I am so happily welcomed into my new family, you would not believe. It continues to amaze me. And so I do think I would like to help build some thing that will help and last. Yes, I know - I can't build. Or craft. And I know nothing about infrastructure or agriculture.

But you see, I know people who can and do.

Relationship Note on Reese

You do not show your prowess and years of dedicated training, nor give praise to Gloria with your combat, if it with a stacked deck. If your friend cares for you, then they will come to see that and understand why you did what you did, Your Highness. Your glory is not made more radiant through such, but through your own struggles.

--Words shared with Princess Reese at the Training Grounds.

It's with great sadness that I have learned of Count Gailin's passing. I was never close with the Count or remember meeting him much at all, but he was Titania's husband and Leif's father. With both now back on the Wheel, my nephew must grow up knowing neither in his life. It's a lot of responsibility, to be an heir, and harder still to be one without the guidance of a loving parent. I know Kennex, as supportive as they were for me, will be no less for Leif.

In order to be ready for the dance class coming soon, I have had Johannes about town getting signs and finding musicians for the duration. While he has been able to find a few, truly I wish to offer this as an opportunity for up-and-coming artists to play.

Now, for those who can spare the time and play an instrument. Please send a courier forth to me expressing you shall be able to attend and help. I shall see about recompense coming to you for your efforts.

Also excellent dancers in the box steps of the waltz would be truly appreciated. Some to help those who will find this unfamiliar, along with the opportunity to meet others.

My mother lives in the Saffron Isles. I haven't had a letter from her in some time and I'm starting to worry.

I've been trying to get her to come back to the city, but the woman is about as stubborn as they come. "You're grown and wise and strong and I need to go home," she'd said right after I bought my shop, right before Lady-Regent Dawn made me her protege. I could tell the loss of Father had weighed on her all this time, she was ready to be back among her kin.

My next letter will be more insistent. She has babies to play with, here.

Is it too late to pray?

I don't care.

Mother. Be safe. Listen to me, and come here soon.

I had started and stopped the plans for the Artshall School of Agriculture, numerous times. I've brought it up so often that I'm afraid my family and close friends were getting ready to flail me if I brought it up one more time. But it's finally starting to shape into something real. It's strange to me that I feel so distant from it. Orders given out and plans brought together though the hands of others. Without them, this would really be nothing.

Lord Kedehern Laurent, Lady Shae Keaton, Lady Amari Keaton, Lady Adelphie Harthall and Lady Tesha Telmar helped lead some of the initial explorations to the site that would eventually become our foundation. They fought to cleanse the land of dangers and bring it back under Compact control, assisted by the Natalia Whisper and Dame Thena Grayhope of the Knights of Solace.

We still have a long way to go and more to fight for, I suspect. Something worth building is something worth knocking down to someone else.

Kind of funny that the person best positioned to welcome new businesses to the Ward of the Lyceum is also the one in charge of deciding rent in two other wards.

My diplomatic envoy ahead of Sir Preston's forces was a successful one. There are many Abandoned out there who seek asylum and are willing to bend the knee. There may be those who look upon the Abandoned with disdain in recent days, but we must not forget that the actions of a few do not paint the whole.

The Cloudspine welcomes those who are willing to bend the knee and swear fealty. They suffer as much as any of us when the raiding parties of the dangerous, warring clans set themselves afield. Perhaps moreso, without the aid of shelter, the watchful eye of neighboring Houses and knights, or the tender hand of Mercies.

Those that Blackram welcomed in will now have all of this and more: the familial embrace of the Compact. I appreciate Princess Reese, Dame Esoka, and Brother Gregory for their assistance in the outreach efforts and of course, Sir Preston for his crusade in working to make the Red Mountains and -- by extension -- the Oathlands safer as a whole.

I've been routinely humbled, if not utterly humiliated too many times to count since deciding I ought to be at least passingly familiar with the martial arts. So far I've fallen off horses a great number of times, I've been absolutely destroyed in sparring contests without landing a single blow on my opponents, I've tripped during an archery contest and even accidentally struck Kael with a wooden bat at a party, and there's more I'm just too embarrassed to record.

That said, it's still been fun, cuts and bruises aside and I'm becoming more competent by the day. I do wish though, that I'd had an earlier start on it. You worry far less about your dignity when you're a child.

As voices lift in poetry, so too do my spirits. Thank you to all who came to share their words with us, and also those who came to listen. I look forward to seeing both new and familiar poets and lovers of poets at the next session.

My Sons,

Eventually, you will probably face a situation where you have a choice between what you feel is right, and what you know is best for the long term even if it feels absolutely wrong. Most people do, especially those responsible for ruling over others. Going against your instincts is one of the most difficult things you will ever have to do. That feeling in your gut, which I hope will be a great guide for you most of the time, is a powerful thing boys. But no one, and nothing in this world, is perfect. Your initial reaction might just be incorrect, or the situation might turn out to be too complicated for instinct alone to provide proper guidance. Whatever the reason, when that time comes, you will need the courage to do what is right, as best you can see it, not just what feels like it.

I am not fond of bandits. I spoke this to myself as we returned and A youngster heard. They called out, "Yeah! Bandits suck!"

That, I believe, is quite fitting.

Princess Reese does House Grayson proud with her decision to abstain from the Grand Melee in light of the rumors about attempts to fix the contest in her favor. If there is any evidence proving these rumors and labeling those behind the plot, perhaps the tournament's organizer will issue disqualifications.

I visited my second of Princess Helena's poetry readings, and found there fellowship, beauty and the full spectrum of human emotions crafted eloquently into words. Princess Donella presented a poem that perfectly captured the passing of the Autumn season, while Marquessa Lianne, proving herself a versatile genius of our age, presented a poem reflecting on the antithesis of living and knowing, of thought and action, in the conceit of a hummingbird after its passing. Our illustrious hostess also read, first a meditation on separation and transformation from Lord Sebastian, who could not himself be present, and then a few of her own poems, one of which proposed the impossible circumstance of a lover who could somehow forget her - a laughable notion to any who have spent time in the Princess's presence, but an excellent opportunity for her to display unmatched skill in the poetic presentation of the feelings of longing.

I was also very happy to see those who came out for the readings. Though always nervous to share anything publicly, I truly appreciate the community who comes to support the poets of Arx, as they have always made me feel at home and welcome. Listening to the other poets present, I am becoming painfully aware that my own style of composition is far different from those talented writers. While the aid of a muse is conventional for poets, it is more than that for me. I am more a listener than a writer, and never read what I present, so much as recall the voice that so often flows through my mind.

Vomas and I spent a chilly afternoon playing a game of strategy in the manor garden. We spoke of unrelated topics while we played in order to add an additional layer to our game, as we tend to do.

I am proud to admit that Vomas finally won a match between the pair of us and I am thrilled at his accomplishment. He rose and wandered away after his victory. Chest puffy with confidence and his shoulders thrown back with bravado. He's adorable, really.
