It is surprising how much a fresh coat of paint and someone with an eye for detail can transform a room from being tired and worn and something that depresses the soul, to something delightful.

I had a brilliant idea, and it was so brilliant that I managed to talk a friend into agreeing that it was exactly that brilliant, and so together we shall conspire to enact it. It shall take a little time, a little energy, but in the end, I am quite confident that it shall be quite the success.

I made a skull made of cake this week. Red velvet and dipped in white frosting, carefully carving it away until it looked almost real. Then I etched flowers along the temples, down the mandible, and made a rose of candy to sprout from its teeth.
I left it somewhere as a gift to Death.

I can tell when something is amiss when not even the feel of bared knuckles on bared skin rouses my interest.
This is not prideful boasting, or a proclamation that I've achieved some sort of mastery of the spar - far from it.
It's as though the very ground beneath us is burgeoning, the moment before rupture, and I am unable to take my concentration away from it for fear that I might miss the moment it splits into a yawning chasm. Too much time to my own devices.
I need a drink, a tumble, or a fucking nap.

I am not entirely sure what pleases Gloria, but I hope the goddess of valor would smile upon one of the finest sparring bouts I've ever had the pleasure of partaking in. It was myself and Sir Austen against Sir Porter and Sir Brannen of the Knights of Solace and, even if my brother King's Own and I ultimately were taken down, I am still proud of how we held the field and defended one another, and in the end yielded with good knightly comportment. All honors to Sir Porter and Sir Brannen for their good and clean win, as well. It was a fine day which reminded me why it is both useful and fun to train outside the barracks, and I look forward to more matches like it. Next time, three on three!

I attended a wedding in the Thraxian ward the other day. I went along with Princess Sorrel, and we had a grand time discussing everything. Though I think Lord Wash does like to ask interesting and infuriating questions of her. Rocks do not have souls, indeed.
