Relationship Note on Josephine

I have received a most wonderful gift. The intent behind it is truly touching; I shall treasure it, always.

Guildmaster Josephine Arcuri is blessed with a real gift -- but it is clear it is a gift that has been honed into something exceptional by hard work and passion; a clear sign of an excellent Guildmaster.

During our Explorer's trip Amari, Kedehern, and I found three goats. I admit at first I was excited, and hoping for new goats. Missing my old little pygmy goats, Magnolia, who was given to me by Gaston, and Rainbow, who I won in a game at Kael's birthday party. Each special to me. And sadly they are both gone.

These new goats we found are not pygmy ones, nor are they just farm goats either, but from what we saw and experienced, they are War Goats. Their horns and hooves having been covered in metal that is sharped, making them rather dangerous. In addition their poor teeth have been sharpened as well, which is horrible.

I'm proud of Amari and Kedehern, they helped me with trying to calm them and instead of killing them we captured them. And now I have three war goats. That really like to play with my cloaks...

I'm very proud of the school my family has built, as years pass we see orphans who might otherwise have ended up burgers or cutpurses starting to make real money with legitimate skills.

Jays be blessed!

My first Assembly of Peers has been a most educational experience. Though the political theater is far from my favorite battlefield to engage in, it is interesting to see the way the many and varied denizens of Arx choose to partake in the dance and otherwise voice their concerns -- especially in how they are so different, and yet so fundamentally similar, to the particular dance steps the politicians of Setarco so enjoy. I am grateful for the opportunity.

My most heartfelt congratulations to both House Mazetti and House Stahlben on their elevations. It is always good to see the deserving rise to prominence.

I came into my forge, day after day, to see the dust and the shavings, tools placed where they were last used. You needed time. I told Laurel and Trina to leave it be. We would wait.

Then I came in and it was clean. The floors swept, the tools where they belong. Things organized and things in their place.

You are appreciated. You are valued. You are worth the world to me.

Relationship Note on Kyden

For any who care.

Calling me an wrinkly old woman is not going to end well as young Kyden learned or at least should have learned.

The more days of spring that pass, the more I think of how much I love it. It is forever to me a season of rebirth. Of new things. I never looked at it new love or whatever silly notions other people seem to. I guess it isnt silly to them. But to me it's just always meant a fresh start. I'm so excited to see what else is in store.

Even though I was unable to attend the marrige of my friend Martino to his lovely bride - an event at which I fear I would have been precious little use, amidst the unexpected alarums and perils - I did manage to attend less perilous occasions. I was one of those lurking in the background at the Black and White Ball of Grimhall; I succeeded in being marginally more visible (and with a full bevvy of children in attendance!) at the wedding of Arianna and Valentina - which has provided me with someone else to call me 'Auntie S'. It's an unconventional honorific, but one of which I am rather fond, I confess.

It might be customary to make this a formal proclamation on behalf of the Truesworn, but I hope that a Journal entry will come across as more personal: I am truly delighted that Lord Martino and the Lady Kaia are now wed - and that they and their guests survived their wedding, in spite of the best efforts of their assailant. I hope and pray for a full and swift recovery.

Sweet Lady Belle...

What is it with our timing??

I am truly sorry to have missed your birthday.

Next year, send me a warning well in advance - a year perhaps - and I will try to be there. I swear!!

Relationship Note on Martino

I am grateful that my second-cousin, dearly loved, Martino, did not celebrate his wedding, only to need a funeral.

Swift and careful actions saved the day!

I am sorry I was not there to help, but am glad others were!

To a blessed union, Cousin, and many years of good health and many children to make your hair turn gray!

Since coming to the city, I've had the privilege of so many opportunities . The most recent? Westwind Point. I have no words for it. None.

But I can say...I'm glad Countess Cady is alright. I didn't lose my adventure partnter.

So some slavers were operating straight out of Arx. Opportunistically preying on the lower ranks of society it was only due to an impromptu investigation by myself, Dame Alexis and Countess Joslyn that they were uncovered.
They had attempted to flee the city but I was able to take command of an Empyrean ship in dock to quickly chase them down and board them, ending their ventures.
Joslyn is a fury with such small weapons as the hairpin she was using. Highly effective indeed.

I was training with my bow in the gardens the other day. The children were with the servants, Radhilde was away. I was alone. Just me, and my bow. And I realised for the first time, I did not notice the noise. Or feel the oppression of the city. Ever since duty killed Archeron Ashford, and forced the resurrection of Archeron Tyde, I have been mostly in this city and hated the feel of never being alone. Always there is noise of people, never nature or animals, but people. I could feel them pressed in.

Perhaps in my advancing years I find myself admitting that maybe I enjoy the people, or maybe I am deadened to the noise. Certainly I am content. Happy even. Maybe that is a gift from Radhilde and the Children.

It has been about two weeks since my last missive, and I've not had a response as yet.

So much has happened in the past few years. So much. Many things important have been left to the side, a problem or an opportunity for another day because we had to engage in the battle of that time. Of that moment.

Now we find there are no more tomorrows for many of these problems, for many of these opportunities. It must be today. Or perhaps it should have been yesterday. And often we pay the price for that. Because many of these choices, they come with consequences. We save a great many, but to do so leave others to fend. And they fall.

Knowing you did the right thing, it is a small comfort. Because you go back over every moment where perhaps you could have been finding time for the other things.

Since I decided to stay in Arx because of Joscelin and her baby, I've most definitely changed. Change is good. New beginnings are good. I never thought I would settle down - although in terms of settling, I am sure many would argue I'm hardly settled at all - but whereas I could never even IMAGINE having a house, and actual duties a few years ago, now that just feels like more adventure and fun in my life. I don't feel that I have sacrificed anything, on the contrary, I have only gained more.

I take more joy in the smaller adventures these days, though I certainly love the big ones just as much. But it is exciting to find a new chest of drawers to the house, now, as an example. Or - and I never thought I'd say this - find a good /book/ to read.
