Regarding Master Torian's dilemma about the goat and the commoners - really this is not much of a dilemma. Jurisdiction is by far the most simple part of our law, if such a word could ever be used for matters of law. In each and every case, it is the lord who was wronged by his servant, even if the servant is sworn to another now, who has the right under the Gods to demand justice. As the criminal was sworn to him when the act was committed, his new liege must turn him over for judgement, and may, if he chooses, declare his vow of fealty void. Few lords would risk open war with another house over a goat thief.
As for the reputation of the liege when a vassal commits a crime - I know who the Cullers are and what you're about. Do your actions smear the reputation of our King?

I was ambushed. It wasn't really me, so much, but I was in the group of Mercies that were ambushed. It was very exciting, by which I mean it was terrifying. And exciting. I hit someone in the face with an apple. It didn't do much good, but it slowed them down a little.
Besides me, it was mostly the Knights of Solace who did all the fighting and defending us from the attackers. It was a very strange attack, and I wonder who could have been behind it. I'm very grateful for our escort, even if it was very unpleasant to watch people being killed. Even if they were bad people trying to kill me. I'm glad it was me and not them, but it feels bad. Fortunately I was able to save one, at least.
I have to learn how to defend myself, meaning how to duck and hide and run away from a fight. I already have a lesson planned, so hopefully next time I'll be a little more ready for it.

Courtkeep may not be the most glamorous of the holy feasts, but it is definitely as important. The Just God demands just actions, and sometimes just actions are difficult to accept. Justice often flies in the face of our darker impulses, especially when it demands inaction when we thirst for vengeance. In preparation for Courtkeep, I ask the city simply to meditate on those you feel have wronged you, and how the Faceless God would view how you've treated those people.

She felt so betrayed but didn't speak a word.
Afraid what was said might be misheard.
Screaming the pain she felt but no one could hear.
Her insides were dying tear after tear.
She is friendly with anyone, but yet so alone.
The fake smile she wears how could anyone have known.
The pain, hurt, and betrayal that she feels inside.
Feelings she can't deal with so she tries to hide.
Not knowing what to do, how to feel or were to go.
She can't put her guard down, she can't trust a soul.
Everyone thinks she is happy with this act she puts on.
Yet she cries almost every night till the break of dawn.
She is trying to find herself through all this confusion.
As soon as she thinks she found it, its just an illusion.
Trying to understand why people do what they do.
It always ends up she hasn't got a clue.

Somehow I was convinced this morning to get involved with a charity that Master Kaine is putting together. I don't mind, and I'm sure it's a worthy cause. I'm just not sure how I managed to agree to help make sure needy folk in the Lowers have coats this winter, when all I really wanted was to make sure that I have a warm coat for myself.

I'm no lawyer, I'm just a sellsword that took to settling down in the city and learning a trade. The law is interesting though, as most written things can be.
I keep my nose clean too, but it still be interesting. like I wrote about the goat you know, and how do you judge something like that? Two commoners I fighting over a goat, both sworn to you, what a mess.
Then I thought about this, another layer. Let's say a commoner is sworn to you, and they do their service and you release them in good standing. THEN somebody accuses them of taking a goat back when they was sworn to you.
NOW who sits as judge? What if your commoner is sworn to another house? The crown? What about the fact that accusing a commoner of a crime when they was sworn to you is a clear judgment on your house? Certainly the master at the time must be responsible if it is there reputation?
Maybe if you have a new master they would pass judgement, but what if the goat their is crownsworn? The crime accused was alleged under the old master.
Maybe I'll ask a lawyer. Or somebody that likes riddles?

It's hard to prioritize the things I would like to accomplish. It feels like House Kennex has plumbed the depths of poverty, both economically and militarily. During that time, I committed myself for the first time to a cause, and found myself successful in restoring the Kennex navy, not alone, obviously but with some significant effort on my part. That was my duty, and since I've been released from that duty, I feel that I can undertake other challenges. The difficulty is choosing one. I'd like to see Darkwater restored. I'd like to build a ship to rival the Carlotta. I'd like to see Eurus. I'd like to meet a Marin'alfar. Not sure which one of those I will tackle first.

I am so excited! We have often wished to offer special recognition to those who are ongoing champions in our Hart and so it is this day that we begin to make this a tradition for one and all.
From this day forward we have decided to keep our tourney champion lists up dated for all to see. Those with the highest ongoing standing will be among the first to be offered an invitation to participate in the Harts' champions tournament and a chance to become one of the elite first to win the respected title of tried and true Champions of the Hart. A tradition I hope that will carry on into the future.
I cannot wait to see who will be the first to make the lists tonight.
