Relationship Note on Piccola

I enjoy reading her writings when I'm made aware of them. A smart scholar or student of war would collect all her writings and put them in a book.

Relationship Note on Dio

I have found myself reeling with the news of your death and the lack of information concerning it. Days and nights bleed together in a haze of smoke and drink as they afford me dreamless sleep. But sometimes, my beloved brother, I see you raising your glass to me in the shadows with a smile. If you are truly a spirit trapped in this realm of existence, I welcome your ghostly presence however it might pain me at the realization you are gone.

Words are ash in my mouth, quill shakes, and my eyes are sightless as they peer out towards the horizon. If I was your stone in which to keep your blade sharp, your star to guide your ship home - what does that now mean for me with you gone?

Also, been exploring the Shadowood with Amari and various Clements and Keatons and friends--there's a lot going on there, but much of it is marsh. The Mudfoot clan in the Greenmire swamp at least were willing to be friendly, even if I very much lost my composure at the hats they wear. Amari made me one of my own as a reminder of good manners.

The jungles of the Saffron Chain are kind of awful, but wokring with the Marquis Giorgio and others we managed to save several captives taken by Abandoned heretics during the war. Fortunately most were still alive, as we interrupted their sacrificial rite.

For want of living an I was lost. We. For want of wanting everything - what will that take us?

Bird shit. An overcooked lambchop. A life-sized marble statue. My ass looks better in person.

(That's the truth.)

When a man dwells on the objects of sense, he creates an attraction for them. Attraction develops into desire; desire breeds anger; anger induces delusion; delusion occludes the truth; without truth, reason is shattered; and loss of reason leads to destruction.

A wise general who moves free from attachment or repulsion touches peace. Having attained peace, she finds freedom. And as a ship at sea is tossed by the tempest, so the freedom and reason are carried away by straying senses.

The sudden cold snap we had wreaked havoc on my humors - hopefully it didn't have the same effect on the seasonal crops. They're built hardy, but there's a reason they're autumn pickings, not winter pickings.

I never was much of a farmer, but we can't ever really escape our upbringing. When I wake on an unseasonably cold day or night, my first thought isn't to roll out of bed and warm my bones, it's to rush out into the cold to assess the damage, to fetch a warm covering for our tired old mare.

A silly impulse, but one that doesn't go away, even a decade removed.

The wise general grieves neither for the dead nor the living; for the living, death is certain, and over the inevitable one should not grieve. Accepting the inevitable rather is the only way one may truly find meaning in the time one has. For a general, that meaning lies in the execution of war and one's dedication to those whom one serves honorably. And the proper execution of war, as I have mentioned before, lies in subduing one's enemies without having to step onto a field of battle, for there is nothing more proper in war than to seize a victory without losing a soldier.

If you want to have your cake
Then you can't eat it too
What a proper mess you've baked
Playing girls for fools

You thought you were clever
But you have so much to learn
Now your web is all aflame
I hope you're feeling burned

Your house of lies has fallen
And you really had some nerve
If you feel hard done to now --
Well, that's what you deserve.

Wise general, where right and wrong is distinguished from the sides of a battle the only thing that matters is honor.

I tried a bit something new with designing and am pretty pleased with the way they turned out. I worked with cupridium, as I have a bit of a surplus of that on hand at the moment. Or, I did at least. Now they are all happy little hairpins that will hopefully be well-received.

ARGH. Over the course of the last few weeks I have found myself writing words down in messages and then having them tossed. Things I want to say. Things I want to offer. Warnings of events I might partake. Once the words are written, I stare at them and then crumple them up and burn them.

It's quite frustrating. There can be a danger in putting words to paper. Equally there can be a danger in speaking them. So, you must keep them to yourself, and live with them until a time until you can. If you can.

I do not wish this fate on anyone. I commiserate with others who have similar circumstances.

Until that time, I console myself by researching useful things I can talk about, even as I contemplate now whether or not I should even be committing these words to the whites.

Relationship Note on Mabelle

It has been far too long since we have caught up over tea. I will happily wear the hat, regardless if you marvel or laugh, but we will have to find a big table to share our drinks over. It's that impressive.

And so I'm back in the city. I'm not sure why I didn't wait for the summer heat to pass before undertaking that trip. Would have been much more bearable two weeks hence I must say. In any event, here I am. I must say I missed it.

I've been unusually lazy this summer. Poor Lax has had the run of the shop more and more while I've been just off doing whatever it is I've felt like doing. It's been nice. And very unlike me.

I didn't even run the kiln like I usually do. This summer, I just decided it was too hot for it. Well, with the exception of the rose pins, but that was just something you make an exception for, isn't it?

I feel it coming to an end. I'm not claiming some sort of fancy future-seeing. No, if I could do that, I hope I'd have a bit more coppers in my pocket. No, I'm just feeling the end of this summer more than others. There's a lot of work to be done come autumn. Working the glass in the kiln, getting new bits of jewelry on the shelves. All the covering up in the colder weather means the jewelry has to work that much harder to be noticed, you know.

And then there's the Beginnings work. I'm not often the first Harlequin called on for it, but with so many of the last winter's babes about ready to be welcomed, the start of autumn always has a bit of extra busy to it.

This summer has been good to me, but getting back to the blessings of my usual will, I hope, give the memory of it more meaning. What's the pendant without the chain, right?

Today's tea was a delicious strawberry tea, fruity and delicate. I quite enjoyed it, even if it wasn't coffee.

The children enjoyed some of the berries, and made a mess of more than they ate. At least they had fun.
