Relationship Note on Thena
After reading through a stack of white journals scholar, I felt I should note that the Grandmaster Thena is an astoundingly exceptional woman. So too is the Grandmaster Preston, but his journal while supportive didn't strike the same chord. Nobles are supposed to conduct themselves in a certain way and commoners are too? I've never been certain about this but likely because I didn't care as much as I should've. Which is why some of the peerage look askance when I work with my bare hands instead of asking someone else to do it for me. What I will say is that Thena, sometimes what we're told as children can seem wrong and that maybe it shouldn't be so. /Anyone/ who has conducted themselves admirably should be looked up to and respected, but it is something that should be earned and not simply expected.

My Gods! An anonymous admirer has left for me the most peculiar of paintings. How has this come to pass? What is the identity of the artist who has envisioned the abstract perfection of this ripe disembodied ass? And who, I wonder, was the model? The Orthodoxy has certainty - and it manifests itself in two ways. One is the path I follow. The protection of what is important, fighting for what you know is right. That way is not as friendly, certainly not forgiving, and brings with it destruction. It is clearing the weeds so the garden might bloom. Yet. If all you ever do is destroy, there is nothing to grow. Nothing to bloom. And your destruction is for nothing.
The other path it opens is one of wisdom drawn from those traditions that are held dear, and the comfort - the sense of belonging those traditions provide. The instant bonds it can create. Such a path finds no greater champion than Seraph Ailith. She nurtures and helps people grow. She plants the seeds of the world that will be. Relationship Note on Norwood
Baron Norwood. That's going to take awhile to get used to, I'm sure I'll botch it more than once and still refer to him as Sir Norwood. However, I have a feeling he'll understand. I highly doubt Duskshire could have been graced with a more just ruler with such a strong sense of honor, and his long years of dutiful and valorous service have made him exactly the sort of person deserving of elevation. I wish Baron Norwood the best, and shall endeavor to assist him in any way he shall require.

Seraph Ailith is simply one of the most intelligent, wise, compassionate, and empathetic people I have the honor of having gotten to know recently, and I thank the Gods for her. Several times now have I spoken to her for counsel, and never come away feeling anything other than how to proceed with more clarity. She does her office and the Faith a great deal of credit.

I met goodman Harlex Valtyr in that new coffee place, Bold Espressions. We talked, we made introductions to other friends, and given his background as a mercenary of the Crimson Blades with several campaigns under his belt, I put to him the question: What does being a soldier mean to you?
His answer was fairly succinct:
"A soldier fights and kills, they turn the wheel of history. They can do it for any reason or no reason at all. But being a mercenary is the purest form of a soldier. Master to themselves and beholden only to coin, their comrades in arms, and their own beliefs."
As with the previous answers given to me, I've felt the need to turn it over in my head and think carefully about it. There's depth to it, and this pleases me.

Relationship Note on Tikva
Our boy will be a year old in less than a month's time. I held him this evening while he slept peacefully. He looked so sweet. He can be a terror when he is awake, for he is louder than even our beloved Tiber. I broke up an "argument" between the two of them the other night while you were out taking care of one duty or another-- It went something like this:
Tiber: Ash!
Asharion: Ty'errr! (He tries but he can't quite say Tiber's name yet.)
Tiber: ASH!
Asharion: AAUUURRR!!
Tiber: ROOARR!
Asharion: AAAAHHH!!!!
TIber: ROOARRR!
I was worried they'd do that for the rest of the night... So I distracted Asharion with that smiling potato (who gave that to you?) and Tiber with dinner.
It's hard to believe it has been a year. This amazing, loud boy we made was born almost a year ago. It seems to have passed in the blink of an eye. Will it be like this for his entire life? Will I look back one day and he will be a full grown man? No longer tucked up against my chest, sucking on his thumb (I know I'm supposed to stop him from doing that but it's too precious), sleeping quietly after screaming his head off for an hour?
I am torn-- I don't want him to change from this precious child he is, but at the same time ... I cannot wait to see the man that was raise together.
Will he take to the sword? To archery? To neither? Will he sing like his mother? Will he have my *terrible* sense of humor? What will he take from us and what will he forge new?
Here's to our first here with him, and to many more to come.

Had the opportunity to meet the Mirari the Sword, or the talons, or what have you. Despite being confused as to how and why someone would choose Arx over Setarco -- I hear it is wonderful this time of year -- it was a fun time all around and a good opportunity to blow windbags at another to pass the time. Keep clear of those talons, though.

The son is now four months old. There is less bodily fluids being emitted, but now everything he touches seems to go straight into his mouth. Sometimes he will hit himself in the face with the toy and cry, giving you a look as if to ask, "Why did you do that, dad?"
