Did you truly disagree on the topic of my beard being Best Beard?

We are no longer bros.

Relationship Note on Jaenelle

Wouldn't it be fun to be Princess Jaenelle, the Lycene Rose of Ledgers, Queen of Accounts and Slayer of Dread Potholes though? I mean, you likely wouldn't want to try and use such titles officially, but in casual correspondence and at social functions with family and friends it might be slightly amusing, for a little while.

Relationship Note on Josephine

There may be many negative things said in the white journals we keep, but I pen today a positive.

For weeks now I have been debating whether or not I should have armor made. The city at times has been dangerous (for those here during the Siege) and there are new foes marching in our direction. While no slight is meant against the Iron Guard, it is simple fact that there are times when our city's defenders cannot be everywhere at every time. Moreover, I find myself itching for chances to get out of the city, and for that something to keep me safe during travel would be wanted.

After hearing some of Mother Bianca's adventures and the dangers involved while serving the Compact, I decided I could not wait. If I want to take advantage of what my patron can offer, I need to be willing to put myself out there and take a risk.

This week, Mistress Josephine was kind enough to help with that decision, and I will be sure to put the armor she has helped me assemble to good use. She has my thanks, and as does House Bisland and all those that helped fund her efforts, and I wish them penned here for prosperity.

And if this entry is a bit wordy and long? Well, I'm certain you will all read this and understand that the weight of the new armor is considerably, and my apartment has quite a view from its high floor... and I do not at all look forward to those stairs with this weight.

On the topic of best beards...

It was decided some months ago that Lord Geralt Crovane, Sword of Stormwall has the best beard in the city. This was voted on by a committee of interested observers at the Beards and Brew sponsored by House Redrain at the Spirits.

If the results are questioned there will be a beard and brew once the Lodge has been deemed secure. If you feel your beard is better than the rest. Put your face rug to the test. Come and display your finely groomed jaw.

But the Duke oils it with the blood of his enemies! That's how he keeps it so sleek and smooth and magnificent.

What does your daily beard grooming regime entail? And if not Duke Vercyn then who has the best beard of beards (currently residing in the city)? If you contest my claim, you must have another in mind. Your own? (It is a good one. I'm not trying to disparage your tremendous beard but you have stiff competition).

If only there were some way to settle this that would involve you taking off your shirt, Lord Brogan.

Well.

It has been a TIME! I mean, it's always a time. Time progresses, and that's the way of it. But it has been adventurous time! I went on an expedition (at last!) with my very good business partner, Mayir, and we actually ended up with a fairly decent set of takeaways from it - sometimes despite my best efforts. Don't judge! I'm just not very much a SEAFARER, really. And being inside of a great, spooky ship was very exciting, but also very wet and very full of sand. Sand is the enemy!

Anyway. We did bring back some nice pieces. And then I promptly got rather ill, and laid in my bed for a while bemoaning my fate. But once that was done, I went back to restoring and looking in my old stock for some materials, and finally, three more pieces are available at the shop! At least three - I might be able to get a couple more all ship shape (ha! See what I did there??) before the end of the day. I feel energetic! Productive! Profitable!

So, remember Storied Treasures, near the Blackrose Theatre for all of your occasional antique needs.

I am not a Minister, certainly not of coin. Looking at my bank account, the tellers have been giving me despairing looks. I might have depleted all of my funds paying off people in the various bits of research I've been working on over the last year to help with the coming battle to come with the Lodge. Money well spent, and I am starting to grow it back to full capacity by saving the allowance I am given and trading favors for silver. In time, I shall be able to grow it back to the small fortune that was there, assuming there are no other crises to look into that require my attention.

In the meantime, I spend bits here and there - smaller bits than looking for those answers for the Lodge - to travel, and see the world once more. I really ought to write a book about my recent mountain adventure; a report for the Explorers at the very least, since it also involved a bit about Brass, and there are two more trips involved - the very least - that stem from our exploration efforts.

In the Dead Crows we each had our personal philosophies.

We came from all walks of life and we did our best to respect it.

But as mercenaries, we held to one singular Law:

"That which is taken by the sword can only be recovered by it."

A simpler view of things. Though I'm not here to say it's the right way, but it has always been my way. And I think I want it recorded.

Maybe in the future someone wiser and sharper than us will make sense of how soldiers become this way. Never found an answer I liked completely.

A lot of people have listened to me lately. Listened and comforted, listened and distracted, or listened and advised.

The common thread is that they listened.

I really appreciated it, all of you.

It's been over a year since I lost my last son. That nasty war on the water. Nothing good ever came from the water I told them. The sea will take you from me and I will not forgive it for that. So I've spent nearly every lick of coin I have these last two months, as I see these young men and women gearing up to defend the lodge against these Shav's. I was breaking even at least, the metals for weapons and the leathers. But I was walking through the market and I saw two common boys - I say boys but in truth most everyone is far younger compared to me, but I digress. They were trying on their leathers that they had dug up from chests. Would barely protect a mouse much less a strapping lad. And so I sent Demetria to the bank. Told her to empty it clean. A noble may have a house to draw upon but there are some boys and girls from the lowers and the uppers who will be striding off to war and I'll spare their mothers and fathers as best I can, the letter written to tell them of their child's demise. For no child should pass before their mother, even if defense of our compact.

Helps toot hat Bisland threw a little coin in to bolster the pot some. Now too see who comes a calling.

Sometimes I'm tempted to climb up into the bell tower and yell, to shout to Arx just how amazing and talented Josie is. She never ceases to amaze me with her work, how intricate it is, how beautiful. Each piece truly is a work of art, and I think it would be a nice thing, someday, for there to be a gallery just for her. For all her work to be displayed for the world to see. Generation after generation. She would deserve it, the world's best jeweler.

No, Scholar, I'm not biased -at all-.

I dont find a need a new title to express my Ministry positions. I think the account balances in the bank speak for themselves as does the fact that I have not heard of anyone being swallowed by a pothole recently.
