I came home tonight to a message from Prince Niklas about my Asharion playing 'Alarice and A'kioh' with one of his cousins, and some hurt feelings happening. I quite remember that game myself. Meanwhile, my oldest son, Tiber was in the library reading books with my ward Aniyah.

There is surely one good thing about winter in the city as opposed to out in the wilds - it's certainly easier to make acquaintances about fires at the taverns in the city than it is huddled about one in the forest, and far more faces to be found about them as well.

Recently on a journey to Estroch I discovered two things:
One: The shoals to the east are absolutely stunning.
Two: Said shoals are inhabited by sharks that view me as little more than a snack.
If not for Lady Neilda tackling one of the creatures and the archery tricks taught to me by Princess Ophelia I might not have escaped.
Its a shame we couldn't bring some shark skins back. They really were rather handsome.

Eight months, goodness time has gone by far more quickly then I had thought, and the babies are both so much older, and bigger. It has been a true joy watching them each grow, and their little personalities starting to emerge and develop. If there is one thing I hope for, it is that they will share our love for animals and the land. But really I only pray for them to have happy lives, that are filled with wonder, and good things for them.

It's been another incredibly busy week. I've spent most of my day talking to someone about purchasing a large amount of anchors. It might not seem like like anything to most people, I guess. But I was entertained! I mean, I suppose other people who care about anchors would appreciate it.

I am given at times to musing over quite esoteric matters in flowery and nuanced way. Such is the life of a priest, where we dance with the divine in all those small places their light penetrates, each facet of our lives.
That said, nobles and marriage and its nature seems straight forward to me. It is duty. That is its only core and essential nature. It is the debt owed to your people, the stability you owe them through alliances and stable and trained heirs. If it can be more, then I have no quarrel and will rejoice happily in your joy.

What is it about the winter that fills me with such a sense of... what even is the right word?
Infinitesimal.
Not as much here in the city... but something about the blanket of snow that covers the ground, the trees, the roofs against the night sky. Yes, it is an eventide feeling overall. The vast night bordering the vast white. Stars break up the darkness while people and objects dot the white with color. It is like one is a reflection of the other. Now that's a ponder, isn't it?
In it all, I feel small, almost inconsequential. Some days, when I walk alone, the feeling settles into my bones like the sharp cut of the cold that a Northern winter consists of. At other times, when I am not alone, I find the company of those I love as friends and family to be like a fire to warm me, offering me comfort, and I feel more present... less like I will be swallowed whole by the very environment around me.
Forgive me... my words a ramble of thought, it seems. However... I do look forward to Spring.

You will never be prepared for everything. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try to prepare as best you can for the challenges you will face, but inevitably something will happen that you didn't foresee, that there was no way to prepare for. Surprises are as much a part of life as breathing, and they will not always be pleasant. In fact, more often than not, they will be unpleasant to some degree. That is the nature of life, to challenge you. The sort of person you are will be measured by how you meet those challenges, how you handle those unpleasant surprises. People around you, both those you lead and your allies alike, will look to you when these situations arise. Some will simply be judging you, weighing you, while others will seek an example to follow as they must rise to the same sort of challenges. The key to disappointing as few of them as possible, I've found, is to not concern yourself with what they think. As you approach the situation, you should only be thinking of what is best for your people, your family, and yourself. Taking advice from trusted advisors is one thing, but ultimately the responsibility will be yours. You will be the one to answer for how those challenges are handled, for good or ill. So you must be sure that you can live with the consequences, and being surprised will be no acceptable excuse. So it is important to never begin accepting it from yourself.

Baron Rodrigue has a powerful son. I remember when Ipsilonne was small. Perhaps that is ill-fitting language. Even as a baby, Ipsilonne was a large, robust specimen. He has only become larger and more vital with every passing year. Truly, such successes, the culmination of a lifetime of achievement, are worth celebration. Jourdain held his own despite Ipsilonne's physical advantages, so I hope both gained from their spar.

There are others that did the work -
to make this arrangement a success.
The High Lord who guides you,

This is payment for the socially protected life of you,

The marriage will be solemnized,
created in an air of joy and bliss.
Cementing a relationship between two families,
strengthening of new ties by marriage established.
In the High Lord, there is experience and knowledge,
it is with her and who she negotiates to know better.
She will know what is best or bad,
for their beloved cousin and author.
In love, marriage is the victory,
in the arranged, the spouse is the gift.
If there is no interference in their decision,
freedom of choice is forfeit.
You are in a room with no doors and a sealed roof,
you cannot escape for the freedom of the air.
Love tries to flow like water in the river,
without both banks, it will scatter.
Love that grows between two is
sometimes immature and driven by emotion,
