I have, in what short measure of years that I have been permitted thus far, seen in my days linen blouses with stitch-work seams straighter and sharper than the edge of one of Dame Ida's best blades. I have held in my hands cotton skirts that were softer and smoother than rose petals. Also, have I worn a wool cloak that was richer and warmer than the finest fox fur. Of course, I have also been dressed in shimmering seasilk that flowed over me like water and I have beheld the marvel of an aeterna gown which appeared to me more brilliant and bright than the sun. Jayus grants to only a blessed few with the skill to translate His divine inspiration into something made real that the rest of us might witness His gifts. In praising them, we are praising Him.

For the opening of the Crafter's Gallery, I know neither who created nor who modeled the item(s) that my sponsorship on behalf of House Valardin purchased. Nor do I need to. All that matters to me is that Jayus was honored both by the artists and by those in attendance. Silver spent to praise the gods is silver well-spent.

Relationship Note on Percephon

Recently, my husband wrote in his journal about a certain gown he had gifted to me.

He wrote: "Much like marriage, Dame, the waiting was worth it."

I've already written about Morrighan's beautiful work (the gown is to die for), but this.... this is about my husband.

The waiting was so worth it.

There was a series of moments to wait through... and some times, I thought I might be driven mad for the waiting. Sometimes, I found myself counting the days, which is completely unlike me, truly. But everything, every single moment; from highs to lows and back up, those bits of impatience born from eagerness, the quiet times when I was wanting to shout about love and happiness.... every single moment - worth it.

I cannot believe in just a couple months it will be a full year already! We've been so busy, we never even held the reception Reigna was so anticipating... I suppose an anniversary party will be in order. A whole year of being your Lady-wife. I truly am the luckiest woman in the entire world to be married to the absolute best husband all around.

I could say, I can't wait until we are celebrating our fifth, tenth, twentieth anniversaries and beyond! But.... I know....

It will be worth the wait.

Always.

Gentle Readers,

I apologize for not having made an update to the whites for quite some time. Marius and I have been away to the Greenwoods for a short trip. Though I have just returned to Arx, Marius has chosen to stay behind for now. I shall miss him, but I know his reason is wise and our projects at home will be better off for his personal attention. I do hope he can return soon though.

In catching up on the whites, I must admit that sometimes I find it highly amusing to simply see the manner of things that people argue over. It can be quite enlightening to the character and personality of those involved in the argument to simply see what leads them to such impassioned discussions. I suppose everyone has their topics, mundane or otherwise, that they simply cannot walk past without comment.

As to myself, there are a few projects here that require my immediate attention; but if there are other issues then I shall be making contact once more with friends and family to lend my aid as needed. For those that have been waiting on me, please know that I shall reach out to you quite soon so that we may continue our work.

Cotton? Surely if you're going to turn from silk, leather would be the choice fabric. On most given days that is my go to fabric, because my pockets are not deep enough to afford a steelsilk ensemble.

Relationship Note on Morrighan

My husband is correct! I love the amazing gown he recently gifted to me! (Complete with cloak and slippers.) It is silk, yes. I happen to LOVE silk, truly. Most of my gowns are just that. I know I am -just- a shaman, -just- one of those northerners and who are we to speak of fashion? A fashionista, I may not be... but... I have a wardrobe that many are green with envy over, and yes, many outfits made by the amazing Dame Morrighan. The truth of the matter is, I would wear a gown of BURLAP if it was made by her. For she has the talent to turn anything into an absolute work of art. Whereas.... I could take a piece of the finest fireweave and turn it into something you wouldn't even let your animal companion wear.

The art and the beauty is not in the material, but in the craftsmanship. And if it is made by Morrighan? You can bet the garment is one of the absolute finest in the lands!

The gods, or whomever arbitrate such things, have decided to test us it seems.

More specifically me. They've decided to test me.

Who in their right minds could consider silk and cotton - no matter how well refined - to be even close to equivalent?

After much soul searching, I think I know what kind of protege that I want to cultivate. A steward or steward-in-training that can help me organize all the reconstruction efforts. Or even maybe help me find a proper residence. Maybe afterwards I can branch into a Champion or someone to help me throw social activities, but really I just need someone strong in economics and stewardship.

This is why I find it so important to TALK to your CRAFTERS. Engage them, discuss what you want, work with them to see your vision. We are good, the best in Arx, but we are not mind readers. If you send us a messenger with a scrap of paper expressing your desire and nothing more, you will always get OUR best but you might not get what YOU expected. Stop viewing crafters as your presonal attendants, a commodity to demand things from. We are people, we have feelings.

As for the sudden disinterest in silk, what do you think steelsilk is?

I dreamt I was standing in the bottom of a well, with the water slowly rising. Above me the moon slowly turned blood red and I hear screams in the distance.

The city is still as it always has been, and yet so much about the people within has changed. The air is clouded with a sinister mass as if one has burnt all that is good and the smoke of that burning still lingers. This could, of course, simply be my reaction to leaving my quiet, peaceful life in the countryside to return to the hub-bub of cosmopolitan life. I am grateful, at least, that the Grayson Estate gardens remain as startlingly beautiful as ever.

Naturally with so many of my kin lost to us, it feels more bittersweet to sit there now. So often I would advise or counsel my young granddaughter or my great-niece in those gardens... I am not one prone to emotional over-reaction, but I cannot help but feel mournful among the shrubbery.

I certainly hope this feeling will ease. There's much to be done.

Oh my, darlings. What a state this place is in!

Goodness, I leave you all for a few months, sailing and adventuring you know, and the whole city is dancing to a different tune.
Unfortunately, it looks as if there's not enough hip-swaying involved in this number, so I'll have to dance on my own again.

Please don't remind me how long it has been since you all last saw me, I detest feeling old.

'Ello, Arx. It's been a while. Been a while since I came to talk to a Scholar, too.

'Ang on, why the bigger letter at the front of Scholar? What're you tryin' to... oh. Right. Never mind. I got things to do.

My thanks to Master Voss, who carried out my testing for the Explorers today.

And managed not to laugh at my being slapped in the face with a pine branch.

Hopefully I shall be able to be of some small aid to the Society in future.

Relationship Note on Paige

On occasion, some spry young man or woman will bound into the shop hoping to commission a weapon, generally on the recommendation of people far too generous with their words about my craftsmanship. When then-Huntsman Paige did so what does not seem that long ago, she was so full of promise and life as well as a kindness that was quite genuine. Her enthusiasm was hard not to get caught up in and the title of Countess only seemed to further her desires to do well for the Compact. I made her two weapons and my heart swelled such joy and pride when I later met her husband, Count Magnus, who told me how much she loved those pieces. I have them now and that same heart breaks a little when I look upon them.

I want this to be very clear: Forgiveness is only afforded to those who are actually sorry. If you come for my friends, I will never forget it.

Few are those who I would count close to my heart.

Lady Elara was one of them.

I shall cherish her pin until the end of my days, even if right now its mere sight brings me to tears all over again.
