Fuck you for telling me I couldn't become a sellsword because I was too young and soft.
Thanks for releasing me from my vows though so I could go home where I belong. You were vile in a lot of ways and I'm glad you're dead but getting mauled to death by a bear isn't the way I was hoping you'd go.
Say hello to Titania for me!!

It makes me hopeful that the wrongs that have been done may be rectified with effort and the Oathlands made stronger for it.

Flattering.
It worked.
I do hope the recipient enjoyed it. The poor northerner braved my forge in the heat of summer and sat near to the point of fainting to see it made. Well worth the commission.

This is a time that requires careful deliberation and thoughtful decisions. Both seem to be in short supply. But then, I suppose I have the luxury of perspective, here in Arx, learning of the worst of this crisis only through messengers and reports.

Let us not confuse Sentinel's Justice with our own mechanisms of justice. And let us not also lose sight of the intent behind those mechanisms: the protection of innocents.
The Sentinel sees all. The aspect of Justice has no need for drawn out procedures of jurisprudence- which are in fact mortal constructs. Because It sees all there is no need for 'innocent until /proven/ guilty', there is only 'Innocent' or 'Guilty'. Mortals, being frail and faulted and of limited perception, require procedures to make these determinations. The Sentinel has no use Itself for investigatory procedure, interrogation, grand juries... These are our own devices. Do not attribute the crutches we invent and use to overcome our mortal limitations to the God of Justice, for they are frail by their very nature.
BUT the determination of guilt is not the only trait of Justice, even if we tend to highlight its importance above the others.
Sentinel's Judgment is also immediate. It sees. It judges. Speed, immediacy, are part of It's Justice. This is why we condone no indefinite or lengthy sentences of imprisonment. This is why trial by combat is encouraged. It is why trial by courts is to be swift and decisive. And it is why in so many instances Church canon, Dominus decretal, orthodoxy and, yes, dogma, are superior in honoring Justice than some slow mortal construct of procedure or investigation that seeks to transcend facts in misguided compassion to 'find out why' or 'understand' - all the while merely delaying justice itself.
Such an example is violating Church sanctuary. There is no excuse. There is no mitigation. There are no extenuating circumstances. The only question is who did it, at whose behest did they do it, and what will be done with them.
Another example is organizing a heretical splinter group that challenges the veracity and authority of our Dominus, the breaking of one's Godsworn vows, and inciting others to do same. Here there is no question of who. There is only a question of when will justice be served. For what is there to understand and unify in the face of mutiny? Ask any naval officer: nothing.
Yet another example is the sanctity of Vellichor's archives and the writings entrusted to the Blacks. There is no excuse for violation of penitent privileges. The commission of the sin costs your tongue and a hand.
But the gravest injustice is the killing of innocents in the name of Justice Itself: whether they are compact-born, prodigal or abandoned. Whether high or low born.
The Sentinel is the patron of the righteous and the innocent and it matters not where they were born or to whom they've bent a knee. If any of the peerage believe membership in the Compact bestows upon them some special consideration under the Sentinel, they are sorely mistaken. It cares not what cards you hold or for your birthrights. Rather, the opposite is true. It is your birthright and duty to approximate the ideals we worship in your governance. Your only birthright as regards the Pantheon is the privilege of proximity to shrines and establishments, and the foundation of a society that allows you to more easily access the wisdom of the Thirteen. As such, you are not judged more laxly: you are scrutinized more heavily.
Calling upon the Sentinel as Justification for the murder of innocents is purest blasphemy. Any House or tribe of honest and righteous disposition victimized by such murders has not only sanction but a divine mandate to defend themselves and call upon their allies to rally forces - whether military or diplomatic - and combat the unwarranted persecution and slaughter of their innocents be any means necessary: be it waggling tongues across a table, or waggling spears on the battlefield. Justice is not done until the murder of innocents is halted and those responsible duly sentenced.
