I must also note, that though I have sought out the help of Archscholar Sina for previous investigations, where her vast learning and insight was immensely helpful, I had never before worked with her in the field. Let it not be said that the Archscholar's merits lie solely in the sacred Archives of Arx, great as they are. For those like Lady Alessia, Sister Dianna, Sir Amund, Evaristo, Lady Zoey and myself, who take up arms against the enemies of the Compact, the holy prayers of the Archscholar are nothing less than divine protection. She set her warriors' souls ablaze, and held the forces of darkness in an unbreakable grip. Nor did the Archscholar leave the battle unscathed, a testament to her valor, which allowed those who serve the gods to find victory.
It was a great honor to work with so fine a team in the pursuit of justice, and in particular, Lady Zoey Kennex, whose ability to shatter an ignited bottle of highly flammable alcohol at fifteen yards with her bow, in order to incinerate our enemies in an explosion of fire, must be seen to be believed. Perhaps we'll try it again at Lady Monique's next party.

Now, I think that might be for the best.
I will never look at those stones the same way again.

I wish I could say something great, but it feels so much more dismal than that.

Now imagine a world where people who were on that path were held up as exemplars, were glorified. Then they would not walk that path alone, but thousands, tens of thousands, would walk that path with them. Because all of society has told them, this is what you should emulate. And it is a path that takes them all further from good, further from the Faith. The harm that can be done would be immense.
It is not enough to simply look at evil and say you will never be that. It is to dedicate yourself to the commands of the God to fortify yourself against it. It is to never allow any negotiation between yourself and the evil that lurks beyond the mirror. It is not just to condemn, but to carve out that evil where you can with the Sentinel's justice and Gloria's honour. It is to preserve what we are. We must be active in our pursuit of goodness. Not passive in our horror at evil.

It was fortunate that I was already present in Setarco for Arianna and Valentina's wedding, for the Gods only know how much I fear setting foot on a ship. At least the caraval on which we travelled back to Arx was swift, and whilst I shall miss my beloved home and the new friends made there, I am ready to embrace the city once more.

The result is outstanding, although I am biased, but those who are familiar with his work will know it must be true.
Thank you, you honour me.

I heard that the most recent Pravus wedding was quite the event. Pool full of wine. Now that is a fine way to go, if one could choose.

Not too long ago, I returned from an expedition that lead is into a great cold, where as we were going to light a fire, bandits surrounded us. Their plight was of a different nature but no less the same, as it surely came down to the nature of survival that lead them to us and our flame. Thankfully my friend was already well aloft from my arm and away from any harm as threats came upon all of our lives. We were out matched, three to one, with no where to run. I resorted immediately to the practice of good cheer and common politeness, asking them to join our numbers, to join the fire, and work for the silver they intended to rob. Alas, they did not see any merit in work when they could easily overwhelm and take all.
Thankfully, my friend, a good friend, one that soars ever higher, found allies in that frozen world. They descended upon the bandits and stood between us and certain ruin. With the spare of silver I had, I beg the bandits leave, so lives were spared, since we all have greater enemies than eachother at our door step. With our allies looking down upon them, they fled. I surely hope my silver filled their bellies and kept them warm, for many a night. I often wonder and I hope, they don't slip into the grasp of those who would never set them free.
But then, our attention was upon our allies, who felt the cold turning colder, if that were such a thing. Restlessness over came them and weary of some growing danger, they took us to their home.
We became their guests for a time, such pleasant memories, such once in an life time memories. I shall endure to help them, as they helped us.

I am no poet... but here I try.. for such experiences have inspired... a verse or two I can manage perhaps.
~~~~
We soared from our mortal bonds of the earth
Dancing lawlessly through the unbreaking sky
Stretching our arms with laughter's mirth
Touching the clouds as our souls made their heady cry.
Between sun split clouds our freedom was found
Up and up, over delirious windswept heights,
Into frozen darkness where neither sight nor sound,
Could indicate which way was to the mind the right.
Yet, with tailored grace of a long spent master
Our sails were drawn in to take to quick land
Where a flurry of excitement was spent thereafter
To celebrate the moment we had, firsthand.
I surely think I will leave poetry to those who do it best. Stories are more my thing.
Another book to write, I believe, soon to be bound. A part two from what I wrote many year ago.
Perhaps. Perhaps if I have the time. Memories do best, when written down, afterall.
Not that I shall forget all that transpired.
The city has been most welcoming so far. I have been accepted into the Spirit Walkers and will seek admittance into the physician's Guild as well. I hope I will find many opportunities to be of help to my family in these troubling times.
It will take me some time to understand fully what is in store for me here, and to learn the customs. There are many things heard today that I do not understand. But I am patient. I will learn in time.
I enjoyed the Mercier Tea Shop. I see myself returning there often. Lord Ciaran Farshaw also recommended his family's coffee place. I am intrigued enough to seek it soon.
Today was a day of meeting people. I look forward to meeting more in the coming weeks.
Relationship Note on Ras
Instead a very troubled boy fell into my lap.
Well, more punched me in the stomach, really. I can count the fingers on the bruise!
Ras has had a very poor time of it, lately. He lost his best friend, and lost his guiding light in life with him. He was attacked, and nearly killed. We all read these journals from a great distance. We see the scandals, and the politics. But the very human costs and ruin from them is often something hidden, or veiled. As a girl who lost people, in Stormwall, and then floundered for many years, angry, adrift, alone (also by my own choice), ineffective and haunted, I can relate to his troubles, I think.
I hope my words helped. I hope my urging to be that boy that looked on in sheer horror, after realizing he hurt me, helped. I hope he does lean harder upon those who dearly love him, and finds his way, as I did, when I finally abandoned my foolishly one-woman quest. I hope that I showed him, in even some tiny manner, that his life is not over, and that he may yet be surrounded by people that care.
He's a sweet, good-hearted boy. I saw that much in him. He's ruled too much by his passions, maybe, but with the right direction there is few stronger virtues than passion. His loyalty would make any Knight blush. So much good can come from a person like that!
I pray to Lagoma, to light the path toward a better tomorrow, for him, so he can walk it.
I pray to Vellichor, that he may know the steps to take.
I pray to Gild, that he may find charity and giving, as he struggles to rebuild his life, instead of scorn.
I pray to Jayus, to calm his troubled mind, and to let his rest, in the safety of my house, be sweet.
Please note that the scholars may take some time preparing your journal for others to read.
