Social politics of the peerage and that 'nobility obliges' thing are just SO weird, aren't they? The system's all composed of both social elements AND political elements and all those interactions between them get so sticky. It's like when you add the white stuff to sour wine and it all sort of fizzes up in your face. It makes a HUGE mess (and it's pretty fun.) I feel like asking where does governance come from or on what do we base governance on? Even if I'm pretty sure that our systems sit on top of our social systems. Like layers in rocks. Maybe, also like rocks - if you throw them into a body of still water there's gonna be ripples. WHEW.

Having been reassured on the degree to which Prince Barric's behavior reflected the feelings of House Grayson (and thank you, Princess Sabella and Prince Laric for addressing my concerns with swiftness), then it does seem that it's a case of individual untoward behavior.
It is my strong suggestion to His Highness, Prince Barric, that he apologize to the honorable Marquis, and his family, and seek repentance at the Shrine of Gloria for refusing the obligation which the goddess of war and honor has laid upon us. I am certain that Archlector Cassandra, or one of the Templars can help him discover his honor and courage once more. More, I suspect that a sizable donation to the Whisper House and apology for petulant behavior towards a Softest Whisper would not go amiss.

While I do not speak as a Voice for House Grayson, I can assure the Legate that House Grayson has only the greatest respect for our vassal houses and that this will be reflected in actions and/or statements by the actual Voices themselves very soon I am sure.
I would also like to extend a personal and public invitation to Marquis Leary for Grayson family dinner night this week! All of our vassals and family friends always have an open invitation to attend as we are very interested in hearing what you have been up to so that we might be as supportive as possible!

House Grayson enjoys affable ties with House Leary. It is both an honor and a privilege for me to support the House's heir, Lord Tomwell, as a protege. Lady Elloise serves the Crown honorably through the Inquisition, and I personally mentor their close cousin, Princess Caith Thrax, a keen intellect in spite of her excitable tendencies.
Prince Barric's actions today are not representative of the House as a whole and I am confident His Majesty's voices will deal with the situation appropriately.

It is, frankly, expected behavior from Prince Barric. This is a man who has walked out on a spar with me because he was losing and I called him out on having thrown a childish fit over me telling him to stop asking me for sex, then tried to get me in trouble for it.
Thrax is truly getting a winner here, but at least Elvesbane will end up in better hands.

A Grayson Prince - not just any Prince, but the Sword of Grayson and bearer of the House honor - has claimed that the head of house of one of Grayon's own Marches "isn't worth the cost" of an honor duel, after apparently disrespecting and insulting the man in public. This is deeply disturbing behavior from a Great House in any situation, but to have the Sword of a Great House treat one of his fealty's own vassals with such contempt is...nearly unprecedented.
Does this actually reflect how Grayson views the Leaholdt, I wonder. If not, I would expect to see this addressed swiftly, and in no uncertain terms. If so, then it feels as if it is a contempt which could have been communicated with the dignity and gravity expected of the House of the Crown, rather than in having one's honor-bearer refuse an honor duel.

I occasionally wonder about people who go on about the respect they 'deserve'.
I've always felt that, aside from a few instances, a public outcry about it on your own behalf lessens your stance.

I saw The Playwrights last night! It was very good and very funny.
I was in the front row so I did actually see the majority of it. While I thank Sir Jeffeth for his kind offer, I don't believe I'd've been able to see the play any better sitting on his shoulders.

Fought with the Sword-Prince the other day at knives. Even with my skill, which is to say I know which end to hold and how to actually cut a bitch, he still managed to keep out of my reach and we fought to a draw. He got a few good cuts in.
I have to admire a man who can manage to fight with a weapon he doesn't know based on his raw ability and training in other disciplines.

So I have better friends than I truly deserve.
My ultimate thanks and love goes out to Princess-Consort Alarissa, Legate Orazio, Grandmaster Thena, Countess Guildmistress Reigna, Goodwoman Mirari, and Softest Whisper Seadrus.
They gave me the best baby gift ever- a utilitarian umbra coat I can hide baby toys in. And knives. And medical kits. And herbs. And spit-bibs. It's gorgeous and will serve me well.
I was speechless for a rare moment in my life when it was delivered.
Also I should thank Baroness Lucia and Duchess Calypso for the baby gifts they gave too, though they know I'm thankful for them.

What an interesting individual! There is something about him that makes me think he could be quite the swordsman some day should he choose to go down that path but I don't know if that is the path he sees for himself. It's a lonely and far less social road than what otherwise could be taken and it is not for everyone but, I will definitely try to help and train him up if he wishes to continue down that path.

Had the pleasure of meeting Princess Avaline today at the Ambassador with Lady Isabetta. Wish I would have had more time to spend conversing before being interrupted but such is the nature of public places. It never fails to amaze me at the gall some people have in the way they show their disrespect. It does not bode well for their families.
Especially when they know they are in the wrong.

Instead of believing that a work of art must be something that all can behold - a poem, a painting, a book, a great monument - consider making your own life a work of art. You have yourself to begin with, and a time of uncertain duration with which to work on it. You do not have to remain what you are, and even though you may be quite content with yourself, I would argue that it would not be hard for anyone to think of something much greater that they might become. It need not be something spectacular or even something that will attract the notice of others. What it will be is a kind of excellence that you project for yourself, and then attain - something that you can reflect on, with honest self-appraisal, and be proud of.
