It was a honour to fight beside my fellow Malvici on Caer Morien as well as Lady Clara and Lord Drake.

...Jules was also present..

Peanut shells are excellent tinder for starting rip roaring fires. Using the alcohol to help it, seems a waste of it, but perhaps it was terrible moonshine and it was better used as a fire accelerant. Also who is stupid enough to think, "Gee, I'm on the balcony, lets start a fire on the first floor." Clearly the idiots that did that.

I'm thankful that most of the people made out it before the building collapsed. It seemed that the only people still inside were the arsonists. And we managed to stop the fire from spreading further to the nearby trees and woods. So the damage was minimized.

I woke up this morning in the middle of the beaches, with no recollection how I got there, and wearing someone else's boots. I'm going to assume I had a good night.

There is a small food cart in Arx that has a peppered noodle and seafood dish that is remarkably similar to something we make at home. A soldier of mine discovered it while traveling through the lower boroughs, and now there's a steady stream of off-duty Legio to the cart. It's close enough to the harbor that the seafood is fresh, and the spices taste as near as one can come using local, cheap ingredients.

Most remarkable is style of fermenting the peppers. It is utterly alien to the denizens of Arx, but can be commonly found back home. I cannot help but wonder the story that lead from Sangris to this cart.

Did a lucky merchant brave the Sea of Skulls and think themselves the victor, only to lose it all in Arx, and start this cart-shop as a final effort to pass something onto his or her descendants?

Was a bitter crewman left unpaid, and with nothing but their memory of a foreign dish, seek to strike out on their own and beat a merchant at their own game?

Perhaps the blooded of Sangris left a departing explorer with a gift, and nine months later, a scion of Sangris was born into Arvum, with no knowledge of their half-native land but the twinkle in their mother's eye, and this recipe.

The owner of the cart says that they took over after the previous owner died many years ago, and *that* owner was unlikely to be the original one, given how dreadfully aged the cart looks. The true story has been lost to ages, I fear. But it is an interesting mote of history to discover in such an unimportant part of an otherwise remarkable city.

My people are mobilizing to the defense of the compact and realm once more.

May the hearts of Lycene and our allies burn brave and true so we may do what must be done. May wisdom and intelligence guide us in our task and passion, hope and high spirits light the way to our success.

In truth, I would wish for a peaceful diplomatic defense. Death or harm to anyone, especially innocent people, brings a great sadness to me. But I am not one to turn from a fight, if necessary. We will do what we must.

May the gods protect those who go forth in this task and the Abyss take anyone who stands in our way.

Here's to a quick and easy success.

The trouble with research is that often it's months of dancing around a subject until you realize that you've been looking along a parallel path. Sometimes you perhaps just need to charge directly at the subject even if you know you won't have the right context. The First Flame it seems shows up in my research more often than I've got explanation for. I wonder where it will lead.

Relationship Note on Amari

You forgot to mention the part where half the people below decided to run up said burning stairs, rather than doing the smart thing and getting out of the burning building. I'm sure Baron Norwood will be ecstatic to learn that bit, and which half it was.

I value our friendship, and I've come to think of you as part of my own family, but I have to say I'd feel so very much better if I was the one doing the amazingly foolish bits, and you were instead using your head.

The same also goes for you, Adalyn.

It always tickles me when someone claims to have lost, hurt, bled, cried - whatever - 'more than you could know.'

Maybe ask what someone else /does/ know before passing judgement, Godbotherer.

I am not used to life being so busy! Time is going by far too quickly to get everything done. I am beginning to understand my cousin's comments about the need for a good assistant. But I would much rather be busy than bored.

It was so amazing to be a part of Lady Monique's Tournament of Thorns pre-games! I met so many people and heard so many amazing stories some of which absolutely took my breath away! I adored each and every one even those that didn't qualify and I hope to see everyone at the games!

To all of those who sent congratulations or gifts of crickets and flies, Mother Tegenaria and her Harlequins thank you.

The children are doing excellently and we will make an announcement when it is time for the spiderlings to mount their mother and feast on her liquified internals.

(I kid.)

Winter is fast approaching; I believe my cover crops are all planted. It's rather admirable to me, how something as simple as a field pea can persevere through such cold times.

It is a fine reminder that life can not only endure in every season, but find purpose in it -- even the harshest.

I have been gifted a goat. It gets nervous and then screams, faints and then instantly recovers.

I'm not certain if this person likes or hates me. Plus, I now have to added concern of Lord Ian possibly eating my shrieking new friend. Perhaps it is best if Duke Aethan is gifted the goat? I mean, what could go wrong?

Thank you to everyone who has shown me how beautiful the love of the pantheon is to them. For every offering, I realized how valuable each of our voices are and how unique our messages became that when combined can be -- a shining beacon of hope.

To you, thank you. My private words should have been delivered to each of you individually for words are not enough to show my gratitude.

A poem.. I need to write a poem about freedom.

...

I promised to at least -try- and I find I've slacked off far too many days! Weeks!

...

Oh, the pressure!

Something about ... well, I'm not going to make it public or someone will steal it! ...

Yes, yes, this will do...

I'll get it done!

Relationship Note on Aedric

I received word of his being called in to prepare the naval fleet for New Hope and while I can't help but feel relieved that he at least gave me word of his going, there is a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach at the thought of his having to go at all.

The roses haven't faded yet in their vase, still golden and fully petaled - perhaps their blooms are telling me of something yet to come, or maybe they're just flowers and I'm being silly.

I hope that the song I have composed about freedom is as happily received as the one I wrote about coffee. Of course, it is a song about a much more serious matter. But I am always so eager to share my song with everyone, whether silly or serious. It feels like a long time until my next performance, but practice makes perfect!

Two years in Everwinter. Studying the spirits of the North. Talking to the people that live on the edge of the ice and water. Between this world and the next. I forgot what Arx was like. I forgot what beer tasted like. I FORGOT BEER!

Two years was too long.
