Customs of Arvani people are all at once strange and yet familiar. I have traveled far across an uncrossable ocean, never to return and learned that these people from a far away land are all so similar to the ones I left behind, and yet all at once so different and strange. I do not know how long it will be taking me to truly understand these people, but I am hoping that until then that I make a good impression.

At last I am feeling well again. It has been some time since I had energy to spare for anything but duty, and I look forward to revelling in revels once more.

I am working diligently to learn not just one but two new languages! New to me, of course. I'm sure they don't feel new to those who already speak them. It certainly makes me feel less provincial to be expanding my linguistic skills. Less provincial and more an adventurer! I owe immense thanks to Sir Corban and Lord Mirk for helping me with this... and for their patience as I butcher the proper accent in my practice attempts. May the gods bless the patient people and the teachers among us.

I realize there's something about aging and commenting on the craftmanship of furniture, but I have to admit, there's nothing quite like finally having a room the way you want it after getting a matching chest and wardrobe. I don't know why that appeals to me.

And organizing. I found a full suit of armor in a wardrobe the other day and I have no idea why or who put it there.

And someone put liquor bottles in my bookcase. I say someone, but I have the uncanny sensation it was me. Because some reason I thought it'd look good. I still have no idea why.

Relationship Note on Luca

There are few honors as great as when what you love to do is not only liked, but mentioned in the whites for as much. I am both so happy and humbled almost beyond words. Almost because clearly, this is all full of words. The apprentices who often man the counter while I work have some new instructions, though no few of them tend to swoon and get starry-eyed when you visit; hopefully they'll manage to remember despite that.

I've gotten several amazing gifts. I was very surprised cause I barely paid attention to that whole gift giving thing. I was busy digging a trench. One bloody big trench. It took days, but it's one damn fine piece of hard labor.

Anyway, what I meant to say was; I love all the gifts, but don't do it again. You know who you are.

I did several very responsible things this week, which I believe should be documented here for posterity.

1. I spent a good deal of time working on decorating the new house. It's not nearly ready for entertaining guests, but it is getting there.

2. I managed to spend much of my savings on a few pieces of jewelry, which actually is irresponsible cross this off.

3. I got in touch with a few people regarding some projects I wish to undertake as a Grayson Minister.

4. I was especially attentive to Queen Symonesse. My only fault as a lady in waiting is I'm not very skilled at helping her style her hair. What with the spiders.

Relationship Note on Ida

I spent a good part of this morning going through and seeing to the cleaning of my blade collection. Well. Giuseppe helped. Or maybe he did most of the work and I drank. But I /was/ there for it. And awake.

Anyway, my point is, I noticed I now own eleven pieces of Dame Ida Ferron's fine craftsmanship. Not that I am complaining. They look beautiful, and they're more than just easy on the eyes, too. I should know. I'm nearly considering getting a separate display case for her work. To paw through it would be a journey of white dragon hilts spewing forth flames down blades, regal griffins washed in sunset copper, a weapon that evokes the wings of ravens against silver moonlight, breeze-blown autumn foliage and glistening sunshine on winter pines between two different longswords. That's less than half of them!

..maybe I'll have Giuseppe commission a second display case.

I have instructed Possum to see that this journal goes out with the local courier when they make their journey to Arx. I have also informed the Marquis that the courier only makes this trip weekly, so he should pen his entry now, rather than later. We may not be here a week from now. For posterity, as I write (and say what I am writing aloud because I want him to know), the Marquis waved his hand at me and informed me he, 'has people to talk to about a party.'

Yes, well, I'm keeping the berries.

All of that aside, I am quite glad Alessia chose to join us. Her hunch about this place wasn't far wrong. Something is definitely amiss. The Marquis and I are here to represent the Relief Group, but after some preliminary investigation and research, I begin to wonder if perhaps we should leave with the courier and pay a visit to the House of Questions. I may just be jumping at shadows, but as the most beautiful person here, I must say that I like my face exactly where it is and exactly how it is. Even so, I have the sense that before long we will be making the climb up the hill to the manor house.

I've fallen into such a torpor as of late. Tired all the time. No inspiration for painting. I've neglected those who care for me the most, the people who fill my life with steadfast and limitless love.

So my birthday party was pretty fun. Not many people showed up to joust, so had a wrestling tournament instead. That went pretty well! I wonder what I should do for my party next year.

Today was a humbling day, and shows me that I have spent far too much time with the paperwork and not enough out on the field.

First I was outridden and out-finessed by a couple of talented jousters in the form of Sir Thorley Sandreef and Lord Fecundo Rubino for Lord Cristoph's Jousting Tourney.

And then, just in case I needed a further reminder to spend more time in the field I was bested again by Lord Fecundo for Grandmaster Caspian's birthday celebrations, before having that smug show-off Lord Brogan put me in my place rather adroitly on the wrestling field.

All in all it was a fun day, but a good reminder that one can never rest on their laurels when it comes to matters martial.

I am Nijah. I have been told that writing in the white journals is good practice for my Arvani writing, and that it is custom to record thoughts to the journals. I am told this is to honor the gods and keep records. I do not know much of Arvani gods, but am eager to learn.

The scribe is telling me I am taking too long but I must write this myself.

Second day in Arx, still much to learn. Must find tailor, need local clothes. Found bar with good drink and food and meeting a lot of good people.

All this writing is tiring. Will practice more later.
