Relationship Note on Ciro
And so it pains me, truly, that I have lived through the circumstances that led to this situation, and I cannot explain how exactly it came to pass. In a swirl of chaos and smoke, in the throes of wild-eyed acting with a smattering of odd luck... We have become jointly responsible for a decrepit distillery on a southern island.
May the gods have mercy on us.

It is a hard thing to know what's coming and face it. There are things I hope to never forget the sight of. My childrens' smiles. Adalyn at weapons practice. Apollo bent over his bench. Ostria's sun-drenched patios, the way the sun falls through an arbor draped with wisteria, sunlight making green leaves and purple blooms luminous. The bit of burl on one of Count Corvini's bookshelves that looks like an affronted owl. The Kaleidoscope Garden. The map on the floor of the Society's main hall. The Tree of Joyous Thanksgiving. A horizon ahead, the bright sky above.
And then I think of the Clocktower. It is only a memory now, but Copper's lesson remains. Hold to Hope.
I will not forget.
I am afraid. But I am not alone.

Its far more crowded than I had hoped, people jammed together like stacked firewood. I suppose I should have expected it, I was warned it wouldn't be like home. I'll have to look into carving out a good space for my purposes.
First I should check in with the Marquessa, though. Get myself sorted. I'll have to see what I can do to make myself useful. I can't wait to see all the animals, though. I'm told there's quite the menagerie that can be found here!

I'm not sure that such is really true, but I can say this - slow and steady is how my guide book is being written. I hope to have the first portion of it out for the public soon, and then on to the second half, if the gods permit me the time in Arx to do it...

I heard it was a glorious affair and did much toward the efforts going to the rebuilding of the Cathedral. I hoped the pieces I did helped in that regard. Even if not, it sparked a bit of fire in me to create more. Sometimes getting lost in thought, paint, and canvas can be a good way to forget the frustrations and worries of the world. I have too many of them these days.

All old product is being put to ship, And will soon sail for troubled waters. A /gift/ to our enemies so that they might be given a taste for the future that awaits them. We must not falter, we must not fail..
With the parting of the old product it makes room for the new mixtures and infusions that have for so long now danced within my mind on far too many a sleepless night.
Ah the excitement and anticipation of a new adventure, and this most certainly will be an adventure..

Relationship Note on Medeia
Returning to the Seraceni Manor one morning, still quite drunk, but having threatened some scholars the previous night into a daring raid of the Stacks (judge me not, Archscholar Sina, should you read this: it was for the greater good, I swear it) and having found something useful to add to the Prince Sebastian's research, I encountered some well dressed courtiers on their way to my neighbor's estate, that of Baroness Calla Vaevici. These courtiers spoke glowingly of a Lady Medeia Eswynd who'd recently married. Envy, perhaps, or cynicism, caused my eyes to roll, as I stumbled into my own manor to make some final preparations.
Having met Lady Medeia, I would say that the compliments paid her are wanting. Few live up to their reputation, and those who exceed it are rarer still. If you are not yet acquainted with her and are now inspired, you may send messengers of gratitude to the Seraceni Manor, for few wonders will enthrall you more than kindness, courage and intelligence, squeezed into a five foot noblewoman.

I'm looking forward to the inevitable rematch when the four of us will meet again. Or did it become the six of us? I can't keep track.

Relationship Note on Valencia
I've mentioned in passing to friends, in recent weeks, about the fact that I would find it beneficial to learn to ride and get a horse of my own for journeys to and from Oakhaven. Princess Valencia of the Hart has been a receptive audience to some of these discussions and, this week, inquired, if I would be desiring to accompany her on rides in the forests near the city. The ride was beautiful, and we saw a number of deer - who escaped unscathed, unlike we - before returning to the city.
I know not if I have it in me to fall from the saddle as much as she mentions needs be done to be considered a 'horseman', but... words cannot express my gratitude at her kindness to give me an opportunity to pursue this want of mine.

There are those among us that collect titles with as much vigour as they collect ships. At first I thought this was a silly fancy, but they reminded me the importance of earned titles. They do not define who we are, not truly, but they define what we are to society. Some roles are defined to us by birth, others by the time we spend committed to a cause. A legendary tailor will always be a legend, and though they might have other interests, that is the burden they have chosen. One, though, is born with noble titles. It is a privilege that is given by birth but earned through action throughout a lifetime. But imagine if a tailor could only have tailor children? What pressure would this place on the children to be the best tailors? That is the way of nobility. It is a short title, in terms of letters, but a powerful one we must live our lives to earn.
This all comes back to, of course, mint. A passing fancy of a certain lord has turned mint into a craze (maybe brief, maybe everlasting). We now have 196 different types of mint, and to collect them all, it would cost about the same as building twelve ships (I haven’t actually checked the math on this). So twelve ships worth of mint! That’s quite the escalation of a herb that, basically, grows like a weed. I hope others find the humor in this that I do, and that not too many gardens are ruined by this overgrown garden herb. That one store owner took a fancy and turned it into something great is a reminder of the importance of the system. One person’s interest has turned into a profitable endeavour. There are many benefits to this partnership between nobles and commoners. Just like with mint (seriously, I have learned all the benefits of mint, and wow there are many! They’re not just a drinks garnish as I originally took it for).
But somewhere between noble titles, vocations, and mint, there is morality. I have no answers here. Only questions. Doing the right thing isn’t always easy, but titles give us focus, and are a reminder to who we are to society.
