Strange revelations bring as many questions as they do answers. Matters already personal to me grow more so in ways I couldn't have ever fathomed -- and yet perhaps on some level, somehow I did.
Silver linings in these trying times:
A new friend, always welcome. I can use them. A friend of a friend, and one I trust already, for I believe we are kindred spirits in a way, besides just a lack of sleep and love for our mutual friend. Thank you.
My brilliant protege's wise words giving me conviction that we are in fact capable of what we endeavor to do, because we are here and by no mistake. We can do it.
Poetry: I haven't written of last week's reading, but each new voice at a reading buoys me when my spirit wanes.

When I dreamed up the Safe Harbor House, I just wanted an alternative to the tragedy that would give orphans the ability to make a way for themselves when they came of age. I tried to set it up, with some generous help, in a way that it might sustain itself.
Thanks to the continued generosity of people like Maja Darling, we can get by with out having to go hand to mouth so much. That's good for the kids you know, and the staff, make it so they aren't so worried all the time.

What do roads and city walls mean to me. I was asked this, here are my answers.
Roads are connections. They're the reminder that we arn't alone. That there are others out there, and they are not so distant that we need be strangers to them. Roads are the promise of someplace waiting on the horizon when we need to go, and a reminder that others travel, for no road is built for only one of us.
City walls are a promise of protection, a promise that we will stand. It means more to me now, as an Iron Guardsman, than city walls meant to me as a boy on a farm. Then they meant only something distant and strange, something wondrous and intimidating. I can see how those same walls may mean that to those who have never been inside them, and worse to those who are not welcome. Yet I know that walls are why humanity yet stands. This city has two walls, one of stone, and one of iron.

At the urging of Lady Keaton, I have been practicing with a bow every afternoon for at least one hour a day. I cannot say whether or not I've discovered any particular talent as an archer, but I can say that I have discovered muscles I was never aware I had. And they are sore.
