Relationship Note on Elisha

Some things you understand only if you've been in the shadow of the upper city your whole life. And if you ain't a bootlicker.

And some things you can't post in the Whites cuz people you love could be hurt. Hurt by what's below, or by what's above. But sometimes they'll be hurt either way.

Eli's poems aren't prophecies or anythin stupid like that. If you know what they're about, you know what they're about. If you don't, you're not payin enough attention.

I wasn't, until just a couple weeks ago. Thought they were just kinda made-up stories with pretty words that were just fun and crazy. I said he's gotta stop sendin em to the Whites and just send em to friends instead, cuz of some advice from a smart apprentice Whisper.

So, the duchess of thieves poem got to me in a letter.

That's when I knew. It was selfish to tell him to keep his shit secret, and I told him so. That poem's a reflection of the story of Wisdom and Woe. If you wanna hear more, then find me. Probably in the Lowers.

Relationship Note on Vincenzo

While the words will ring as perhaps harsh to some, I do agree that they must form the thoughts by some of the future Shav'arvani and likely why we saw that sudden appearance a few months ago of a foreign power within the Compact's borders.

It is why, at testing times, where there is unity there is always victory.

It is not a good statement about our society when, in the face of foreign emissaries running amok in our lands, one of the Mothers of the Church is forced to put out a statement reminding our people, especially our nobles, that support of a heretic is frowned upon. The Faithful though should not worry overly however - in those houses where it occurs, I am confident the Seraphs and their Templars back in the holdings of those families will ensure there is no indication this is more than a foolish lapse.

I found myself wondering when Thena was going to plan our next meeting the other day. I didn't cry when I realized she wouldn't be ever planning a meeting for Solace ever again. I think that in and of itself is an improvement.

A few minutes later I realized that I was the one that plans the meetings now. I know that sounds rather elementary but...

Shhh. Don't tell anyone. I escaped the estate today for a short time to enjoy some poetry. It was a lovely event as it always is, and I got to see some wonderful people I have not been able to in far too long; my sister-in-law, my cousin-in-lawish, Prince Artur, The Loveliest Lianne... for example. Every time I attend one, I am reminded how many talented people reside in Arx, and it makes me smile. Every so often, I share something I have written as well. But today was not that sort of day. My journal still remains with only, 'Legend has it...' and nothing more.

Thank you to Princess Helena for continuing to hold such events. I truly enjoy them.

As always, my heart is full after a poetry reading. Seeing new faces there is always a delight, especially when they are also dear friends who simply were too busy to make it in the past. But also, those who come each time to either read or support those who do, you make everyone worthwhile. I hope to see you all at the next one. If someone has an idea for a theme I haven't alighted upon yet, do send me word.

One day, I will know what is going on.

Of course, that won't last for long, I'm sure. It never does. There's always something new happening, something else going on.

But it's nice to dream a bit, that one day I will understand.

Of course, usually just when I think I am going to, one of the babies wakes up, and I am startled out of such daydreams.

Busy, busy, busy, busy! One would assume with all the snow, it would keep people from the City Center, but that has always held out to be a false line of thought. Some of my most lucrative days have been during the colder months. Bolts of fabric--mostly undyed silk and umbra--have lept into the arms of customers both old and new; precious gems waiting to be cut and fit into the perfect setting have found their ways into the hands of the nobility and more ordinary folk. I'm pleased by the look of my ledgers and will no doubt mark this turn of my nearly first year back in the city with something extra special. Business is good, and this year is shaping up to be one of my best yet.

The Marquis and Marquessa of Keaton have already been welcoming and gracious hosts. I do not know how long I will spend in Arx, but I'm pleased to be able to spend it with them. The Lady Katherine Fidante has joined me from her home in Tor and I trust that she, too, will find my family hospitable.
