I don't regret the Ripley Thornbrie. Not at all. Probably a good thing I slept in my forge after the meeting and didn't go home.

I'm not feeling sociable. I don't know why, I won't know why. It is, I guess, what it is. But i learned something and while I laid on my couch and trying to find my way out, I thought about the skull. I thought about what I was getting ready to make. About the little girl, village in tor and the well in the other. I can't get it out of my head. The commission was canceled and yet, it's stuck there like a bug, burrowed under the skin and growing, refusing to release. An itch I need to scratch. I need to excise it before it overtakes me.

My babies are finally one. With Asher's birthday, my birthday, and our dearest Whisper Anisha's birthday running so concurrently close together, it has been a full month of celebrations since May! There is nothing wrong with that since I love sweets, and enjoy baking them. Gifts! I love giving gifts too. It's the small things in life. My children are too small still to appreciate meaningful gifts, but we have introduced toddler beds into their lives. They can get down from them and find their way to our room if need be. I must reserve the cradle for the new baby anyway, and I'm not about to buy another cradle.

I'm not cheap. I'm practical.

After what seemed like months of preparation, I have finally arrived in Arx. It is with eagerness and anticipation that I prepare myself to explore a city that is so very different to The Cinder back in Cedar Vale, though one thing I've realised I didn't consider is how much warmer the weather is here, and set to get warmer still as we move from Spring into Summer. Fortunately I was given the name of a Messere Artiglio and I'm to meet with her for a consultation on my wardrobe, which is currently all brocades and velvets.

I've also uncovered something of a curiousity, and that is that every man of the Lycene whom I've met since arriving in the city has been the most incredible of flirts. I knew of their reputation of course, but to see it in action is a spectacle indeed.

No, cousin. You'll always be good enough. Pick yourself back up and try again.

My favorite stories, growing up, were of princes and princesses who overcame evil monsters and saved their kingdoms. However, since asking for people to nominate members of the commonfolk to be made into statuettes for the Marbelous Moldings ... I am beginning to think I may have been a very shallow minded child!

Relationship Note on Ophira

In speaking with a guest today I was reminded of how much I miss the graceful steps of my sister in the palazzo. Several times I sat at night in the water garden, drinking tea or rum, in quiet reflections on the war, or trade, or the events of the day. Ophira would walk barefoot up to the fountain: her company, like a guiding star on a clear night at sea. She would converse with me, and sometimes not - would drink with me, and sometimes not, would sometimes rest her head on my shoulder, or hum a beautiful tune.

I miss moving past the tablinium, and hearing the sound of her voice singing when she thought no one could hear her. I came in one night from a failed raid, covered in dried blood. I'd washed the gash in my arm with alcohol, and I should've applied fire, but I let Hob bandage it instead. Anne practically carried me to the gate, but by the time I'd gotten inside, I'd managed to shake off all assistance, and wandered toward the garden alone. There in the moonlight, Ophira was practicing the knife dance of Ischia. It is transporting sometimes to see the way a dolphin cuts the waves: a body in perfect, effortless motion. Such was the vision of Ophira dancing with her blades.

She has begun a new voyage, and before her lies a dangerous course, but she does not sail alone.

Ohhh, the shipment of glass keepsake boxes from the glass artisians have arrived. Three of them survived the trip in perfect condition. The colors are so rich they almost glow and shimmer when looking at them from different angles. One is the hue of the flames in Gloria's fire, another the hue of the waters in Mangata's shrine, and the last is the color of the leaves and grass when Lagoma's spring arrives. They are each unique, dated on the base and numbered. I hope they will sell well at the auction for helping restore the Cathedral.

I have created my very first painting that I intend to put up for auction at the Cathedral fundraiser! While I am sure it is no masterpiece and will pale beside all the rest I am quite pleased with my use of color and when Niklas saw it he praised my "use of color" and that I had used "lots of paint" to create "something utterly unique that is definitely a painting people will notice" and I could not be prouder!

Several people have approached me so far to show me absolutely gorgeous things! I think people will be quite interested in what Baroness Lucita is offering up and I've heard Princess Gwenna is painting and I just absolutely love that people are leaning into their creativity to help in such a wonderful project!

I can't wait to see what else people come up with!

Seek not political power, wise general.

Wisdom in warfare is the epitome of intelligence. Intelligence, however, is the antithesis to popularity. An opinion about the nature of the world is often so abhorrent to the people's sensibilities -- they use them without inspection and out of traditional habit -- that no man or woman seeking the approval of others dare affirm it in public. Although our leaders are not elevated by public opinion, it remains nonetheless important for all nobles to remain in good standing with their people and their peers, else they invite the sort of villainy and treachery later proclaimed just by ignorant victors.

Straightforwardness without civility is like a surgeon's knife: effective but unpleasant. Candor with courtesy is helpful and admirable, but of little use when a man is bleeding his life out onto a floor. Let those tasked with dissuading skullduggery seek and maintain political power, and remember, wise general, that you are their doctor: employed as necessary in their times of need and tasked often with completing the most dire and unpopular of tasks.

There is no virtue in political power.

Your story was an unexpected gift as it painted such a nostalgic image of home - I find that I miss it terribly. But more importantly than that, my brother, I'm glad that you were granted peace.

I've always been a fan of flaws. Flaws are beautiful. Imperfection is what makes a person engaging, interesting, and it makes them able to relate to others, to understand and forgive. And if you don't have any flaws, you may as well be dead already.

I have been reflecting on honour of late. What does it mean? How does one have the strength to do the honoorable thing, come what may?

It is a question that I think may have no answers until one is in the thick of things, and may not thereafter be able to explain.

I pray to Gloria that I will have the strength and honour that is right, should ever I find myself in such situations.

It feels like it has been years since I managed to put brush to canvas - and it may be true, for time seems to pass at an extraordinarily quick rate these days. So often I have stood before a canvas just over the past year with a blank mind and, as it would end up, an equally blank canvas at the end of the day.

After word from Princess Sabella, however, I managed to create two pieces that I'm rather proud of, even if they needed quite a bit of touching up. Both will be donated for the Cathedral Art Auction Fundraiser and, while modest, hopefully will fetch even a bit of silver to go toward the efforts.

These first days back in the city have been interesting to say the least, I have found myself wandering the taverns and inns in search of her. But all I find is new faces and those who are preparing for war. Banners called here and there across the city as men and women prepare to go to battle. And here I am seeking out some insufferable blonde for what is mine.

While so far these searches have been in vain it is my hope that one of these days I will find the proper inn or tavern..And the proper blonde.

Savor vengeance, wise general.

Many men have thoughts on the wisdom of vengeance. Some say it is more noble to forgive and more mannish to despise than to revenge an injury. Others say that revenge is profitable whereas forgiveness is expensive. Whether revenge is just or merely an emotion, a thousand scholars have spent a thousand pages memorializing their thoughts, opinions, and fantasies on the subject.

Let me spend one page for mine.

Vengeance is what it is. However we justify sating the appetite to see the pains inflicting on us inflicted upon others, there is no doubt a reaction based on circumstances. For some, it is sweet; others, it is bitter. As we can never truly know what is just to the Gods so it is that we can never be certain that how we feel is appropriate for the revenge we witness or cause. We can only be certain of the feeling itself.

And we are the most adept at convincing ourselves of the righteousness of our causes..
