I have had an incredibly busy few months away from the city, industrious even, as I settle into my position as Minister of Population for House Blackshore. I am indescribably thrilled that Baroness Skye saw enough merit within me to bestow the honour of the appointment, and I am eager to present to her my ideas, thoughts and observations which I have now compiled from those months in New Hope. Quite serendipitously I made the acquaintence of Lady Mabelle Laurent yesterday evening whilst working in the Great Archive, and she has offered me the benefit of her experience and wisdom in her own capacity as a Minister of Population. It will be good to discuss ideas with someone that has trod my path ahead of me.

Despite the ache and leaving New Hope, I am pleased to return to Arx as I found myself missing the city more than I imagined I might. I feel that I can finally look forward to the coming days and months with renewed anticipation.

I had the most interesting evening. And of course I won, but I think we both won, really.

I managed to make myself leave the warmth of the Hall today to visit the Dire Bee Lounge and I have to say it was absolutely charming. I had hot chocolate with a shot of apple honey whiskey in it, and I'll have to visit again soon to try some of the entrees. And then sweettalk someone into rolling me back to the Ward, I imagine.

I have passed by the window of the Dire Bee Lounge and saw people inside, sitting and eating.
I am so pleased people have access to all that Artshall has to offer.
I'm proud.

It is so good to be in the City! I do not normally write with such exuberance but it is called for when I have come to home to the people I love the most. I never forgot how much I loved them, but I was different then. Stuck in a sadness that pulled me into black tar depths of muck and stickiness which I could not escape. But now I realize that I must come home for my son's sake, and my own too. He needs his family just as much as I do.

Baroness Ember has welcomed me with open arms and I have had the good fortune to bump into my brother, Lord Dariel! It has been ages since I've seen him properly and he is all grown up now. So handsome and well, I think he was glad to see me. I've made new acquaintances, such as Lady Thea and Lady Eirene Malvici, who invited me to go on a pub crawl and watch some sort of bull festivities which I am foggy about.

Marquis Oskar Eswynd has agreed to be my patron and I am quite looking forward to our endeavours together, as well as projects that I might be of assistance with in regards to Marquessa Quenia Igniseri. Already just barely in the City and already so full of promise. I think I am beginning to like the winter, strangely enough.

I'm starting to think Stormbird was right- the Murder couch -is- a throne worth of the Queen of Endings. Life, death, birth ... it's seen it all. I don't feel sorry for it anymore.

Relationship Note on Margerie

I cannot imagine there ever was any doubt, but the Baroness Margerie Clement's offer to would-be students of the fine arts of diplomacy was not only genuine, but very much worth it. Better yet, continued mentoring instead of the off lesson given quickly means the experience is all the more worth it.

Vengeance is not the fruit of justice, it stems from the tree of hate and anger that seeks to perpetuate pain and suffering among others no matter the cost. The Sentinel requires justice, and justice is measured when it arrives.

Revenge assumes what justice is, while justice doesn't assume that revenge is the answer.

If your head is to burst, your heart explode with terror, and the bones beneath the flesh of your shoulders creak from the weight - that is when you rely on those whose only wish is to see you well and help you travel through whatever darkness might threaten to snuff out your light.

As put forth by your cousin, you are not alone and you have those who will not ever let you forget it.

That is far better than I can do! I once sent Bard Itzal a poem and he died.

Well, not from the poem. It just so happened I did send him a poem and now he is dead.

While I am gifted with many creative talents, poetry has never been among them!

I find your poem quite lovely!

Last night, at Thrall's Lament, I and a number of my peers acted to stop a dust smuggler from moving his narcotics through the Thrax Ward.

I do not know who in the City reads my whites. I can only imagine that whoever worked with the wretch that was captured may have heard who was responsible for his apprehension. If that hunch is correct, and you reading this are part of that chain, then I say to you directly:

Congratulations. You have earned the attention of the Bloody Baroness. Ensure that your children's last memories of you are fond ones.

Ambition is a dangerous thing to keep.

Harness it and you might grow beyond the wildest measures.

Feed it recklessly and it will still be yearning, taking until you have nothing left to give.

Hunger is a mark of greatness, but in using it to achieve lofty and unthinkable heights, it invariably becomes one's downfall.

Ambition and Hunger are like fire: sublime in its power and voracity. Some are too afraid to touch it, for the flame hurts and warns them of what will be. Others embrace it fully, unable to choose any other life, willing to die for their heart's desire.

In the end, we cannot change our stripes and she who is hungry burns brighter, and harder.

I think everyone knows that I am horrid at the arts. I cannot sing, barely can dance, and definitely cannot poetry. However, here is mine because I love Limerance enough. Please forgive me.

But each is equally measured

Dear cousin, I think we both know that answer is "a lot." The mind is a highly adaptable thing, shaping as it may for a situation. Be strong, as I know you are, and remember you are not alone.
