Oh, a dilemma if there ever was one... I have such stockpiles of dress material and weapon material, but they could sell for so much in the current market... The choice between investing in oneself and one's pocketbook is such a strain.

The line between 'temporary market adjustment' and 'new normal' is razor thin. I have alternative means of effecting change... but I do worry.

I'm very thankful for my family, they are always a source of support and love, and during times like now, I know I can count on them. In these coming days, weeks, months I pray that we will continue to stand strong together, to support one another, and face what is to come.

I am saddened to hear of the riots that have happened recently in the city due to the lack of food for those in need of it, as well as the merchants growing angry over the current state of our market and economy, due to the whirlpool in the harbor. And even further more to hear that peoples homes have been looted by thieves. I deeply hope we can find ways to overcome these issues together. I know that the Lodge of Petrichor has plans in the works to reach out and offer assistance and training, to help with the food shortage.

As to the centipedes, that is deeply worrisome.

Relationship Note on Kedehern

Less then a month away now, I will be happy to no longer be waddling, as my husband like's to call how I walk. Let it be known, I will get him back for saying I waddle. I think he will get permanent dipper duty, at the very least.

It should be clear to everyone that enemy forces are actively fomenting this unrest. Gloria favors us by giving us the discernment to see visible enemy action. The economic pain of the whirlpool naturally falls heaviest on those least able to absorb its injury. Whispering madness into the ears of the hungry and frightened leads them to rash action. If the enemy had been less greedy, less hungry for our pain, they could have kept working these cracks until they drove us apart.

But the wicked are greedy and venal. The tide of stinging insects -- a horror that could only be the product of nefarious forces -- struck out in the open. It was an act of terror meant to break our resolve. They wanted to show us the extent of their diabolic power.

We are given a choice. We can succumb to the wickedness all around us. We could tear each other apart, shatter the bonds of the Compact, and descend into barbarism. I know to some this is a tempting path. There are hurts that have not been tended. Some may think they would stand to rise high in a war of all against all. Others may think they have nothing left to lose. But this is a fool's gamble.

We are only strong when we stand together. I would call upon my fellows to offer succor to those in need so we may rally together under the same banner. The enemy exploits the fractures in our society to drive us apart, so we must tend those wounds so we may be strong enough to resist their ongoing campaign. We can only build a more durable Compact once we have fended off the forces of darkness, and we may only do so if we are one people.

I will aid those as I am able. Mine is not a wealthy county, but we are at war with forces that seek the destruction of all. I will be faithful to my oaths to the Compact, and work for the good of all.

I have committed my support to several important infrastructure projects, already well-resourced and sponsored by notable Ladies and Lords. At least one might help relieve the burden the harbour whirlpool is putting on Arx. Work should begin shortly. The sooner the better; the city looks to be at boiling point with the recent riots.

There aren't many folks in the world that can trust as many people as I'm able to; split between both hands with a few fingers left over, I'm lucky. Blessed, even. Got people I can count on to take care of mine if I need it, or take care of business if I can't. That kind of thing is worth more than anything you can hold in your hands, scholar.

Shit has hit the rafters a few times in the last fortnight, and before that the rise was threatened but didn't crest over until recently. Testing the mettle of friendships, nothing I've forged between me and others has been found wanting. It's not a thrill or smug recap; it's a relief, sacred and profound and I'm just so damn grateful for it all. If the world ends tomorrow, I've got hands that will hold me through it, but more besides to fight next to to keep it moving into the next sunrise. No small thing, that. Not a small thing at all.

It would be wise for nobility to avoid the Lowers. There is a tension there that a day of full bellies will not relieve. If the city be a body, then the Lowers is its gallbladder--and there is an excess of choler, at present. As any Physician will tell you, yellow bile causes anger, explosively, and when it is consumed in flame it results in black bile, which in turn promotes melancholia.

There will be a slow and steady burn, or there will be a conflagration. The wise will proceed with caution.

On an unrelated note, Decus Votorum is currently fixing all household necessities at cost--and freely, for those unable to pay. None should go hungry, especially because of a leaky pot.

You know what's great? When there's just been a riot in the Lowers involving thousands of hungry, desperate people angry about not being able to eat while the nobility has plenty, and then the next morning some noble swans in like they're the great savior of the masses. Trying to convince those hungry, desperate people that they're so much better than their peers, that they just want to help, that if all those people just uproot themselves from their homes and their lives and their city and sail away to some place they've probably never seen they'll be treated so well. That if they just agree to all come scrub /your/ fucking floors, and work /your/ fields, and crew /your/ ships, and wait on /you/ hand and foot, it'll all be so much better. Your motives are so transparent that glass isn't even enough to describe them, they might as well be tucked behind empty air.

There were people out there that got hurt. People who nearly died. People trying to save other people, people working long hours into the morning trying to heal those people, people trying to /feed/ those people enough that they wouldn't burn everything down. Where were you? Were you down there? Were you doing more than waving a sword around and ordering people to stop being angry about starving even if you were?

Are you all sitting up top chattering over brunch about how unreasonable and unruly the peasants have become? Tut, tut, tut over your tea? If you've got enough energy to pay heralds to shout your proclamations or write journals about how unsafe you feel in your big giant manors, I'm going to assume you weren't actually doing anything to try to help. The nobles, the commoners, and the godsworn who were doing that are all too busy trying to heal or sleep off the exhaustion from healing everyone else.

That's right. Prima Shard is being uppity. Everyone knows most of the Peerage would never just sit around behind their walls and only show up once things were safe again in order to try to exploit fear and pain to their own advantage. Upjumped commoners and all that. Surely, if I had been raised properly, I would know better than to dare criticize nobles being predictable nobles.

Bedlam has broken out not only in the Lowers but in the city markets.

Looting of homes and even noble estates has taken place.

At these times one must remember that Arx is not the home of the Peers. It is the home of the Royal Court. We are but guests in the capital, though I suspect many see Arx as their home now. Like all guests, we may offer aid if we wish it but retribution and condemnation of the commons of a domain not our own would be rather rude for a guest.

It is my hope that the commons remember that difficult times are when a liege will spill blood and silver for their well being. As surely as when the banners of war are called, the pain of our people is a cause to expend will and resources, for what other purpose does our wealth serve if not our people?

For the finely dressed luminaries of the Compact. Perhaps now is a time to pair fashion with sensibility. It would be terrible to hear of someone stripped to the smallcloths for the fortune of fabric covering their skin.

I will not soon forget the faces of those who proposed cutting through the dockyard riot as though clearing through a field of weeds. You disgust me, and should be ashamed to suggest such inhuman behavior with a straight face.

Not that I'm surprised to see it.
