Relationship Note on Dariel

Lord Dariel's assistant, Marcel is likely the worst message bringer in the entire world. In the past he has tried to interpretive dance the messages but yesterday takes the cake!

Instead of giving me the message, he comes to my home with a watermelon under his shirt and proceeds to pant and puff until the Watermelon is between his knees. At this point he lost control of the watermelon and it sailed through the air and smashed against the wall coating my home in watermelon. He manage to even get it on the relics and arches. I had watermelon drop the next day on my files.

Lord Dariel. please find a new assistant, or at least don't let him near my home with fruit ever again.

Relationship Note on Icelyn

I have agreed to start the Lady Icelyn Acheron down the path of learning to better defend herself in situations where her bow is not as useful. This is, in many ways, a rarity, as this arrangement is not very far removed from how I perceive teaching a squire. However, the subject of me having a squire is another matter entirely.

We will be focusing on two major points of fighting, and meeting in the earlier hours of the day. As I said to her, the best time for lessons are in the morning just after a hearty meal. The body has nourishment and one feels more relaxed, a state that is typically the worst time to be attacked or to have to defend oneself and others. As such, she will learn not only to better respond to the unexpected, but she will also learn how to better defend herself at times when her guard is slightly lowered from that contented feeling of having enjoyed a delicious meal. Some may call the intention behind this method harsh, but to those who would say this I would ask how often /they/ have fended off an ambush over breakfast.

A pleasant dinner at the Malvici residence hosted by Lord Martino. The meal and wines were delicious and I got to see an old friend had not seen in a while. Lady Lethe was there, and she had been in my thoughts the last few days.

Three, my twins turned three on October 11. Their bedtime story included the tale of their heroic father and that the warmth they felt when cuddling down to sleep was his love surrounding them. Before they could ask too many questions, I reminded them of their birthplace, Saikland Greens and spent time telling them about it. It reminded me of their Auntie Eirene and Lady Lethe who helped them into the world. I miss Eirene and wish she would come back to Arx from Southport.

Relationship Note on Eleanor

Though we work together closely, it is rare that the Lord Commander and I find time to truly sit and catch up.

We rectified that this week and I am glad we did. Time spent in Dame Eleanor's company is always well spent.

Relationship Note on Pharamond

Lord Pharamond Ashford is a perfect gentleman and a perfect tutor. No matter how much I falter, he never loses his patience or good humour. Nor does he allow training to become a game and lose its usefulness.

In short, I love him.

I hope that you've ventured out of your rooms by now. Got some air. Stretched your legs. That sort of things

On the matter of heresy and excommunication, I have only this to offer...

The Faith led by the Gods as they are and entrusted with the Gods will as they are and meant in every way to guide us rightly as they are allows for redemption. Should a heretic instead be a rebel and instead of claiming the dominion of speaking for a God they claimed the sovereign right of speaking as a liege... On their right and proper lieges land... They would not be given redemption as a road. They would find exile if they were lucky and utter ruin in the more probable outcome.

Any Peer that finds the Faith's measure to harsh mayhap is to soft to rule their lands. Mayhap they are to soft to bring shavs to heel. Mayhap they are to soft to deal with criminals that we all must see to in the day to day administration of our demense. Mayhap they have forgotten it is not only the Faith that makes decisions for the betterment of all but the Peerage too.

Give sympathy, not for heretics nor rebels. Were they inflicted upon you and what you are duty-bound to protect you would be no kinder and if you were than you would be a poor caretaker.

My day and night in the Shrine of Jayus was inspiring, to say the least, but of an odd sort.

I was inspired with desire to create but not the /what/ to create. I felt myself struggling to climb a wall to see just over the feeling of inspiration.

In the end I was left motionless and in mystery about it.

Our crafters and artists are indeed gifted and are a cut above the non-specifically inspired such as myself.

Relationship Note on Amari

While I am not a scholar by any means, the last week or so with Amari in the Archives has been enjoyable. Perhaps tedious at times, when looking through so many books and scrolls and notes, but doing it with her as been fun. And we can keep each other motivated, perhaps not intensely focused, as we get distracted by our conversations and shared excitement over the topic we are studying.

Relationship Note on Rinel

I think scholar, you rather prove my point - there are parts of the Faith and the knowledge of our ways that only come with the sacrifice of Godsworn, and you are not privvy to. And in that there is risk in you engaging and believing you can offer a route back to the Faithful for the excommunicated. But you will notice I did not say you could not, I said it was headstrong and foolish of you to do so. It seems there are plenty of others who wish to provide succour who do not have the delicate past you have - but if you feel it is a duty on you, then you should do what you feel is right. But, that will not stop me worrying none the less. Nor will your ill-considered words.

Sometimes I see the yellow-gold moon outside my window and I long for Greenhaven with all the fierceness in my heart, ache for its glow above me, for the forest floor beneath my feet and the green scent of true life all around me. I catch the smell like a spirit from the past, teasing and illusionary, and it carries me home just for a moment.

Such is the stuff of memory. A beautiful double-edged sword.

Strongtall and Half-Mast have been out of Arx for a handful of weeks now, having rode out for more northern parts to wave a torch or two around at a bit of a mystery that has been chewing on my boot for a year and more. Half ain't exactly known for being loud but somehow it's a lot quieter still with him gone and I find I laugh about half as much without Strong's jokes even if they ain't funny.

You get used to having folks around, everything you like about 'em and the things you don't realize you like until they're gone. I don't know where I am going with this. I expected to have the both of 'em back before winter set in and the word what came today has it so that ain't so. I guess I worry, that's all. Then again, it ain't like the pair of 'em have never been through a northern winter.

I am lucky to have the loyalties of the folks I keep it with.

I do not feel as anyone might read my journals, they are just for me and thoughts I might share with the world. Ramblings. Musings. I am alright with this. There has been so much talk about the wrongs and the rights of public decisions and declarations. I am not one to speak for my faith on a whole, but I may speak on my faith on a personal wit.

Oh my beloved reader who might find this. I pray only that the darkness of your heart is lifted up to Limerance and that you let his love flow through you. There are times that feel dark, but please remember that they are most darkest to you; when your dawn is upon the horizon. There is always hope. There is always change. I have read some of the journals and I am excited for everyone's passion in their faith. It is a glorious thing! It is breath-taking in the beauty that it is created and fills us. That we choose our steps, not just by our desires, but by our callings and how we hear and feel that call.

I do not believe it is meant that one knows the true heart of the faithful. We must do what we can to love each other and to be loved by each other. We may choose to bestow charity if our heart believes we are following our calling. We may choose to deny it as well, if we feel it might crumble the path or enshrine our walk with barbs instead of petals.

Love is the cornerstone. Love is the importance, but there is a duty that comes with love.

We must honor our oaths, even if they are not the popular ones. We must stand devoted in our sacred trust. Part of that trust and oath, is to look over those that we shepard. This could be our family. Our friends. Our church. Those that have entrusted their walk to our leadership. We must believe that every oath out there is one of morality and honor. We are to be creatures of honor. If one of us mis-steps in our guidance or our choices, we must believe that the Gods will alter our path to steer us.

I will not speak to what path a person should walk, because that is not mine to decide. I will just say that we must act in love and we must act with justice, faith, devotion, and honor.

It is my solemn prayer to all that reads this - that you feel your soul uplifted. That you feel your heart expand in knowing you are loved by the Gods and that you are crafted to love. I pray that your dark moments are dimmed beneath the brilliance of your hope and your faith. I desire you to know you are not alone and that you are the perfect being that you can be; because you are the only you that exists. I pray that we may focus on the good in life, even when presented with things that threaten to break our hearts.

If you wander across my journal and read it. I pray only that you are left better by it.

I must admit that I appear to have missed all the excitement of having a heretic professing themselves as a prophet of Aion! I have to say that I hold Aion very close to my heart alongside Jayus--and all the other gods of course!--and I can certainly see how in this age of heroes people would jump at the chance to be able to talk to someone who was actually speaking with the voice and authority of one of the gods. Why, I even remember someone at a duel once trying to pass themselves off as the very god Skald himself! Luckily that had little impact except to inspire a bunch of Skaldia and Skalder names that next month and I don't remember the man staying around to preach in the streets or anything like that.

So, I suppose what I'm saying is that I'm rather glad to have missed it all for no doubt I would have been one of the ones caught up in the fantastical nature of it all until things were set straight by the Faith. And then I should have felt very badly for not seeing through what sounds like an incredibly good act!

I do hope that those at the center of this mess find their way again and are able to seek forgiveness and atone for what they've done. And that the most long-lasting thing to come of this is a burst of Aionnia and Aionette names.

You are the cherry blossoms
that cup the sunshine
as if they create the light,
as if the sky is only blue

because of them, and I am the pale
cinnamon of a paperbark maple,
your indrawn moon, a borrowed glow.

The understory climbs into the heavens
like angels on a green-leafed ladder and
I shall not name the ones I love,
for fear of uprooting them.

My brother, my mother, my sister,
my friend, who cup sunshine and create light:
the sky is more than blue.
