If you don't have nice crusty bread, at least two kinds of cheese (one runny, one stinky) some honey, figs and dark grape vinegar in your backpack, then you aren't preparing for your survival situations very well. Honestly, if you leave the city without a veritable charcterie in your pack, you have no place adventuring in any way.

Catfish are actually pretty disgusting because they're bottomfeeders. Catfish _can_ be delicious if cooked properly but many soldiers and scouts think they're better at this than they are.
If you're going to be hunting fish in a survival situation, freshwater fishes, especially -- since if you're eating catfish I assume you're looking at freshwater fishes -- I'd aim for trout or walleye, you can find walleye pretty reliably in the Mother and other more northerly rivers, and trout are a good bet in lakes and ponds. If you catch bluegill or other small fish, you can use them as bait to catch bigger ones that you can then use to feed more of your men!
Make sure you cook it, though. There are a number of fishes you can safely eat raw if you're hunting in the sea, but freshwater fishes will kill you!
As a note if you're going to be near the same body of water for a few nights, consider learning -- or having one of your men learn -- to weave a fish trap. It's much less time consuming than trying to hand- or spearfish if you don't have very good timing.

The whole idea seems doomed to failure. You can say 'this gathering is about saying whatever you want without hurting feelings', but feelings will be hurt and people will get upset. Rules of a party don't change that. And rules of a party don't supersede the rules of society, so if someone comes out of this deciding they should challenge someone else, no party agreement will prevent it from happening.

I have so many questions about this "Catharsis" coming up.
1. Does anyone think this will actually help anything?
2. If I hear about something said during a catharsis that makes me want to issue a challenge to that person, what's to stop me? The rules don't apply to those of us not going, after all.
3. If you're too cowardly to say something without being willing to issue or be issued a challenge over it, is it even worth saying in the first place?
4. Is the eve of a major battle really the time to stir up resentment?
5. Isn't letting things out in a constructive way a large reason we keep our Black Reflections?
6. Who wants to go to an event that is just people whining? If I want that I can go literally anywhere in the city at literally any time.

To my recollection, some of the women in the Isles liked to spread mud over their faces and lie for long periods of time. Supposedly, it was to remove blemishes on their skin and prevent wrinkles.
I have little need for such things, nor do I know for certain whether it works. But wrinkles have been a rarity on the women I have seen during my stays in Maelstrom, so take it as you will.

On won hand.... Catfish is is delicious.
On the other hand that is just an insane way to catch fish. I am told it is a favorite way for the Blackram to catch fish as well. I will stick rod, spear and net I think.

As of last night the book and score of The Good Duke of Gemecitta is finished.
Now to get a bunch of people to make a stage and then put on the show.
I am lucky to know so many talented performers, as most roles will require acting, singing and dancing.
This really should be a theatrical spectacle unlike anything the city has ever seen before.
I'm quite excited to see how it is received, just as I am excited to start writing my next show. Or perhaps resume edits on The Dinner. Or, if this goes well, do a musical adaption of The Price's Bride! So many possibilities!

Have I mentioned how dreadful it is to be this pregnant? I find myself anxious for the end and yet at the same time wondering...how exactly does this baby get out? I, of course, have been informed of how it's supposed to work but...really? Surely there's an easier way, right? And now it's just a waiting game as to when the little Prince or Princess might make her appearance. Lady Margret tells me I've a month or so to go until we really start being on edge for imminent arrival, but she also said that these things can be surprising so I ought to take it easier than I have been. So, after tonight's event I think I shall be resting a lot more. But I'm told everything is looking as well as can be expected and I just hope I can live with the excitement of it all for another month+!

I would be a liar if I said I ever found any wisdom in the teachings of Tehom that I felt made me a better person, or that it provided a perspective that I found meaningful in a way that I felt I did not find from the virtues the other gods exemplify.

I am writing far less these days. It's not that I am lacking inspiration to do so - not that at all - but a combination of a lack of time and far too many subjects, many of which are sensitive, all of which I want to give a proper exploration when I do write. This makes it difficult to put quill to ink and pick one.
Case in point: I have just taken half an hour to decide what this second paragraph is going to be about.
There has been a cascade of thoughts in my mind of late, feelings and emotions, goals and conflicts. There has been a lot of change recently - some of which even managed to unbalance me - and yet, I feel only inspired to more. More wine, more love, more laughter, more tears, more fighting, more bleeding, more chasing anything that feels real enough, that's intense enough, that my body and mind both sing in harmony at the beauty of it all.
This one isn't quite there. Perhaps that is why there is a trail of ashes behind me.

I can not even begin to express how impressed I am with Josephine Arcuri. She brokered an amazing deal for me for the making of my armor and weapon, so good that it felt like I MADE money when it was all over. I half suspect I was, in fact. And the ease with how she handled it all? Absolute, complete efficiency and professionalism while also being a social graceful marvel.
I enjoyed it so much I'm tempted to just buy things and beg her to broker for me, for the enjoyment of it all. I won't though, she is a busy woman.

It's the dogs. They bring people together. A well-behaved happy dog can make everyone feel comfortable and and they comfort, too. (This is the actual reason I walk around with three dogs, cause one isn't enough to make people talk to me.)
