snakes, surrounded by so much gold and wealth, that many in the Lowers would fall down and CRY! Yet I, yes, I, Ravna, that is I. Me. I, did only find the greatest, most glorious treasure in all of the pit! Yes. I did, even, and I even - yes, I, Ravna - did defeat those snakes.

...What do you mean 'getting them drunk' does not count? It absolutely counts. Do you know how many guards have lost their jobs to falling asleep after drinking too much? Well, yes, I know - you know, I know you wouldn't know about that but, come now.

Just wandered into Cufre Harrow's shop in the Lowers, on a whim, and she has these amazing beads for sale, made of glass, skulls and flames and really lovely leather bracelets that you can then attach these beads too for a collection! I love it, you should go check them out to, you who reads my white. Furthermore, some VERY nice jewelry in the other part of the shop, in semiprecious metals.

From Tanith and Raymesin's very fine party I have learned that it is, evidently, a thing horrifying beyond all human endurance to put one's hand through a hole in a box full of what are almost certainly earthworms and keep it there for any measurable length of time. This being the case, however, I have obtained a nice sum of money which can be put towards good causes which I have in mind.

.. I am not at all sure about these shoes, though.

Please don't ask me anything about the party. After the earthworms came out, I forgot most everything.

Dammit, -where- is my basket?

Relationship Note on Delilah

I actually wrote about this some time ago.

Language is the first magic.

The magic that everyone can have. The magic that is accessible to all who will learn it.

And it is tremendously powerful.
