I dislike when my sleep is disturbed by dreams that are sad. Especially when I feel that there must be something I am missing, something I can do.
Of course, it's very odd when they seem to be related to a place I've never been. But there are people there, in my dream, who are familiar. I wonder if perhaps I should stop eating ginger cake before bed.

I fear there's no denying that I've been in rather a black depression, of late. And I certainly have tried to deny it. I suppose it was bound to happen. As I was warned, Arx was a cruel place, to so naive a girl as I. I thought I was ready for that, but it struck from directions I didn't expect. Which is probably the point. I try to claw out of it, and write my journals to try to buoy myself, or goad myself into action, and sometimes it works, for a time. Mostly, it seems I just go right back under.
Things will not get better, if I hide.
All the things that are going so very right did not erase the thing that's a disaster.
Jules is undoubtedly correct, as he often is about these things. I'd best make the first move, to heal my broken heart, because it will not be coming, otherwise.

This trip away from Arx has allowed to put some things in perspective, to take a breath away from the capital and its intrigues, both from the most 'important' to the pettiest. The sea has always been good with that, letting one focus only upon the waters, the direction of the wind, and how bad the coming storm might be when clouds gather on the horizon.
The quiet has proven to be a blessing. Myra has been enjoying it, with so many nights spent staring up to the heavens.
I expect to return in the coming weeks. Then it'll be a matter of picking things up where I left them, and catch up on what has changed in the city and the Compact.

It is done. Finally. The agricultural center dedicated to the Triad of Creation and with a an agricultural research library dedicated to Vellichor has been completed, and oh what a work of beauty she is. She sits just outside of Granato, a bastion of artistic beauty and practicality. Everyone worked on it so splendidly. She is done, and what should have been a triumphant joy over her beauty and grace has now been dwarfed by something else. Something greater. Something darker.
I have learned that my beloved Granato and all of the work I've put into her, into the agricultural center, into making her prosper, into inspiring people to come live in her, is now in under serious threat. I will not have her fall, not like Volkov, Moore, and Steelheart's homes. I will not see her people, /my/ people meet their same fates. I will do everything in my power to see her stand and continue to thrive. We are Flames. We. Will. Not. Be. Quenched.

This is advice to my Malvici cousins who may not know my sister well or at all. If this began as a forgery conspiracy it could turn into an impersonation conspiracy and that would be very bad.
My advice is this. If you meet someone who resembles my sister and claims to be her, ask her to prove it.
The real Eirene will say something that includes many unexpected four letter words. She will possibly roll her eyes at you, and also possibly punch you for asking such a stupid thing, so be ready to duck.
A false Eirene might not know these details.
Confirm all interactions with supposed Eirenes.

IF this is not a forgery situation and my sister has actually returned to Arx, I am leaving this list here as a reference for her so she doesn't have to waste time figuring out what to lecture me about. It's all outlined below.
1. My house is ostentatious, very expensive, and entirely impractical.
2. My clothes are ostentatious, very expensive, and entirely impractical.
3. My general personality remains ostentatious, very expensive, and entirely impractical.
4. I still do not know how to use a sword but I /can/ occasionally get a scratch in with a hairpin. (note the hairpin part she should be very proud of, it is not a suggested lecture. The sword part I know she has her feelings about.)
5. I'm very tired because I could only think of four things. Oh! I'm not getting proper sleep, since I serve as lady-in-waiting to a beautiful but entirely nocturnal Queen, and yet also have things I have to do during the day. She could lecture me on that as well.

Today someone sent me a letter forged in Eirene's handwriting, claiming she was back in the city.
Its obviously complete nonsense because of /course/ the first thing she would have done had she arrived would be run straight over to see me.
I could swear I saw similar forgeries in the whites, and I'm nearly certain that is a sin. Isn't it?
Forgery is a serious problem that the citizens of Arx need to be ever vigilant about.
