I suppose it's a good thing I hadn't planned any trips via ship anytime soon.

A whirlwind that allows only certain ships to pass should rank highly on the list of strange things encountered.

Unfortunately, the novelty faded long ago.

I build a little village out of coins yesterday. Svana said maybe we could use building blocks so they weren't swallowed. As if I'd swallow coins. What a silly woman!

AUGH.

I wasn't mad about the rain, because at least it washed away some of the winter snow and accumulated...stuff that gathers in a city during the winter. It's dreary, but manageable.

But now apparently my suppliers are telling me that they have to dock at harbors down the coast, and I have to hire wagons and riverboats to move everything, everything!, the hard way. Because of a whirlpool in the harbor. A whirlpool in the harbor. The harbormaster swears that it's just some artifact of the storm, and it will go away soon. I don't know much about the ocean, so maybe he's right. Either way, I'm donating to the Faith, praying extra hard for Mangata to take pity on us poor souls down here and...losing money. Luckily I don't deal much with staples, especially in the winter, but I'm going to have to pass these costs on to those of my clientele who can afford it.

Wagons! IN THE SNOW!

By Mangata's Merry Melons, this city gets weirder every year.

Relationship Note on Gianna

I find it funny, if not necessarily amusing, that a house which has been declared 'great', and whose members frequently position themselves as too busy saving the world to engage in petty squabbles, dedicates so much work, time and money week after week to attacking a commoner who has dedicated her life to beautifying the Compact and spreading a tradition of story and song throughout Arvum.

I find it funny, and definitely amusing, that despite having a great house pour down their calumnies on her she still comes through unburnt, with other great houses speaking their approval of what she does, along with some of the finest institutions in the Compact. If anything, she's more beloved than she was before.

Who knew Nightingales were fireproof? Gianna, the Tempered Whisper.

Boom Boom.
What a long week.
I dreamt of conflict. I experienced conflict. I survived it.
I owe my life to few and many.
The things I've seen refuse to leave my mind at night or at day.
I have not touched cake in three days.
Good thing it's that week in the city when they give out free rum.

The Taste of Arx, Thrax Edition was a hilariously wonderful event. Countess Carita, Lady Catalana, and Lord Wulfrum all did a wonderful job putting it together. And best of all, is that no reveler needed reassembling afterwards, despite copious amounts of alcohol. It just makes me so proud that nobody was a complete dumbass!

I had to get out to do some tasks at the bank today and when I started back home, snow was like a thick curtain shrouding the streets. One could hardly see an arms length ahead of them. Golden and Gunther, my dogs, led me to the Golden Hart which was only a short distance away. We took refuge there enjoying the food, drink and conversations till the snowfall lessened enough to get home.

Thanks are offered to the individual who gifted me with an unusual bit of information. Knowledge, no matter when it is given, is always a wonderful gift. I shall cherish it and hold it dearly, and take it for what it is.

The outpouring of affection and praise for myself and the College is very much appreciated, and coming from some unexpected places. Thank you. It is good to see that beauty, song, and art are so valued, and the support for the commoners that are the majority of the College means the world. It has always been important that the College let the voice of the people be heard, and it has. Of course, the people stopped mocking a target when they could no longer defend themselves.

I can still defend myself, and it seems others will defend me as well.

It's been a week or so since I've arrived in the city and boy, what a week it's been!

I have reconnected with my cousin Volcica, who is just the most amazing person. I have missed her quiet charm and quick wit and glad that the darkness we have faced over the last ten years has not deminished her beautiful spirit.

I saw Svana who has gotten married and owns a shop and is having babes! It's so hard to believe how grown up she has become. I still remember her making me dolls and beating up the children who'd pick on me.

I have made so many new friends too. A prince who has revealed so much more than he planned. A lycene lord who has given me his gloves, a feat I'm told us quite impressive. A northerner who reminded me to always remain true to myself, no matter how things are twisted. A vivacious princess who has helped keep me well informed of all these odd new traditions. I am so blessed with those who have reached out and embraced me in the city.

I do just hope that the Marquis I spilt wine on will forgive me, and that his pirate, no aid. (I think aid) stops staring at me and drawing sharp knives.

I'm freezing, Porter Kennex!

However, I quite enjoyed the Taste of Thrax. I even ate all the interesting foods (I don't want to talk about it). Until I pardoned the octopus. Who shall be known as Bubbles (Not Gary like Rorik wants).

However, I may spend all the next few days in bed trying to get warm again.

I really, really despise bullies. I do not care what your station is-- High Noble, King, Queen, Noble of a Barony, a Commoner. A foreign dignitary. I, and I cannot emphasize this enough, hate bullies. If I catch wind of your bullying, well. I may be a commoner nobody but I am quite happy to piss people off now and then when it comes to sticking it to bullies.
