Relationship Note on Gianna

I'm sorry it was such a short tour! But that instrument -- the chittarone, did you say it was called? -- sounded lovely! I think it's probably lovelier with more instruments, because it makes such deep notes, but it's still quite lovely.

I've spoken with Lady Iseulet about the Empyrean potentially providing services for the destruction of the Shrine and the festival around it, so she might get in touch with you! And I'm so happy that the Whisper House and the Empyrean are working together, given that you told me those instruments were donated by Lumen Whisper. Clearly, people needn't worry about any cutthroat rivalries between the two organizations.

What a nice messere, with interesting thoughts that are so very wise.

I'm surprised a soldier has such wisdom that isn't related to the battlefield; however, I suppose life is a battlefield, too.

Relationship Note on Sasha

I have another protege to announce and that would be the Marquessa-Consort Sasha Sanna. We have long known each other and when she married Marquis Cirroch Sanna it was a happy surprise to me in Whitehold. Now that we are both in the city our company together is as good as ever and so I extend my patronage to a longtime companion and vassal. I expect great things from her and given the track record of my other protege you should all expect the same.

Thank you for honoring me with your trust Marquessa, we shall see you prosperous and happy.

Relationship Note on Lianne

My first impression of my new Marquessa and sister-by-vows was that she was a woman of formidable intelligence, ingenuity, and a particular sort of empathy removed from mawkishness that’s all too rare in this world. This impression keeps being proven correct, in ways that surprise me and make me feel rather foolish for being surprised. There is much we’ve yet to figure out, about our lands and of each other, but she gives me confidence we’ll find something worthy in it all.

It was recently my birthday. Not a crazy deal, since a lot of people are busy. Still it would be nice to do something interesting for it. Perhaps I'll treat my own self to a nice meal.

I recently uncovered something that has set my heart to racing. I am filled with such excitement and joy, and yet a part of me knows I should guard it well. There is that push and pull, excitement and fear. I will simply enjoy this, even as Kael and I prepare to ride for Oakhaven. It is time for those of Oakhaven and Keaton Keep to meet the next generation of Keatons. Talis, despite his early arrival is strong and putting on weight. He's not as chubby as his brother was, though I think he may be taller, and that is why. My sons will be as big as their father someday, that much is plain. I am really hoping that next time we have a daughter. And Kael and I have come across the perfect name.

What was that scholar? Oh! No! Nooooo! No, I am most definitely *not* pregnant again! Despite evidence to the contrary I am a Countess-Consort, not a brood mare!

An open note to the uninvited guests who spent some time in Domus Igniseri this past evening:

Keelhauling is an ancient form of punishment meted out at sea when other forms of punishment were inconvenient. Though not unique to any of Arvum's seafaring cultures, I've read that it was Lycene sailors (or Lycene pirates, depending on the writer) who really perfected the art, by adding pulleys to the sides of the ship so as to make the victim's trip as smooth and easy for everyone as possible. Well, except for the person being keelhauled. See, we tie you to a rope and we hang lead bars from your feet, then toss you over the side. Using a rigging we then pull you under the ship and up the other side, where you're given a moment to breathe and recover your senses and then we do it again. While down there you may crack your head on the hull or your back (or front, if you thrash too much) may be sliced open on the barnacles that tend to set up their homes on the keels of a ship. You may even feel like you're about to drown and panic, but no worries, we get you back up and will pump the water out of your lungs before we throw you back in.

Now some sailors, they'll do this port to starboard. A trip under the ship the easy way. Three times. Three times to leave you a shivering, panicky, almost certainly maimed wreck. Pirates in the Lyceum, though? They do it bow to stern. And they only do it twice, because a third time is never needed.

Anyway, I thought you might enjoy these fun and interesting facts I've picked up in my life as a sailor!

Hope you enjoyed stealing our shit, you sons of bitches.

Love,

Ariella Igniseri

Relationship Note on Audric

You know that duels are supposed to be for minor disputes, and that Champions are supposed to be for duels, so a duel over someone not using a Champion would ... be a minor dispute ideal for Champions? The only thing weird about this is that a lot of people are reacting to it for some reason. I assume it has something to do with Audric's talent for being provoking to people.

Happily, I have yet to receive any of his mail over it, so it seems if anyone really is incensed with Audric, they're at least incensed with Audric enough to spell his name correctly.

I, too, have a Silas original from back in the day: a stunning dragon themed chest that is a showpiece of my shop. As valuable as my actually-commissioned painting by Master Fortunato. I feel pretty blessed to have such amazing pieces, along with the first pair of earrings Guildmaster Joscelin gifted me with. They are little bits of history that recall to mind mayhap simpler times, or what we thought were, and I treasure them immeasurably.

High Lord Valardin and Thrax are right, of course. You can hire anyone you wish, and anyone can accept.

You really shouldn't, though, and I will say this every time it needs to be said. Read back through my Whites if you must, I've laid this all out before.

I've called for Champions, let's be done with it until Baron de Lire responds to the challenge.

Okay, trying to wrap my head around the most recent influx of anger.

Somebody picked their champion, but it wasn't from the champion's guild? I dunno, didn't seem like the duel was being fought over that serious of a matter, and it's not like anyone is representing themselves for a serious duel in the first place.

Eh, what do I know. I'm too sober right now to make intelligent comment.

On challenges.

I am a big believer in the Champion's Guild the fill a great service and do so upholding the highest standards of honor. You really should be using them.

That said, Duels have existed long before there was a Champion's Guild. It rose out of filling a need for many that were not fighters themselves to answer to challenges more easily. There may be someone you wish to represent you for a variety of reasons. You may wish to represent yourself. Now you really shouldn't, especially if it is over a relatively trial matter of pride, but if that is what you think your honor demands it is your right.

Basically we all have the inalienable right to make I'll advised decisions.

Let us not judge Baron de Lire too harshly for the misstep that he has made. He is yet new to his place in the peerage and likely paid little attention to matters of etiquette that we "Silks" engaged in prior to the acquisition of his title.

The first wave of new instruments have arrived at the College. The harp, the chitarrone, and the clavichord are now set up and placed where I want them. At least until work restoring the mosaic on the floor is finished, anyway, but that will take some time. All three are properly tuned. I wonder if it would have been smarter to wait until after the mosaic was finished to move them in. Archlector Wylla stopped by for her promised tour and approved of the place.

My guide to musical instruments has been submitted to the Academy and is now among the Cultural collection. The second copy is housed on the bookcase where the College will keep its music collection. The display cases for the instruments are slowly filling. A massive table has been installed.

Seeing everything coming together is greatly satisfying.

I'm oddly curious if anyone would help me...

I have protégés... but, I'm certain it would be quite useful to have a patron to assist my education in social graces now that I'm a Duke of Rubino...

I could certainly use the benefit of a patron, even for the short term...

-- I thought to write this here as a reminder for myself.

Greetings good people,

I've recently returned from my trip south, I'm looking to see if anyone would have any interest in historical architecture. It'll likely be a long term project and there may be some travel associated if details aren't discovered easily from the archives. If anyone has spare time in the coming weeks to aid me, I would be grateful for the help. I can compensate for time as well, certainly, if that is an issue.
